OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 Xen Bridged Networking - Setup Multiple DomU Through The Default Bridge Setup

Feb 4, 2010

Im trying to setup multiple domU through the default bridge setup. I am able to access only one of them through the network at a time. If you ping one of the domU it works perfectly but you cannot ping any of the others until you stop pinging the one and even then it takes a bit before you can. Ive looked around for a while and seen similar problems but nothing ever seems quite the same. Im probably missing something really stupid. Or is this the way the bridge is supposed to behave? Do i need to use a routed virtual network?

OpenSUSE Network :: Setup Bridged Networking On 11.4 With Xen

Aug 20, 2011

Newbie Question: How do I setup networking on openSuSE 11.4 on an HP Proliant DL385 G7 with 4 NICs to host Windows 2008 R2 on Xen? I've installed openSuSE 11.4 with all the patches (and most of the server patterns - Mail and News, LAMP, LDAP, Samba, etc.), and I've installed Windows 2008 R2 in a Xen virtual machine. I'm having problems configuring the 4 NICs eth0, eth1, eth2, eth3 are "bound" without an ip_address as br0

eth0 connects to my ISP - currently through a private LAN - It connects directly to the router with static IP 192.168.0.105 Eventually, one of the other NICs will serve ip_addresses via DHCP to a separate LAN (for use in an office setting), and eth0 will be set with a static IP from the ISP That means, eth0 will be static to the ISP, and the other NICs will attach to a switch serving private ip_addresses in the 192.168.0.xxx range.

Currently, I have br0 unconfigured and eth0 static. I have configured eth0 in the External Zone and br0 in the Internal Zone in the firewall, and all the correct ports are opened (afaik) I have enabled masquerading. Hostname, Domain (workgroup), DNS Server addresses and IPv4 Gateway are configured.

Windows 2008 R2 (Guest VM in Xen) "sees" the other machines on the network, and "browses" the internet, although it will not download patches except intermittently. I have not tried connecting to it from the LAN Eventually, I wish to run Windows Terminal Server. openSuSE cannot "browse" the internet, though it initially did. What am I missing? I "think" I need routing or NAT, or I may have my bridge setup incorrectly, although I've tried almost every combination. Google says Xen should be setup with either NAT or a Bridged Network.

Output of ifconfig:
br0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 3C:4A:92:76:B8:F2
inet6 addr: fe80::3e4a:92ff:fe76:b8f2/64 Scope:Link

I set the modem back to PPPoE the problem was with the DNS server of the ISP so using ifup i set the dns t 8.8.8.8 (google) the connection is back , but when i set the modem back as a bridge slow internet does the router know that my dns is 8.8.8.8 or i should set the dns on the router ? I can't see an option to set the dns on the router ( i just enter my username and password from the isp to use PPPoE mode ) by the way i called the isp support they kept telling me to restart , i told them i did but i never restarted my pc . I'm sure if i tell them i'm running linux they will blame the os !

Is there some file or setting I can modify in Fedora10 that will always choose 192.168.1.1 on eth0 as the default gateway?

Networking :: Two Nics Setup With No Bridging But Still Seem To Bridge?

Jun 29, 2010

I'm trying to setup a Centos box to act as a backup server for our intranet between stores. I have two interfaces in it, the first one is currently connected to my local network and is using dhcp to get its ip address and such, the second one is set to a static ip address and is connected to an independent network that just has a DigiBoard Portserver hooked to it and no connection to the regular network. What I am doing is using ssh to portforward the telnet port on this box to the main server so when you telnet into the box from the second interface using the portserver you get connected to the main server.

I plan on using this over DSL lines as a backup when our main dervice goes out to allow the portservers at the remote locations to seemlessly connect to the main server by just moving the network cable from the local net to the backup server. My problem is that when I have the everything working I am able to ping the second interface ip address from the normal network even though the secondary card does not in anyway externally connect to the network, this is a problem.

