View 3 Replies View Relatedafter the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?

I got an HP mini 1120NR as a gift and it runs Linux software. I am not sure which version, but I think its Edubuntu and I do not know how to actually open and install a downloaded program file from the web. A specific example is Adobe flash player. It goes into a list and asks me to open it with Archvie Manager, but after that I am lost.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs a long time Windows user, I am stuck on the basics of installing and running downloaded Linux applications. I've tried to read a few tutorials but am still baffled. I am using a Puppy based boot CD and, of course, the applications that come with the Puppy all work fine. It is when I try to add something new that I become lost. Example: I just downloaded a Linux version of the Firefox browser.
I click on the downloaded file in the Download Manager and kinda expect the thing to give me a executable set-up file, but just get a whole bunch of files. One available option is to "extract" them. I create a folder to extract them to and "extract". With Firefox I see nothing in that folder. With a few other applications, I see an extracted list of files but and try to find one file that will magically start and install or boot an application, but nothing ever happens. So, how does one download , extract, install, and then run a basic application? The references I have found on the Internet tend to be rather old or more complex that my brain can handle.
I download new versions of Firefox, extract them but don't know how to install them.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have ran into a permissions problem. It seems that any file I have created with Fedora I can browse to in Firefox. I cannot browse to files that I have downloaded from the internet or copied locally across our network. I changed file permissions to 755 and 777 for these files. I even thought that maybe it was the php file content that was causing the issue. So, I copied the file content from file 2 into file 1. File 1 was the file I could always browse to since I created it in Fedora. I could still browse to file 1 after it had file 2's content.
I look at the permissions and they appear the same for both files. I am not sure why I cannot open the other files. I downloaded phpMyAdmin. I cannot hit any of these files in a browser. I also copied some files from a a backup location we have internally. I cannot browse to any of these files either. I used chmod 777 filename. Even after doing that I could not hit any of the files. I moved the files into my document root directory ( /var/www/html ) and I still cannot browse to these files.

As such, the files aren't easily accessible.How might I ensure that downloaded files are visible on the screen and not 100px above & behind it? Perhaps related, I've got a second monitor attached to the laptop (primary). It seems this second monitor's resolution is affecting where downloaded files are put...out of sight.

I've tried all the settings in Monitor Preferences to no avail. Searched Google without luck. Currently on Ubuntu 10.10 and the system is (according to Update Manager) up-to-date.
I am using 10.10 but am having a problem with duplicates being automatically downloaded into my inbox in evolution. This has not happened under 10.04 with the same settings. How torid my inbox of the dupes? It seems to have faded away after the "official release" but I still have a messed up inbox. I use gmail recent mode with pop settings.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded partition wizard to get rid of a linux partition on my hard drive. after I fixed my mbr I used partition wizard to delete the linux partition and resized c to take up the rest of the space, partition wizard is reading my c drive as unallocated and also windows is not detecting my recovery partition at all... what can I do to fix this. I fear that even though my recovery partition exists that it may be of no use to me if windows does not recognize it, and how can I format the unallocated space with out loosing all of my data?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI work as a part-time consultant developing webpages, both back end and front end.When developing a back end application I'm using a server running ubuntu server edition to host the application while I'm developing it.The problem comes when I want to upload my changes to the server, now I'm using Dropbox both on the client and the server, the problem is that sometimes I have to wait over a minute for the changes to be downloaded (when I'm working out-of-home that is) so I'm looking for a better alternative. My options seems to be:Some open source version of dropbox which syncs directly to my server (haven't found anyting that sounds viable though)
Mount my server via some protocol (NFS, SSHFS etc)
Push changes manually via FTP, git, svn or something else
I'd like the sync to be as transparent as possible, meaning I'd like to do as little manual work as possible.The client I'd like to connect runs either OSX or Ubuntu.The ultimate solution would be to use NFS + VPN though that would be alot of work to set up and also I don't like the security in NFS (matching UID's doesn't seem very secure to me)
