is it correct or I have to add some things more to stop internet access only on Saturday and Sunday.
I am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.
desktop: ubuntu 9.10 , wireless and LAN
laptop: windows xp, LAN only
Just read through some cron manuals. (man -k cron).Didnt understood that much though.I'm a gamer and loosing control over time at nights.
So what i want is that my computer shuts down itself at latest 1:30 am. Do i need to set up the command for each day (monday, tuesday.. and so on) or is there an option simliar to my 'example' below?

Where as 1 to 5 would be all weekdays, but not saturday or sunday morning at 1:30am.If i can shorten it to 1 line instead of 7 lines (one per day of week) that would be great.
I have one linux server act as gateway which is run on fedora platform. The problem occured recently when it keeps on shutting down itself during the weekend.. I have no idea what caused this autoshutdown. For your info, the server is NOT scheduled to auto-shutdown mode.

I have myself plugged into two networks - since we run two networks here at work (long story, we merged and never combined them due to two different companies) and want to block ALL internet access off eth1, and only have it off eth0. I only want traffic from 192.168.67.1-192.168.67.255 allowed on eth1, but everything allowed on eth0. Or is there a way for the internet/applications to be on eth0 instead of eth1? Would I use iptables or something?
View 4 Replies View RelatedUseing gnome network manger. I thught that is DNS resolve problem, and wrote in linksys router the same DNS as 3g huaweii modem use. Steel the some result. NO INTERNET. Change for static ip in router and try use the same gatway , but steell can't use connected at the same time to internet with 3g and local router.
Only one devace at the same time, Router have no any acces to internat. SO why 3g internet stoping working after connecting router to LAN ports? Has it some thing to do with subnet or ip range and routing table?

I am new in configuring named.I want to set my firewall (Fedora 11) as a name server. The local domain is a Windows domain. I'd like internal users translate domain name into IP on this server when they go to the internet. After reading some posts on the web, I set up named as below. It seems the named does the job but with some problems.
1) When I start the server, I couldn't find the named process even if the file "named" is in /etc/init.d. I can browse Internet on the server with domain name (DNS works locally). But internal users couldn't get the domain name translated. If I shutdown the server at this stage, it will shutdown within 1 minute.
2) If I run "service named start" after the server boot up, I see process "named" and named work okay. Both internal user and local host can browse Internet with domain name. However, any command starting with "service named" has no response after this, such as "service named status" or "service named stop". I can see it shows "stopping named" and this last forever. I have to kill the process then restart named server so that named may run again.
3) If I shutdown the server now, it will take 4-5 minute instead of 1 minute in 1). The shutdown stuck at "shutdown named" for 4 minutes. Even if I kill process named before the shutdown, it will take 4-5 minutes.
It took me a week on this issue. I appreciate if you could take a look my configure files and guide me through this.
I walked into work this morning and had a message from the system that my root drive had very little space. I traced it down to my message.1 file and kern.log.1 file. Together, they were over 2 GB.I am able to browse the file shares.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed on friday a new distro on my computer, ubuntu 10.04 lts on my 1GB ram and 3Ghz computer. It has dual booting system. Everything worked fine, i have even been using the xwindows and althought i must say that it felt a bit slow in time reaction to my typing still good enough. I left the computer running with no programs, just idle and now my computers screen is dead. I can not see anything.
I restarted the computer and in normal mode it goes black.I started in recovery mode and i manage to get to a console where I type startx and i see the next error.So I had a fresh install, i worked with the xserver (so i do not think is a driver problem) fine until i left the computer without running anything and the xserver crashed.
I'm running puppy linux and my wireless works for about 10 minutes before crapping out. Then I tried going thru the internet wizard again and it won't detect my wireless connection. All my other machines are using this connection at the same time with no problem. The situation is temporarily resolved when i reboot.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy wireless will simply stop working after each new webpage loads. Whats strange is that it will not disconnect me, and the wireless icon in the top right will continue to show that I am connected to the internet. I am currently tethered to my phone and the internet is working fine. Once If I switch to my regular wireless internet and disonnect and reconnect to my home router then the webpage will load fine only once then after that it will not work again until I disconncet and reconnect again.
This is not a problem for anyone else in my house who all use macs (needless to say they are all very smug about this). Also when I connect to my schools wireless internet there is not a problem. Also restarting my modem and router at home does nothing to solve the problem. Like I said before this just started up about 3 days ago and has baffled me since.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just want to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to connect to the internet. I have done a massive amount of troubleshooting, but some of it seems to contradict itself, and the only two things that I know for sure are that it used to work, and that my Ethernet cable is not the problem. When I use Terminal utilities like ifup and dhclient it seems that it can not determine IP information, but when I try to put it in manually, the "Apply" button grays out right after I finish typing it in. When I try to connect normally, in KDE or GNOME, the icon acts like it's connecting, then instead of having the connected icon, I receive a notification that "the network has been disconnected", and it goes back to the disconnected icon.
Oh, and by the way, I know that I could probably find a workaround, but I have limited resources, and this used to work. The Linux is a Dell desktop with Fedora 12 and the Windows is a Windows 7 HP laptop.EDIT: I hope that I didn't mess something up, but I accidentally used system-network-config to try putting in the IP address there, and ended up changing it back to the original settings, but the computer is now calling it Auto Ethernet in the taskbar icon, although sudo iwconfig in the terminal still calls it eth0.

View 14 Replies View RelatedWe installed Fedora on top by my WindowsXP, we have updated the connection information with the addresses, but can't access any website. Connection Manager says we're connected. We created a new wired network connection, but it doesn't appear in the choices.
I installed Ubuntu recently and had a similar problem, only mine was that my computer was competing with hers (something to do with DHCP). The solution was to alter my /etc/network/interfaces file, but I also screwed with settings in the "Network Connections" thing, pretty much altering a connection my /etc/network/interfaces file seemed to have made. My problem was only solved as far as I cared. I wonder if this is the same problem.
On the other hand, we attempted connecting the Fedora box directly to a modem and still no internet, so I believe they are entirely unrelated. But I wanted to include this for completeness in case they are.
I have the following nasty issue:I am using fedora 12 and I use vpn for working remote.When I browse the internet the speed is very slow!even when I do a yum update it downloads the packages with max 100kb. if I drop the vpn connection I download the packages with 1Mbdo you know what the problem could be? i created the vpn connection using the network manager...it is a regular pptp connection for the vpn!

I can can get to the internet via ping ( both ip address and www.whatever.com) so it appears that DNS is working. But YUM is not working-error 110 connection timed out.I have disabled the firewall and SElinux.I had a similar problem when I was loading F10 and Scott pointed me at a fix that requires me to get the dnsmasq update but with yum not working I am at a standstill.
View 5 Replies View Relatedfor the last one week i'm facing problem in sharing internet between xp and fedora. I'm connected to internet through wireless adapter in xp and wants to share internet through crossover cable between xp and fedora. I did the following steps.
1: start a network setup wizard in xp.
2: change the smb.conf file in fedora and change the workgroup name to same as in xp.
3:in Xp the ethernet adapter has address 192.168.0.1/24.
4: when i connect the crossover cable and start fedora. it couldn't get the ip address through dhcp.
5: when i tried giving the ip address manually "192.168.0.2/24 with gateway 192.168.0.1"and save the subnet mask is replaced by 192.168.0.1 don't know why it not saved.
i tried changing new ethernet card but not worked. some time avc denials message "SELinux is preventing consoletype (consoletype_t) "read" to /var/lib/dhclient/dhclient-eth0.leases (dhcpc_state_t)." comes. can any one tell me how to enable or make a network in fedora . i 'm very new in linux and couldn't able to share network .
I've worked with Fedora 10 for quite a time, with no problems regarding network or internet.Now that I've upgraded to Fedora 11, nothing regarding networking works. I have a dual LAN nVidia controlled network card. I've tried every possible network setting (dhcp, local only, etc...) and also tried to connect 2 pc's via direct connection, all without a result.
When I activate dhcp (as I normally would do/did), fedora tries to connect (with this blue balls spinning next to the clock), but then after a while, I just says that the network doesn't connect (the little red cross over the network connection).If I try to enter the ip, gateway, etc... manually, it says that I'm connected, but I can't ping0find any other computer or router.
My machine is HP Pavilion DV5. I am running Vista Home Premium as host and installed Fedora 10 as guest using Vmware Workstation 6.5.3 B185404. I am using wireless connection for Vista and use NAT for Fedora (as default). I cannot connect to the internet in Fedora. Is it because of the issue of driver for the wireless card in Fedora, not sure, coz Fedora just uses connection through the host right? I need to download packages and use for my program.

Why is this............I can connect to internet directly by enabling network icon on right topmost corner. Even doing so dosen't guarantee connection at times. What could be wrong here ? Also my network icon shows it is disconnected whenever I start my computer. Cant fedora 11 just connect to the internet while it boots ?
