Always when i attempt to download any software, an error message opens stating that adobe 8 cannot read it. when saved in downloads clicking open does not function and i cant find an uninstall for the adobe reader 8. I cannot get any anit-virus protection, problem compounded by having no cd input.

I'm at a lost right now, I tried researching to find a possible reason, but I'm coming up short. I have a dual boot laptop with both fedora core 12 and windows7. Could there be a conflict between the two drives? I have the YUM extender on my linux drive performing the updates for me. I tried doing a YUM update via the terminal viewer, but I still get the same message.Any ideas as to why I'm getting this message, or how to fix this problem?

I downloaded Adobe Air, both the rpm and the .bin versions. First I tried the rpm, it went through the motions of installing but just disappeared. then I tied the .bin, got tot the installer, accepted the license, entered my root password, but it stopped installing with "an error occurred. Adobe AIR could not be installed. Install either Gnome Keyring or KDE KWallet before installing Adobe AIR". I opened Kwallet and tried again, but to no avail. I am running OS11.4 64 bit. What can I do to get this thing working?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI downloaded opensuse from opensuse.org(the DVD), and when I tried to install it gave me an error message. When I saw the file on the mirror, it was 4.7 G, but when I burned it, I did notice it was only 4.2 Gs.
I tried another download and again it was only 4.2 Gs, how or where can I obtain a working installable DVD of OpenSuse?
Okay, so bear with me for the lack of detail, its 3:46am and I'm really a beginner at this. So here is my issue: I decided I wanted to try Linux, so i got a Disc Image of Opensuse 11.3. while burning this disc image to a DVD-R I had no issues. But after the Validation was done an error appeared stating the disc Image was not burnt due to some error (apologies for not paying too close attention here) although the entire burn completed without issue. So I closed it and figured I would try again with another Disk when i get one.
Well as it turns out I did burn the Disc Image, and decided to try the Install. I have previously installed Ubuntu a few times and figured it was just as easy.. so I restarted my computer and booted from the CD. went through the Installation up to the Partition part.. This kind of confused me at first but I eventually got that it wanted to shrink my existing windows partition in order to make room. so i went along with it and began the install. well about halfway through the installation error messages kept showing telling me there were missing Packs. after about 10 messages I aborted the install for fear of what would happen now i have a shrunken partition and i dont know how to fix or what to do. I would still like to install opensuse but i dont have anymore DVD-R's and my Flash drive is too small. I will try to provide any info i can upon request. Oh, I forgot to mention im Running windows 7. if that helps at all which I doubt it does. I can safely access windows, nothing happened to the information on my drive. Im just missing 50GB of space now.

I can use Ubuntu from my flash drive, but I want to install it in a partition alongside windows. When I try to do this, I come to an 'allocate drive space' window, but whatever I do I get the error message: 'No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu.' I just don't know what this means, or what to do next. I'm loathe to ditch windows, and I don't want to have to use a flashdrive all the time.

Actually I have already installed the QT4 with the highest version correctly even I can used the QT UI for programming now. But still I faced the problem of lack of libraries afterwards.

While installing fedora 14 from DVD, during the installing process started half way, the error message appear on the screen " The file ed-1.4-2.fc14.i686.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source. " I have download the fedora 14 iso twice the same problem i got while installing. I install fedora 10 or 11 it install successfully.

Anyway, I set up ICS, it didn't work, so I undid what I had done from the tutorial, I also cleared IPTable rules, but now I still get error messages as you can see on the attachments.
I am using lucid. it works fine for some day & suddenly freezes .then on rebooting it shows "read error" . if tried to boot from live cd it just stuck on blinking cursor. but if i removed "battery cell" from motherboard & then rebooted after some time sometime I can boot again. What is this error mean? When I installed fedora yesterday, I was prompted to setup a root user password, which I did. I also need to install schockwave player and it is the same.
I create a link to a file in order to open the file from the desktop. When I move the link from the file location to the desktop, the file is opended in read-only mode. How can I change this so that the file opens in regular mode so that I am able to edit contents? The file in question is an open office spreadsheet.

I'm on Slackware 13.0. I downloaded the tar file for Adobe flash player (install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz) to my /tmp.
But when I invoke "tar -xzvf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz" all I get is a file libflashplayer.so in the same /tmp directory.
I was expecting a folder with the same name and more than the one file in it.
I'm trying to setup a keyboard-command to open my downloads folder. Simple enough. To get things started off I did $ gnome-open /home/user (my name where user is) and it opens my user home directory. But when I get to adding downloads to the end of it it gives me this $ gnome-open /home/user/downloads Error showing url: Error stating file '/home/User/downloads': No such file or directory As far as I can tell there is most obviously a downloads directory in my user folder. I also get this error when trying to open any other home folder, like music, or pictures.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install CentOS 5.5 on an old Pentium 4 desktop PC I have, which is not being used for much other than being a MTA, and I want to migrate this functionality onto the CentOS platform for stability (Windows is a perpetual nightmare. I partitioned a spare 20GB to experiment with, and I want to install CentOS into here to play around with first so I can move my files around between Windows and CentOS, until I'm happy all of the stuff is gone, then I can scrub the Windows partition and claim the space for CentOS.
So, I've downloaded and burned the DVD and tried to install. I start the install with no args from the main install menu, and the process goes through some probing and then comes up with the "Welcome to CentOS" menu. I go through this, and then it tries to start X Server. It fails, and falls back to text mode. I get the "Welcome to CentOS" screen again, and then proceed through it. I set my keyboard layout to UK, then this message comes up at the bottom of the screen:
"_X11TransSocketINETConnect() can't get address for localhost:6001: Temporary failure in name resolution"
then on the next line: "Cannot open display :1" If I force the install to text, by typing "linux text" at the first menu, I get about the same way through, but the install just hangs doing nothing, and no disc access to the install disc.
I have recently got a new computer, and I have been trying to install openSUSE 10.3 on it. But, the screen will go blank and become unresponsive if I boot with the default options. When I switch to text mode, it boot and stops when it outputs time: pit clocksource has been installed. Switching to safe settings will make no difference. Right now, I am using openSUSE 11.1, but I'm not very happy with it, so I intend to replace it with 10.3. I'm not sure what the pit clocksource is, and can it be disabled, or some workaround?
