I got an HP mini 1120NR as a gift and it runs Linux software. I am not sure which version, but I think its Edubuntu and I do not know how to actually open and install a downloaded program file from the web. A specific example is Adobe flash player. It goes into a list and asks me to open it with Archvie Manager, but after that I am lost.

I am in the process of moving all my data from Windows to Ubuntu. So far everything has gone well and I am very impressed with Ubuntu and regret not doing this years ago.
One program is giving problems. It is a program called Sharescope and I pay a subscription for it and it runs in my Windows partition. I downloaded Wine and then downloaded Sharescope three times but when I click to install it comes up with the following message;

I contacted Sharescope and they said it was a permission issue in Ubuntu. Is there any way to install this program or will I have to work with it in Windows?

Now it will not run because it needs MDAC. Is there an MDAC program available which might help? Otherwise, how can I remove this program? It is not listed under installed programs in the Ubuntu Software Center, but is under the Applications as an "other" program.

That means: A new Notebook gets about DHCP the Network-Information like IP-Adress etc.. When he now tries to open a Internet connection it should check if he's authenticated and if not he should get (if this try is from a browser) a login screen in http. It should also not be possible to have internetconnection without being logged in. The clients are Windoze, Mac and Linux. My question now. What programms/deamons are there for doing this authentication. Would you decide for another Programm instead of Squid?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had been having problems with Thunderbird 3, so decided to install 2.0.0.24. I carefully cleaned out all the 3.0 files. So I downloaded it. Opened it with tar and can see that there is now a Thunderbird folder with all inside of it. But how do I make it run?
If I use "whereis" to locate the file to make it run, it says it is in /etc but i sure can't see it. There is a thunderbird file that seems to be the one in the thunderbird folder, but double clicking and mark "run" does nothing.
How do you tell rhythmbox that podcasts already downloaded outside the program are in fact podcasts? Mine are mostly just mp3 files and it doesn't seem possible to drag and drop them into the podcast section but I also can't find anything in the song properties.

1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?

I want to install it with wubi because in this case their less chance of data loss and easier to use. When i put all the downloaded files(inside downloaded iso) and run wubi(that came with iso)int the same folder it tries to download set up from internet. this is the error. why it is not working with files in that folder.OK I try to install this this from xubuntu bootable USB using wubi it runs better install it runs for a minute(installs files) but at the end of installation same error occur says can't connect to internet.
