I was wondering if anyone knew how to decode an iTunes video in Linux. So far nothing I have found will but I've heard there are ways to do this. I'm just looking to see if anyone can point me in right direction.
View 13 RepliesDoes gzip have the capability to decode gzipped traffic? I have been beating my head against the wall with this issue. What I'm trying to do is capture traffic between a web server and clients, and I've got it set up where it's redirected to a file for ease of grepping, however it's seemingly incapable of decoding gzipped encoding. I know I can do this with tshark, I'm curious as to whether tcpdump has this capability (i.e. only using tcpdump, and not some additional tool like tcpshow or what-not).
I can't find much on this issue in the man page for tcpdump, but it is fairly lengthy, so it's possible that I missed something, but I don't see that as especially likely.
I attempted this afternoon to do something I believe I did in the past using tshark, to no avail.

sudo tshark -V > dumpfile
That is the code, and from what I recall of times since past when this was done, gzipped packets were subsequently decoded under a section "Uncompressed Entity Body". However, today, nothing was decoded. I can grep the output and see that the gzipped traffic is being identified, but the subsequent decoding of it isn't there.
Might anyone have a solution that I am unaware of? As I said, I am almost certain I have done this in the past. The fact that it doesn't work now is very confusing to me.
If the specifics are of interest, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10, and the traffic I was looking to decode involved the html content of Google search results. Specifically, the gzipped encoding should be able to be processed with tshark to output html with tshark's -V switch.

I'm currently using Rhythmbox. I have tried Exaile and Amarok just doesn't work for me. I can't recall what made me turn away from Banshee, too. I'm not really into Wine so installing iTunes itself is not viable.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got a new iphone (yay me) but later realised that as I have Ubuntu, it is very difficult to get itunes installed on it.
Having said that, I've got Wine installed and attempted to download itunes 7.something and even though the whole process worked, it appears that when I try to access itunes the whole screen goes black and then if I scroll across the screen with my mouse it lights up various bits of what's behind the black screen and then after a while it tells me that it cannot access itunes at all...
So I thought, perhaps I should uninstall itunes, but in doing that it still appeared in my wine folder, so I uninstalled wine, which still appeared in my Applications list, so I edited my applications list and then tried to re-install wine from scratch (I know I sound dumb already - but I was desperate ok!!!). So now wine is installed on my computer somewhere but it now doesn't show up in my Applications list at all and I can't seem to get it back on there - any suggestions there would also help...
But my main objective is to try and uninstall itunes properly (maybe from the terminal window - but I don't know how to even do that) and attempt to re-install it to see if it works again.
I need to do this in order to sync my iphone. Cannot seem to do it with Amarok as I don't have Installer.Apps on my iphone, and cannot get THAT without syncing it with itunes to begin with....

My curiosity has been aroused by a local AP that is not transmitting an ESSID. It also is neither transmitting beacon frames nor data.
The channel shows a negative one, as does the power. Facts:
1. I know this AP is nearby because, before they hid the ESSID, the power output was fairly high.
2. Airodump-ng shows -1 channel, -1 power, and a hidden ESSID, although the BSSID is visible. Neither the channel nor the encryption scheme are being transmitted.
3. Neither beacons nor data are being sent. I can determine the correct name of the ESSID from the probe field in airodump-ng
but that is all.
4. All attempts in aireplay-ng to dissociate the client fail with the message that "No such BSSID" is found!?
5. Kismet, on the other hand, does not even see the AP.
6. Loading the .cap file in Wireshark reveals no information about those packets for which the source, or dest, is the AP.
How can I get a list of what X video drivers are on my system? Preferably not using a package manager (since I'm not sure I trust it to not miss stuff like the nvidia driver). Googling didn't give anything useful .

I have made numerous audio CD's with Brasero, but recently I had to make one and mid way through the burning process I am given this error: Could not decode stream. Or some variation like that. It ruins the cd and after I get the error I can not eject the disc.

Problem occurred without error being set. This is a bug in Rhythmbox or GStreamer.
I'm thinking about switching from Windows to Linux when I get a new laptop. As far as I can tell, the only software I use that doesn't run on Linux or have a Linux equivalent is iTunes. Here are the tasks that I currently use iTunes for:
Syncing my iPhone a few times a week (for podcasts, keeping smart playlists up-to-date etc); Downloading podcasts; Using Home Sharing to sync purchases to another machine on my home network. Would I still be able to perform these tasks using iTunes in a Windows VM?
I have just started to have a problem with Xorg it is always using at least 30% of my CPU, and the whole system does not run smooth so if I play a video it does not run smooth, it judders, also even if I drag an icon it judders across the screen. View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my husband's laptop. He insists that I install iTunes. Wine comes with the 10.04 release. I downloaded iTunes 9.2.1.5(32x) and it appeared to install ok. It said it was successful. However, immediately upon the 'installation successful' notification, another window popped up that said, "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).
Whenever I try to open iTunes, this error message pops up. I used the WINE uninstall option for iTunes, however, the window pops up giving the option to either repair or uninstall, and when I click uninstall it appears to go through the process and even says it did - only to discover the fine print telling me that it "installed" the program sucessfully. This is very frustrating. I cannot seem to get the program to uninstall.
I found a thread that said to delete the files manually, but I don't know how to do this. I need to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it and make it work.
I imported my itunes library from my ipod. I tried using Mplayer and Banshee to play the music but no luck. Is there a plugin I'm missing for mpeg4 decoding? I also tried using Soundconverter but it's also looking for a mpeg4 decoder.

When I connect via usb I can open a file browser window and see the folders on the iPhone but not the files. Also the system suggests using the photo manager and banshee to view the files but when I open them I still can't see the files.
