General :: Windows Can See Ubuntu Server Printer, But Can't Print To It?

Feb 5, 2010

I have an old desktop that I'm trying to set up as a home backup/print server. Backup was trivial, but am having issues getting the printing to work. The printer is connected to the server running Ubuntu Server 9.10 (no gui). If I access the printer via http://hostname:631/printers/, I am able to print a test page, so I know the printer is working; however, I am having no luck from Windows. Windows can see the printer when browsed via hostname, but I am unable to connect. Windows says "Windows cannot connect to the printer" without indicating why.

From /etc/samba/smb.conf:
[global]
workgroup = WORKGROUP
dns proxy = no
security = user

General :: CUPS Client Configuration For Printing To Windows Print Server

May 24, 2011

Since last few weeks i am struggling to setup printer connected to print server.

Here is the setup that i have:

I have Red Hat Linux machine from which i want to issue print jobs.

I have Windows Print Server having multiple printers connected to it.

I am able to print jobs from Windows client to any of these printers. But i am not able to print from Red Hat Linux. (i have verified that i can print using smbclient utility, but based on my reading, CUPS API could be used from application to discover, print and issue print jobs.)

I am not able to get the correct configuration for setting up CUPS client.

Server :: Windows 7 To Linux Server Print Job Size Very Large

Jan 21, 2011

I'm new to setting up Linux Servers. I've setup a Ubuntu 10.10 Server along with CUPS and I'm using Webmin to talk to the server. I have a HP PSC 1315 Multifunction printer connected via usb to the server. Using the CUPS web interface I am able to get the server to detect the connected printer and it identified the HP PSC 1310 Series drivers.

When I printer a test page from the server's screen the print job goes through ok and the size was about 5k.

I then setup a samba share to allow my Windows 7 machine to share the printer. Windows 7 is able to pick up the shared printer correctly and I used the default HP 1310 Series drivers. When I tried to send a test page to the printer, that single page ended up being 3887kb and I also tried printing out a single paged word document which ended up being over 7MB.

Ubuntu :: Recommendations For Supported Wireless Print Server?

Jun 28, 2011

I have found it difficult to research a wireless print server which will be supported on Linux. I use Debian 6 and Ubuntu 10.04 (also Windows 7 64 bit, Vista, and MACOS Snow Leopard). Everyone in my household using uses a different OS, so it is all the more difficult to ensure interoperability across so many OSs. Where can I find a definitive, authoritative and complete list of supported print servers? Also, I want to keep things simple as possible. This is an important criterion for my choice of wireless print server.

GUI mediated setup/install is much preferred over complex configuration files and command line. I know of CUPs, but I don't know if CUPs will regulate the wireless print server and what's involved. The print server is to enable sharing of Brother HL-4050CDN printer. I'm seriously considering F5L049au (see Belkin : Home Base). But the customer support people tell me it does not support Linux. But this is true of the majority of the print server market. Must support N network standard, the printer above, be wireless, and be Linux compatible.

Ubuntu Networking :: Using Scanner Through A Linksys Wireless Print Server?

Mar 4, 2010

I have an HP PSC2110 that is connected to a Linksys WPSM54G wireless print server. Printing works great, no issues what so ever. I am wondering if anyone has been able to configure the scanner to work that way as well. If I connect the PSC2210 to my laptop via USB, XSane sees the scanner and works perfectly. I am trying to figure out if there is a way for XSane to see the scanner through the Linksys PS?

Karmic 9.1 64 bit
Toshiba Satellite L455
Linksys WPSM54G ver 1.1
HP PSC2110

Not sure what else I should list.

General :: Hp 3050 Wireless Printer Don't Print From Puppy 5.1

Jul 24, 2011

I got a hp 3050J610 wireless all in one and hooked it up to my wireless network
and it works fine from windows vista from my hp notebook. I also run puppy 5.1
off a pen drive which runs fine on the laptop. Puppy sees my network fine and
goes on the internet from my satalite modem over the wireless network no problems.
I installed the wireless printer to puppy with the cups wizard without any errors or problems. Cups found the printer and correct ip address no problem. I used the 610c driver from the cups menu which I assume is the right one. I can't seem to find another one. It lists the printer and lists the right ip address. when I try to print it shows it is printing the print job but nothing happens at the printer. I look in the print manager and it shows the print job was done. I can ping the ip address and get a responce.

General :: Cannot Get Ubuntu To Print To Windows 7 Attached Printer

Oct 14, 2010

I have a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 and my basement computer running Windows 7. I want to be able to access files on on both computers from either. I also want to be able to print from my laptop to the printer attached to the basement computer. I finally got printing working. Then I tackled the filesharing. I finally get filesharing working and now, I can't get printing working again, even though I've gone back to the version of smb.conf that I had when I was able to print. So here is what I've got.

<->testparm
Testparm results.txt
<-> Printer State

When I look at my printer properties in Ubuntu I see the status: Idle - Unable to connect to CIFS host after (tried 3 times) Cups Error Log When I look at the Printer Error Log, I see: (partial) Printer log extract.txt I can ping the IP address of the windows box 192.168.0.5, but when I try to ping the name owner-pc it fails. This would lead me to beleive that the there is a name resolution problem.

General :: Print Multiple Independent Pages In One Print Job?

Mar 23, 2010

How can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.

I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.

My printer is presently configured to print, wireless, from my Mac OSX desktop and I don't know if that creates a conflict. According to the Linux dictum, however, the laptop, once configured for the Brother printer, should "just work." Well, it doesn't! get the laptop to send data and print from the printer?

Fedora :: Print To A Windows Shared Printer?

Oct 21, 2010

Yesterday I installed FC13.i636, Gnome 2.30.0, on my Dell Latitude D505 laptop. Fresh install from live CD, single partition. Installed all 400+ recommended updates last night. System is working *very* smoothly.I want to print (wireless connection) to my Canon MP160 printer, which is attached to my WinXP machine, and is set as a Shared printer in WinXP. I can print to it fine with my iBook.I used the System/Admin/Printing app to set up a networked printer, letting the app "find" the printer. Printer now shows in the app as:

lpd://192.168.1.108

I choose the appropriate driver and tried a test page. Test page job results in queue showing job "processing" but nothing comes from printer, even ten minutes later. Printer properties show:

Printer state: Idle - /usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd failed

How do I fix the "failed" problem?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Printer Installed But Wont Print?

The problem is that I cannot print to my HP Laserjet 1022nw. The IP for the printer is 192.168.2.2 and I can reach it (and print) from my windows machine. But, if I use the laptop it cannot reach the server at 192.168.2.2 and all print jobs freeze. It's odd because I used the Ubuntu network printer install AppSocket/HP JetDirect connection and it found the printer at socket://192.168.2.2:9100 and installed the correct Foomatic driver. But now the browser cannot get to 192.168.2.2 and it wont print. What am I missing?
