I have Fedora11 running in my machine and it has no LAN port (RJ-45). I have a wireless PCMCIA card. The model of the wireless card is NL-2511CD EXT2(ETSI).When I insert that card to the PCMCIA slot a window pops up and ask for a WEP key. My wireless router is configured with WPA but above pop-up has no WPA option. I suspect my fedora installation does not have the necessary driver for my wireless card.I want to install that driver. I can transfer that file to the machine via thumb drive since it has no network connection yet. How do I install this? Please refer below images as I'm still a newbie at linux.

I am having trouble getting a Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller to work on openSuSE 11.3. Most of the data for the problem is in this pastebin of the output of Framp's collectNWData.sh. I have also downloaded drivers for this card as detailed below.
Code:
stephen@linux-75on:~> zypper se -r drivers:nic -i
Loading repository data...
Reading installed packages...
Also, here is the more complete output of /usr/sbin/iwlist scan:
Code:
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 beside my Windows XP on my laptop:
Dell XPS 1330
I`m now facing some problems with my new OS :
1. The driver for my wireless network card isn't recognized although I have installed the recommended driver which was in Ubuntu Hardware Driver section.
2. When I connect my laptop to my TV using HDMI port, the screen is OK but there is no sound!
3. When by any reason my network cable is unplugged, the whole network service goes down and I have to restart the system.

I have an EeePC 4g netbook which only has a 4Gb hard drive and I thought I would like to install Fedora 13 on an 8 Gb SDHC card and use it to boot the netbook.
As neither the netbook nor I have an optical drive, I made a bootable USB memory stick using Unetbootin which boots the netbook and could be used like a live CD to install Fedora.
On booting with the live USB stick, with the blank SD card in place, and clicking on the install icon, the installation starts but then there are 2 problems; the first is that the installer appears to want to install to both the SD card and also the USB stick. There is a tick in the box beside the USB stick which I can't remove.
I decided to ignore that and put a tick in the box beside the SD card but when it got to the point where it creates partitions it said "Could not find enough free space for automatic partitioning. Please use another partitioning method"
Surely 8 GB is more than enough space for partitioning, so where am I going wrong and why does it want to install on the USB stick as well?

my wireless home network is not recognized by my network card (RealTek RTL8190 mini PCI). The post was as follows: "I am using a new computer with Windows 7 , Athlon quad core 2.60 64 bit, 8GB RAM. Internet conection works fine with ethernet but ubuntu does not see my wireless network. card (RealTek RTL 8190 ID: 10ec:8190). Have searched this forum but unable to come up with a fix. I was looking for windows XP drivers to use Ndiswrapper but could not find a list of .inf files. My network is OK and works perfectly in windows and with my 2 laptops. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Additional info: install was done within Windows using WUBI to a separate partition on my HDD. I am new to this and thouroughly confused as to the procedure for installing the drivers if they are in fact available."
I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.

I have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.
I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?

Total Newb here, sorry. I am pseudo-IT at work and have set up a desktop with Debian 5 (accidentally overwrote Windows in the process, but there you go). We are set up with network printers here (all Windows), and I was wondering how to go about being able to print to one of the network printers from my Linux desktop. Can I even connect to the Windows network with this desktop (it is hooked up)? Understand, I do NOT want to screw up anything on the network - they won't let me play anymore if I do. If I download the Linux driver, what do I do next?

This would be the one thing that has always held me back from using Ubuntu as my main OS on my desktop. Now with Lucid Lynx in the picture I would really like to try again and get some answers this time around.
I have 2 GPUs in my system, a HD4870 and a HD4350. The HD4870 has a Benq 24" and a Dell 17" which are working fine in a multi-display desktop setting (No Xinerama) configured via CCC.
On the HD4350 I have a single Samsung 17" which in CCC is listed as '[Unknown Display] Unknown adapter' and cannot be used. How can I get that working properly so I can configure it as an additional screen in this setup?
Also on a side note, I have a small problem with CCC. When I installed catalyst and drivers I configured my screen resolution and multi-display desktop, but every time I reboot my resolution for both screens is set to 1280x1024 and they are cloned. Why don't my settings save?

