I would want a linux print server in the form of a web interface, where you upload a PDF, doc, JPG, PNG, PPT, TXT, HTM etc file in a file upload box, and then that file is printed to a USB connected Samsung CLX-3185 printer.Which linux distribution and software should I use then? I would want it to support so many file formats its possible.
View 1 Repliesi have custom programs written in Basis pro5. Standard output to a pdf virtual printer works fine. Using pdftk to overlay on to a form is hit or miss.... There are products out there like Unform that are just too expensive for my company. i have purchased another product from a company that prints the forms to the laser perfectly but i am incapable of capturing them and saving them as pdf's for archiving/emailing/faxing and i don't much care for this company.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo a family member was very nice and got me a killer server for my house. Not sure what I will do with it just yet. I will post spects shortly. Its Intel raided 2 750G drive 2G CPU and I believe 2 or 4 G memory. Rack mount with a KVM on it.
I have narrowed it down to 3 OS choices. Ubuntu : I run this on my LT and find it very nice for that. Some nice Media server Sw out there for it. I do some side work on RedHat and for my current employer so I was thinking CentOS or Fedora so I have a system running a similar OS on it.
At home this may be a www or media server for me long term. Or I may just use it as a test system initially to work on these Linux versions. I know this is all subjective and depends on what I plan to do with the server in the long run.
But out of the Fedora and CentOS release which is better knowing I am doing work in Red Hat for my current employer?
I've already tried Seamonkey to create a web page but can find no way to create a web form in which I want to create form fields. Before moving to Ubuntu I used Microsoft FrontPage to create web pages with form fields. This was easy to do. what is available to do the same in Ubuntu?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are using several printers on our Linux RH network to print customer invoices and receipts. Receipts are short forms of just 21 or 22 lines. Two of the printers (an HP LJ1300 and a Dell 5200) eject the receipt paper automatically; the other two HP (a LJ 4200 and a LJ2420) do not eject. You have to press the green button on the printer. Is there a solution to that? They are all set up with the same PCL settings.

The printer is connected to the server running Ubuntu Server 9.10 (no gui). If I access the printer via http://hostname:631/printers/, I am able to print a test page, so I know the printer is working; however, I am having no luck from Windows. Windows can see the printer when browsed via hostname, but I am unable to connect. Windows says "Windows cannot connect to the printer" without indicating why.

I have ubuntu server installed on an older 1700+ AMD machine with 512 DDR Ram and 40 GB HD. I don't know the first command to type in the Linux command line and from what I have read their is a GUI interface you can install but it's not recommended for security purposes. My question is can you install the GUI to setup the server and then uninstall it when your done and is there any downside to this approach?

For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.
I have a local network of two computers running ubuntu connected via a Netgear FR114P. I also have one of the computers connected WiFi to the internet. Can I get on the internet from the alternate computer via the network? Some assistance is appreciated as I am a relative newcomer to this area.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAt our university server, I patched together a script (lets call it connect.py) that kind of glues together a series of calls to different other programs (the first one is in Python2.X, the second is a binary so I use os.system('/path/to/program input.pot') to start it, and the last is in Python3.X). It kind of seems to work well now when working under my user account, where the script has the permissions to call the programs, because I installed them.Now, when I want to start the connect script by pressing a submit button in an HTML form, naturally I start running into trouble. Now its no longer my user who is calling, but the server (Apache) with very limited rights. In the progress of writing the connect.py script, I had to do quite some environment adjustment so the various Python modules could be imported.
What is the easiest way to get the script started from an HTML form? I guess it would not be good practice to start extending the PATH variables of Apache, would it?

I have Red Hat Linux machine from which i want to issue print jobs.
I have Windows Print Server having multiple printers connected to it.
I am able to print jobs from Windows client to any of these printers. But i am not able to print from Red Hat Linux. (i have verified that i can print using smbclient utility, but based on my reading, CUPS API could be used from application to discover, print and issue print jobs.)
I am not able to get the correct configuration for setting up CUPS client.

After restarting the proftpd server and applying the configuration, I try downloading a file in IE browser. Sometimes, it prompts a saveas dialog, and everything was okay.
However, it occasionally prompts a login form instead of a SaveAs dialog. This makes our customers confused greatly.
So, how could I prevent browser from prompting login form when anonymous users try to download files from our ftp server?

I have Fedora 14 installed. I'm trying to install CentOS 5.5 from the hard disk. I copied the seven part iso to the /iso. I didn't create a directory in the /iso. I ran the md5sum on the seven parts and compared it with the md5sum that is provided on the website and they are all identical.
When I tried to install from the hard problem, the first thing is instead of sda1,2,3,5 I found the following options:
well, I selected /dev/hda2 and left the directory blank. The images can't be found. What am I doing wrong? And why is the difference between sda in the partition and hda in the installation?
I'm new to setting up Linux Servers. I've setup a Ubuntu 10.10 Server along with CUPS and I'm using Webmin to talk to the server. I have a HP PSC 1315 Multifunction printer connected via usb to the server. Using the CUPS web interface I am able to get the server to detect the connected printer and it identified the HP PSC 1310 Series drivers.
When I printer a test page from the server's screen the print job goes through ok and the size was about 5k.
I then setup a samba share to allow my Windows 7 machine to share the printer. Windows 7 is able to pick up the shared printer correctly and I used the default HP 1310 Series drivers. When I tried to send a test page to the printer, that single page ended up being 3887kb and I also tried printing out a single paged word document which ended up being over 7MB.
I am running a NFS share on a Debian Lenny server with to network interface.

If the system is rebooted then NFS is functional again. I would like to know way this happens somtimes so i can repair it, anyone with an idea? Another thing is that i would like to bind the NFS service to a specific interface e.g eth1 is this possible?
I have just installed the centos 5.3 on my server machine. It looks for a USB media to boot. But I am not able to figure it out what i have done wrong. Why does it asks for USB media?If I have created a dependency of USB to boot, Is there any way i can remove this dependency. Or I have to reinstall the OS again?
View 1 Replies View RelatedPossible Duplicate: How to recover form information for a webpage in Firefox I typed a couple of paragraphs on a discussion board, but when I clicked the submit button, the site was undergoing (un)scheduled maintenance, and the back button decided to refresh the page, sending my paragraphs into oblivion.A quick web search revealed that Lazarus provides form recovery for Firefox. However, installing a plugin requires restarting Firefox, and even after restarting Firefox (which I haven't done yet), Lazarus can't recover forms it hasn't backed up yet.Now that the horse is out of the barn, I want to do the impossible: restore some or all of the text I typed, without restarting my browser.
Edit: I should clarify. Lazarus is a wonderful solution for preventing future form data loss. This question is for people who have already navigated away from their form and lost its contents, but hope there is some way to salvage the situation. My solution was to get a core dump of the process and grep through it, but there might be a layman's way to do it (for example, somehow get Firefox to load the cached version of the previous page). Thus, solutions that only solve the problem in the future, without addressing the present, are off-topic in this question.
