I'm running puppy linux and my wireless works for about 10 minutes before crapping out. Then I tried going thru the internet wizard again and it won't detect my wireless connection. All my other machines are using this connection at the same time with no problem. The situation is temporarily resolved when i reboot.
View 4 RepliesI am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.
desktop: ubuntu 9.10 , wireless and LAN
laptop: windows xp, LAN only
my wireless will simply stop working after each new webpage loads. Whats strange is that it will not disconnect me, and the wireless icon in the top right will continue to show that I am connected to the internet. I am currently tethered to my phone and the internet is working fine. Once If I switch to my regular wireless internet and disonnect and reconnect to my home router then the webpage will load fine only once then after that it will not work again until I disconncet and reconnect again.
This is not a problem for anyone else in my house who all use macs (needless to say they are all very smug about this). Also when I connect to my schools wireless internet there is not a problem. Also restarting my modem and router at home does nothing to solve the problem. Like I said before this just started up about 3 days ago and has baffled me since.

Useing gnome network manger. I thught that is DNS resolve problem, and wrote in linksys router the same DNS as 3g huaweii modem use. Steel the some result. NO INTERNET. Change for static ip in router and try use the same gatway , but steell can't use connected at the same time to internet with 3g and local router.
Only one devace at the same time, Router have no any acces to internat. SO why 3g internet stoping working after connecting router to LAN ports? Has it some thing to do with subnet or ip range and routing table?

I have a windows computer that has a virus on it. This computer isn't worth much so I don't want to get a virus program to clear it. I know the virus probably won't be able to crash the linux OS, but will it be able to transfer itself to flash drives if I am running linux?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy LAN has 2 PCs installed, Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows XP. I run the server on Ubuntu, and client on Windows XP. Because I am doing stress test, so the client will keep sending tons of packets to server.
The strange thing is: After few seconds, the client program crash because of insufficient network buffer, the server is still ok. But after that I cant connect Ubuntu PC anymore until I restart it. And I check the router, the led for the Ubuntu PC is always ON (not blinking), look like it is jam already.
I am using squid in my Linux box. I want to allow my office staff that they may use internet from Monday to Friday.The IP range that they are using is 192.168.1.20. to 192.168.1.50 In /etc/squid/squid.conf file under acl tag

Connected to the "server" is a Windows Vista PC.Beyond installing the O/S with all the options I need - I am stuck. The Windows PC will not connect to the internet whereas the Linux server will.What do I need to setup and in what order to get the pc working on the internet?
The path that I think I need to take is to disable dhcp on the broadband router and setup the server as dhcp (how and what); setup the rules in the firewall (how and what rules?) and setup dns and dhcp (how and what?)

I have myself plugged into two networks - since we run two networks here at work (long story, we merged and never combined them due to two different companies) and want to block ALL internet access off eth1, and only have it off eth0. I only want traffic from 192.168.67.1-192.168.67.255 allowed on eth1, but everything allowed on eth0. Or is there a way for the internet/applications to be on eth0 instead of eth1? Would I use iptables or something?

Did it as follows:Eth0 connectionPrimary DNS 192.168.1.1When I click on Activate, it says:8139too device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.This message shows no matter how many times I log out or restart.I don't know what the heck is the problem. I've done the essentials but still it's not working. I looked up on the net but people were saying things like ifconfig and lspci, and at the end still weren't able to solve it. I don't know all this since I'm new to Linux. Another important thing...after facing this same problem some time ago, I installed Centos which asked for internet settings right at the time of installation. And after logging in for the first time, I was able to use internet without any problem. How come internet works on Centos (which is a copy of RHEL) without any problems, but not working on RHEL itself?

whats the difference between restarting/stopping apache using 'service httpd restart/stop' and apachectl restart/stop. I know that using 'service httpd restart' is actually a script in /etc/init.d/httpd but what about apachectl?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a DSL connection attached to a wireless router at home which at the moment working fine on my windows laptop. However I have problems connecting to the internet via my desktop which has fedora on it and TP-Link PCI Wireless card. The connection with the wireless network keeps restarting, disconnecting and reconnecting and when it is connected either no internet or very slow sluggish internet barely loading the webpage title.
I installed Ubuntu and the same problem is happening.Yesterday However everything was working fine even on the desktop.
When I first installed Fedora about 4 days ago I had the same problem but when i restarted the computer everything worked fine. Restarting the machine does not seem to solve the problem now.Please help me diagnose the problem here as it's really hard for me to extend a cable from my desktop to my router. And I need to internet on my Desktop.
few days back i forcibly remove my flash drive from the USB, but after that the pen drive seems to stop working whenever i try to insert the pen drive in Windows or Linux, i see the appropriate image but if i double click on the image it says nothing is mounted,
i have seen what is mounted with

no pen drive is showing
i have tried to mount it forcibly with
#mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /media/external -o force
with variou combination of /dev/**** can anyone mount this pen drive or can tell me what's the default for /dev/ ??? i think sdb1 it works with my external drive but i am not sure for flash drive and i am also not sure if it's ntfs file system, it's 4 GB so it should be ntfs
I was burning a disc with K3b and it was from an ISO; Burn and verify. Everything went successful, but when I put in my 2nd DVD to burn, K3b doesn't recognize it. On top of that when I right click on the icon of a Blank DVD on my desktop, it doesn't have the Eject Volume option there anymore. Does anybody know what could be going on here? why would my Fedora (11) stop burning and ejecting discs all of a sudden?
also, I tried this with multiple DVDs/drives to see if they were bad DVDs/drives and it's all the same result. Also, since I didn't have the eject option on my desktop I had to eject it with K3b from within the program. There's still a problem though.
edit: Some reason K3b is recognising discs again and is burning again. I guess the restart did it and I don't know why it was acting funny.
I'm using edgers ppa and its been really nice until now, this morning I updated as usual and to my surprise after restart compiz is not working anymore.compiz-check does not print anything wrong with my system.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running a SuperMicro GPU server with nvidia GFX 750 card. Debian Sid with last update this morning. The server is far away from the screen. So i'm using 5m active USB 2.0 cable with one Belkin powered hub. All USB device work always correctly.
But sometimes, my keyboard (a logitech illuminated) doesn't work anymore. I need to disconnect and reconnect it. Backlight keep on but no key work. I can't change the numlock or caps lock too.
Apparently, this appear mainly (only?) when i use the keyboard (for shortcut or typing text in vim).
I've tried with and without autosuspend (setting manually or from GRUB).
