Server :: Always Prompting Login Form When Anonymous Users Try Download Files From Ftp ?
Mar 21, 2010
I'm trying adjust my proftpd server's settings, that anonymous users could download what they need smoothly.
A small problem made me so bemused:
In the configuration file of proftpd, I place the following setting section in the <anonymous> section,
Code:
After restarting the proftpd server and applying the configuration, I try downloading a file in IE browser. Sometimes, it prompts a saveas dialog, and everything was okay.
However, it occasionally prompts a login form instead of a SaveAs dialog. This makes our customers confused greatly.
So, how could I prevent browser from prompting login form when anonymous users try to download files from our ftp server?
how to add files (and where) for anonymous download. I installed vsftpd and configure /etc/vsftpd.conf file...just few common options like allowing anonymous, download, upload. And now i can login with anonymous. But i dont know what to do next, i want to try to download and upload files.
I have a remote VPS with 9.10 installed and would like to host some files on it. I'd like to be able to download the files from a browser using a login name and password.
Recently i am having an issues with my fedora11. Whenever i got the login screen when i start up my OS, i entered the password and press enter, it will bring me back to the same screen as i never entered any password. It is always repeating the same tasks (inserting my password and enter) for about 6 times then only success to login to my computer
I have a text based game installed on a Linux server, and I would like to allow logins on that server via SSH, but with restrictions. The login should go directly to the game which reads keyboard input from stdin. If the game quits the user should be immediately disconnected from the server. Alternately, if the user logs in there should only be one command available to the user, the game.I have thought about using a web based interface to the game, but there is something about playing the game in a terminal that just feels right. Please don't reply with "this is a bad idea..." or its variants because that is an easy out. I just want to know if anyone knows of a solution.
I have a server 192.168.1.14 (I will call it 14) it runs Ubuntu server 10.04 and I have my Ubuntu Laptop 192.168.1.3 ( I will call it 3) that runs Ubuntu 10.10. I need to find a way to add users from my Laptop (user X) or a Windows machine user (Y). What I am trying to accomplish is to have file permissions some for Y only and some for X only and some for a group that contains X and Y. Now I have a Dir, on the server 14, with the owner Z (server user) and I gave it permission 760. Now my user X, from Laptop 3, (they have the same name in real life) is not able to access those files on a NFS share.
I would like to have the 760 perm and be able to access those files without doing a 777. I am thinking to add all users (XYZ)to a group and give read permissions for the group. My dilemma comes when the users are on different machines. I already created equal users on server with the same name but it does not do the trick. When connecting to server from 3 I can't access files that are owner by the group where user Z belongs (even if user X has the same name and password). I am thinking there has to be a deeper way of identifying users.
I have configured the proxy server. I want to observer users's download information. What should I need to do? Shall I install squint? what is the process? How do I monitor the users?
i have a postfix mail server in my office and mailscanner. recently i changed the password of mailscanner's admin login 'mailwatch' and now i m unable to get login in postfixmail scanner. even i changed the password of mailwatch user from mysql database, bt it does not work. get login into mailscanner to chk the mails of all users.
I got 10.04 LTS installed off a flash drive downloaded from unetbootin. I have updated this just now, with update manager. Some how the IP addy for the download is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 80. Trouble is they did not put in the colon in the :80 so it never goes to get the down load. where this in what directory so I can edit it? Sry guess the server was down all day or my ISP was messyed up got it going now.
This is my quest: i need to install a box with a proxy server where useres can login, register what those users have been doing on-line and generate a dailly activaty report... I have been googleing for days and so far a tried out zeroshell (no reports) and untangle (no login)...
i have been trying to complete the following project1) Configure a FTP server where we can upload and download files.........2) server must run at 9 pm & stop at 9 am automatically ............although the first task was easy ,i have no idea how to accomplish the 2nd task(not to mention I'm a new user)
I am trying to set up a network where users can login to a central server which gives access to a partition depending on their role in the company e.g development or HR.my ideal world would be a computer sits on the desk. someone comes along logins they have all their files. they can then login with the same user information else where in the office.
I have an Ubuntu 9.10 server and i need to use an ftp server. I installed vsftp but i can't make it to work. What doesn't work is that can't login to the ftp server with my user(s).I created a user ("AddressBookUser") that should access to some files located on "/var/www/fpt/rubriche/". I set this folder as his home. Here is the row for this user in /etc/passwd:
vsftpd.chroot_list exists, but as you see above the chroot_list_file directive is disabled. When i try to connect to the FTP server the connections is established but after i insert "AddressBookUser" as user name and confirm i get a "530 permission denied" message. This occurs both from the network (LAN) computers and locally:
Quote:
webs@webs:/etc$ ftp localhost Connected to localhost. 220 Welcome to WEBS FTP service!
[code]...
I can't figure out what is the problem but my thought was that it's a problem related to the user configuration rather than vsftp configuration, but it's only my supposition. If i try to login with the "main" user of my Ubuntu server, "webs" i can login correctly.
