I don't want to partition for Linux just yet, I'm still in the testing phase, but I started torrenting ISO files for Mint 9 KDE and Fedora and other Linux Distros but I forgot that I wasn't using my original 1TB of HDD, but only 30GB which is th maximum I could give it... How can I add more to it without partitioning?
View 3 RepliesI decided to remove my Kubuntu partition until I can fully dedicate my time to figuring out linux (right now I need Windows for certain things, i.e. flash and my zune).
I fixed the MBR, but the problem now is I have a 142.77 GB partition of free space. What do I do? Do I just delete it?
When I click delete this is the message I get:
"This is an Extended partition. This partition will become inaccessable if you delete it. Are you sure you want to delete this partition?"
I am essentially asking if this just means the partition will be gone and not the memory, and where the memory goes if I delete the partition.
I have downloaded ubuntu cd from bit torrent. Unfortunately my dvd rom is not working now. So i have decided to use windows installer. Can you give me any idea how to link this ubuntu which i have already downloaded from bit torrent?

When I run the installer, and choose the "manual select partitons" option, it lists only my full hardisk, whereas I have atleast 5 partitions on it, and none are shown. Could anybody help me with this? I want to install on one of the partitions and leave the rest intact. I am dual-booting BTW.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi am using unetbootin to create a live-usb of this iso: freemed-live-0.1-i386.iso (i think it is based on kubuntu). when i turn on my netbook with the usb plugged in i get about 6 menu items (default, live, live expert, linux, ...) but no matter which i select it takes me to some ubuntu text install where it is asking me to select language and keyboard layout.
is there a way make it boot to the live desktop ?
I am using malloc and frees a lot in my program. It shows its allocated but when i remove it doesnt show as the memory is removed(I am using the top command to view VIRT memory usage). If this continously grows what would happen to my program (Will it go out of memory?)

View 1 Replies View Relatedafter the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?
3. in the case that installation needs to start from the beginning, can I use the package downloaded?

I'm still quite new to Linux (using Mint 9) so please bear with my not-very-articulate question(s)When I boot up and open up a tty terminal I get a message saying "Memory corruption detected in low memory." I've done an extensive google search about the issue and it seems not uncommon. I ran a memtest with no errors returned, so I'm sure that there's nothing really wrong with the memory; apparently it's a bug in the kernel that's causing this.

Tri-booting. They were installed in the order I listed above. I ran into a few bugs with Kubuntu, so I no longer want to use it. I want to use GParted on a LiveCD to format Kubuntu and expand my Ubuntu home partition to sit on top of Kubuntu's space right now. If I nuke Kubuntu, will Grub still exist with my Ubuntu/XP entries to boot?

lsmod returns list of loaded modules but the graphics isn't one of them.

I am not sure which version, but I think its Edubuntu and I do not know how to actually open and install a downloaded program file from the web. A specific example is Adobe flash player. View 2 Replies View RelatedAs a long time Windows user, I am stuck on the basics of installing and running downloaded Linux applications. I've tried to read a few tutorials but am still baffled. I am using a Puppy based boot CD and, of course, the applications that come with the Puppy all work fine. It is when I try to add something new that I become lost. Example: I just downloaded a Linux version of the Firefox browser.
I click on the downloaded file in the Download Manager and kinda expect the thing to give me a executable set-up file, but just get a whole bunch of files. One available option is to "extract" them. I create a folder to extract them to and "extract". With Firefox I see nothing in that folder. With a few other applications, I see an extracted list of files but and try to find one file that will magically start and install or boot an application, but nothing ever happens. So, how does one download , extract, install, and then run a basic application? The references I have found on the Internet tend to be rather old or more complex that my brain can handle.
I download new versions of Firefox, extract them but don't know how to install them.