I purchased a new Sata Card today so I can install multiple harddrives on my system, but It appears as though I am missing the drivers for the card, because it is simply not recognizing it. how to obtain drivers for these cards and install them?
Edit - Just in case you were wondering, the Sata Card is Generic, and I have no idea who the manufacturer is. It literally says 'Sata Card' on the box and has no company information, but I did buy it at a reputable business, so I have no doubt that it should work fine. It is most likely this card: Newegg.com - SYBA SD-SATA-4P PCI SATA Controller Card

There is an obscure X11 config line (busid) necessary for using more than one video card (not sure about SLI) on fedora11, ubuntu, maybe other distros as well. obscure for me until; yesterday, I mean... I tried several methods and eventually found the solution that to my dismay was already extensively documented but is seemingly hard to find.

I'm about to install a 'new' ATI Radeon video card into a Ubuntu 10.04 computer of mine (an ASUS A7VT) that has VIA onboard graphics. My question is, how will Ubuntu deal with this? Will it automatically download the required drivers or would I be better off with a fresh install after I've put the card in?

I have an eeepc 701 4gb running Ubuntu eeepc, however I have two major problems:
1) I have run out of disk space even for upgrading the operating system and essential software such as flash. There is nothing on my eeepc that I dont deem essential and no files just programs.
2) I get an error message saying my disk is being used outside of designed paramaters and may be faulty (ironically it also says my battery is faulty but it is working fine)
As such I want to buy a 16gb or 32gb SDHC card and use that as my main harddrive (cheaper than buying a new one and they are on offer atm). I know how to do this on XP but I would much rather keep Ubuntu.

Recently I've been having problems with the internet whilst using Ubuntu 10.10 (Dual booting with Windows Vista Home Premium x32). The problem is I simply can't use my internet (can't connect and the option doesn't show up). At first it said (using wireless internet by the way), firmware missing. After playing around for a bit, I managed to get a option to install my internet card driver (Broadcom).
As I try to install it says this:
Code:
SystemError: Failed to lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock This is really frustrating me as I need the internet on it.

I'm trying to install Ubuntu (or Xubuntu) on a PC that has integrated on board video. After that I want to disable the onboard video and use an NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS video card.
I tried it before, and got a lot of resolution problems.
This is what I did:
- First, I put the card in the PCI slot and modified the bios to use it as the default video, and booted from the ubuntu CD. The installation did not go through as I got no screen output (I guess ubuntu did not recognize my video card).
- Second, I restarted and modified the BIOS so that the onboard video was the default. This worked when I booted from the CD and installed, I got screen output and all. I completed the installation and turned off the computer.
- Third, I installed the card on the PCI slot but did not change the BIOS, booted and used the onboard video, downloaded the NVIDIA driver (190.53) from the NVIDIA website, installed it, and turned off the PC.
- Fourth, I modified the BIOS so that the NVIDIA video was the default, plugged the monitor to the NVIDIA VGA output, restarted, and got ubuntu working at a very low resolution of 640*320.
This is where I am stuck. I can't change the resolution to 1024*768 or 1366*768. I only get 640*320.
Is there any way to avoid all this and do a fresh installation of ubuntu 9.10 with the NVIDIA card already in and as default on the BIOS?
I am thinking the resolution problems started because I got video drivers mixed up with intel onboard during installation, then NVIDIA. I guess I should have removed the intel drivers first before installing NVIDIA drivers. If anyone agrees, how do I uninstall Intel video drivers?
If that is not the case, how do I configure the NVIDIA drivers to work properly?
My PC is an older IBM 8303 KKU at 2.26GHz, with 2GB RAM, 40GB HDD, and a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS
