Fedora Networking :: Networking - Connect To The Internet Using BSNL Broadband Connection
Mar 6, 2010I have installed fedora 12 recently. after installation i tried to connect to the internet using BSNL broadband connection. I filled in the details such as IP, Netmask, Gateway and even DNS servers. In the services also I ensured that the network manager services is on. However even though my computer cannot connect to the internet. I then tried the ping test of the modem from the address 192.168.1.1 and found that the ping test is successful. Then i tried the network administrator and there I noticed something unusual.
There are two options in the devices eth0 and eth1 thats ok but the unusual; thing is that the Activate (green button), Deactivate (red button) and even the delete buttons are in the background and I cannot select them. Isthis the problem for the network connectivity.

Apr 27, 2010I have just recently installed Open SUSE 11.2 from a CD I got from a Linux Magazine.Installed this fine as a dual-boot machine on my HP laptop.To access the Internet, I have normally used 2 ways:1. WIFI Connection via my home desktopUsing Netgear WG111v3 USB Adapter.2. Virgin Broadband USB Mobile Broadband stickI have no problem connecting this via my Windows Vista operating system.Somehow, under Open SUSE 11.2, this is a problem. 2. Virgin Broadband - I managed to get the Virgin Broadband icon of a mobile phone saying that it's connected and "Active" by keying in the number "*99#", username/password as blank and APN as VirginBroadband". However, when I launch Firefox browser, I couldn't get to any external Website even though the icon for the Virgin Broadband says that it's Active and connected.
So what's the problem ?1. WIFI Connectivity to Home Desktop WIFI - with this I have never never got any connection at all. It kept saying "Activating" and I have set up the connection and entered the WEP 128-bit paraphrase hex digits. I managed to scan and got the correct SSID and as I know they belong to my desktopI read somewhere that Netgear WG111v3 is not compatible with Open Suse 11.2 and will need to install the driver for this. So I did obtain the .INF file and installed ndiswrapper -i with the .inf file.. However, still not successful.I'm thinking of buying a Belkin USB Adapter which is in the list of compatible USB WIFI Adapter for Open Suse 11.2 - .. the 802.11g chipset.. as I couldn't get this to work

May 1, 2009Im able to use nm-applet just fine to setup broadband card. Its a Sprint Sierra 598u. Im running Fedora 10 KDE version. Anyone know how to get it working? i tried the setup process but all it tells me is set up GPS or CDMA so i go CDMA for mine, but then it has some default name, and no providers, as the UBUNTU version did at least...i setup best i can but then after closing configs, i go to nm-applet icon in bottom-right and it doesn't show the mobile broadband connection, also any wireless connections don't work for some reason, but DO show up. just wont connect (which i got every so often when using ubuntu on the machine, was usually a switch off or restart away from fine

On my Linux machine I am looking for some software that allows me to keep track of my broadband usage on that machine, excluding traffic between the two machines.
There are numerous such programmes for this in XP, which use Winpcap and a GUI frontend. The "other" machine on my LAN is XP and uses just such a program.