I've setup a Lamp Server for Testing, The Lamp Server is Up & Running on CentOs 5.5
I am now trying to setup a VSFTP server where local users can upload files to there home directory so that Apache can serve web pages straight from the directories of system user home/accounts giving users the ability to run their own web sites which are hosted off the main server [tutorial here: [url]
So far i have been able to serve/display index.html files from the users home directory [url] but so far i cant upload files to any user home directory, every time i try to upload a file with filezilla i get this error message: 553 Could not create file. Critical file transfer error
I have searched online for similar problems like mine and so far i've tried alot of the solution but none seem to work. I'm confused, dont know where i went wrong, i put the users in a group called ftpusers and here are the permissions on the users (test, ftpuser & testftp) home directory. have a look an tell me where i went wrong :(
Also the root directory where the web pages are served from is called public_html here are the permissions
Here is my vsftp.conf file can someone check it to see if i made any errors in there:
I`am just trying to connect Samba with ldap to make it simpler for the users to log in. We have already attached squid, so by that we thought it would be easy to do the same with samba. I think we did something wrong with the ldap config for the os with is btw:
Quote: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64) VERSION = 11 PATCHLEVEL = 1 We added Quote: ldap admin dn = cn=xxx,o=xxx
There are over a dozen of servers that I need to monitor for services running on them. Hence, I have created a separate VM on which I am hosting scripts for various purposes. I have written a script (bash) that checks the status of the services running on those servers. Since my script has this line of command (for example):
Code: /sbin/service vsftpd status I have created a user (let's name it user_monitor) and added it to /etc/sudoers file by issuing "visudo" on all the servers. Since I need to execute the command remotely from the VM so I have generated a Public RSA Key (ssh-heygen) and added it to "authorized_keys" file on all the servers. But on some servers when issue a command such as the following:
I m trying to access a site through a perl script for a project of mine, and i use a system call fora wget.
The login form is this
Code:
I mean should i add in the --post-data all the hidden fields? should i try using perl's md5 function for the last two fields? anyone has any idea on what are the elements i should be sending along --post-data?
Is there a way to --load-cookies from mozilla or something similar instead of creating new cookies with wget?
There's something I would like to do. It's simple, it MUST be possible. I can't find any way to do it by Googling it. I'm must be looking for it in a wrong way.Let's say I have a directory called dir1. In it, I have these files: A1, A2, A3 belong to user "userA", files B1 and B2 belong to "userB". Both users are in group "groupNO", but the files are in group "groupYES".
What I want is this: if someone tries to mount the folder by NFS (or could it be done with Samba?), as userA, they can only see (or read) files A1, A2, A3,as userB, they can only see (or read) files B1 and B2,as a user in groupYES, they can see and open all the files. This is just the principle. If I need to sort them into directories or use another program on the server-side, that's fine with me. I just want the user to just have to mount the folder over the LAN with a user name and password. I'm fairly sure I can do it by SFTP, but, again, I want the client to be able to MOUNT the folder on their local machine over the LAN no to user a special client. Is that possible? Do I need LDAP? (From what I understand, LDAP is separate from the OS-level mounting process, which is not what I want.)
I am trying to deploy Kerberos and LDAP so users will be able to login in to a server on the edge of the LAN, and afterwards be able to establish a SSH connection to all the computers in that LAN without the need to type any passwords, and without the need for me to manage SSH keys [beside the SSH keys on the login server] and local user accounts.
1. When i create the users in OpenLDAP i use a template that i created by reading documentation from the Internet. In the template one piece of information that is neede is the UID. Is there any clever way the keep track of the numbers so i do not assign the same UID to two users, besides using a pen and paper?
2. For the users to be able to establish SSH connections between the computers, the host is going to be added to the keytab like this: ktadd host/client.example.com Is is possible to replace client with something genric so i do not need to mange these keytab files between the hosts?
3. Users will be logging on the the server on the edge of LAN by using SSH keys. How can i configure the setup so the users will recieve a ticket automatically when the logon without executing kinit and without entering a password, just by having a valid SSH key?
4. krb5kdc is running on all the network interfaces in the server i want it to only run on eth1, how can this be done?
Running Debian 5. I have a small server that needs to provide anonymous ftp service (download only) to the folks in my dept (we have a firewall that will keep outsiders out, so I'm not worried about outside folks getting to the files). The question is: which anonymous ftp server should I install? Something that can be installed via "apt-get install xyzzy", where I can edit the /etc/xyzzy.conf file to point to the /home/ftp directory, and start/stop it with /etc/init.d/xyzzy start|stop|restart command.
vsftpd is working fine in my network with anonymous user but i need to access that from out-side all the setting is done on the router. I am getting page to access ftp form out-side but only for ftp users not anonymous user how i will give permeation to access ftp to anonymous user ?
I have configured a FTP (VSFTPD) Server in RHEL 5.6, which resulted me a default directory /var/ftp/pub. Even i have cerated another Directory /var/ftp/accounts. Where Accounts Directory is owned by user x in my server. I have a issue with this, It prompts me User and Password while accessing this ftp 192.168.5.20 in Linux Servers. But while i am trying this through a windows machine by ftp://192.168.5.20 it gets directly accessed without prompting me any User and Password.
I need to have FTP environment same like windows. where it must prompt me user name and password, and i must be able to upload and download data from my windows clients.
i'm using ftp server with RHEL-5.1 now i wish to an anonymous user can create and upload some file on my ftp server... for this i configure the entries in /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf
anonymous_enable=YES # Uncomment this to allow local users to log in. local_enable=YES
i have a NIS master server and 4 NIS clients. out of 4 nis clients two are acting as login servers ie users will login and do all their stuffs and the remaining two are application servers. But sometimes users login into applications servers and started doing all their developer's job. i want to allow only a limited number of users tointo this application users not all the users who are all part of the nis domain.all the systems are running RHEL 5.4 on hp's proliant x86_64 based servers. Please advice me how should i proceed? enabling ip tables is not possible in my environment.