Eventually I want to duplicate the main server address so that the normal portservers and other terminals on the remote site will not have to be reconfigured to access the backup server. All I want is to be able to tell the managers is to switch a cable while the main connection is down and not have to manage a bunch of config files to get the store back up. Right now if I duplicate the main server ip address and it is accessible through the first interface I'm guessing I'll see all kinds of problems relating to duplicate ip addresses on the network. I've tried some routing and iptable stuff but I'm not real familiar with either so I had no luck. Is there someway to block the internal connection between the two interfaces so the only thing that sees the duplicate ip address is the second interface?

Server :: VPN Setup With Bridged Tap Interface

Aug 12, 2011

I need some advice on setting up VPN. The situation is as follows:
Server => Centos 5.5
Clients => Fedora, Ubuntu, Win XP, Win 7 (and possibly mac)
The flow could be as follows
Code:
Client=>10.x.x.x=========>10.x.x.1<=VPN Server=>192.168.x.1<=========192.168.x.x<=Server in LAN

A bit of explanation of the above. I would like to allow any client (be it any Linux version or Windows), to connect to the VPN server, obtain an IP Address and then function as if it is in the LAN and be able to access all the servers in the LAN. So the connection between an external client and the VPN server will be through the 10.x.x.x ip range and the server and the internal machines will be through the range 192.168.x.x. After going through the internet, I have decided to deploy OpenVPN client/server, with bridged tap interface in the server and the client.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Multiple NIC - How To Setup VMware Servers

Apr 15, 2009

So I have a pretty big networking nightmare on my hands right now. Stepped into the dog crap with this one, told my employer that I knew how to setup vmware servers right? Its not hard, install CentOS, install vmware, run the config tool, bridge the network, down the road we all go right? We have 3 servers running about 10 virtual servers.

Here is what we have all together.
CFU <- This is the internet. We have IP ranges xx.18.230 - xx.18.241 Gateway is xx.18.254 and subnet is xx.255.128
DELL PowerConnect 3348 Switch <- This is what everything is pretty much jammed into.
VMH1 <- This machine has 2 NICs
eth0 connects to the DELL switch somewhere on the upper 30+ ports
eth1 connects to the DELL switch on port 1.

It uses firestarter and is the gateway for our internal internet on 192.168.11.XX using IP 11.254. It has 4 vm's on it. One of them is the domain controller, hooked to eth1 using IP xx.11.1. The other one is a server for managing remote backups, it has an external IP linked to eth0 of xx.18.234. The other 2 vm's are for misc remote login stations that use internal ip addresses linked to eth1. It hasn't had a single problem communicating on either one of the ports..

VMH2 <- This server hosts a web server, and some other misc stations.
It hosts a web server on xx.18.230 and xx.18.231
It also hosts 2 workstations on a seperate network, through another router that is wireless....

Now, we have the problem child, VMH3
VMH3 <- This hosts...nothing. It sits and has a ton of storage, but does absolutely nothing, but won't communicate out either one of its network ports.
The xx.36.xx and xx.22.xx networks are there because we have multiple businesses in the building that shouldn't see each other.

OpenSUSE :: Gnome Bug - Allow Access To Default Keyring Setup

Feb 7, 2009

I have never configured any keyrings. I set up Evolution, and it's working, but sometimes Gnome wants me to allow it to access the default keyring to get the email password. It takes 3 cancel-deny tries to finally dismiss this dialog box, after which Evolution is working fine. I see that this is not an Evolution thing. Other users report the same thing in VINO, and on wireless access. The GNOME forum seems to think there is a bug when accessing severs, and has a bug and milestone. Some other distros have the same problem.

One user says that they were able to Delete the default keyring (which must have had an unknown default password) and then create a New default keyring with thier own password. This seems to have solved that user's problem. However there were no instructions on how to do it. I think someone else was able to just stop the default keyring daemon. That would work too, although it's not as elegant. I'm now unable to find instructions.

Now I would like to install Debian in my main laptop, but I think it won't be able to connect to any wireless networks during setup and before installing firmware-brcm80211 and wireless-tools (its wireless card is a Broadcom 43224AG). That being, and to avoid connecting the computer directly to the router (it is not easy), I would like to bridge the EeePc's wireless connection to my laptop using a cable. I tried using the instructions found at the Debian Wiki, but I couldn't set it up properly.
