I bought this adapter today but my computer running on Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't recognize the CD.
How do I get this work?
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my thinkpad t30 and I can't get my usb wireless adapter to work. My adapter is a wusb54gc v3 from linksy's. My kernel is a 2.6.35-22-generic.

Hey, I'm just set up my first Linux machine running openSUSE 11.4 and I'm not sure where to get the drivers for a Linksys WUSB54GC USB wifi card. I've read about using ndiswrapper to use the Windows driver, is this the best route?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've searched google and read quite a few threads on the the topic of installing the new enhanced rt73-k2wrlz.3.03 driver and modprobe my rt73usb driver but I'm running into a road block here when I get these messages after I run sudo make install.I have attached a screenshot.I have already run sudo aptitude.Sudo aptitude safe-upgrade.Sudo aptitude install linux headers.
***Update /etc/modprobe.d/ralink alias for wlan*
***Install firmware in /lib/firmware...
***Check old config
Is it having problems locating the firmware; How do I update the alias.I can get online to learn. Something to not is I've tried blacklisting the drivers before installation and also after. This time I still havent modprobed rt73 from following this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1178790 nor have I plugged in my Wireless adapter during the installation phase yet.
I am closing this thread and ask this question in the "Network and Wireless" area. As for the installation of 10.04 - wonderful. However, my problem is not an installation problem. Ubuntu 10.04 - Fresh install on machine with no previous OS it was a beautiful install experience. I have a Linksys WUSB54GC little plug in thing that is in one of the USB ports At the top of the screen it says that the computer is connected to the network genevapubliclibrary 100%
But when I access firefox, there is no internet connection. I checked the Preferences, Advanced, Network tab, Connection and the Settings button. It is set to "No Proxy". This is the same setting as our library laptop - also wireless - in firefox but using vista. If this has been addressed elsewhere, I apologize. I tried looking for linksys wusb54gc but no one had this problem.

Previously I had my desktop hooked up to a nearby router via an ethernet cord with my parents' computer having a wireless usb adapter to connect (This thing: [uRL]). We just moved and our setup has reversed (router is near their computer, I am using the usb adapter). I just installed the latest Ubuntu and now I can't get the usb adapter to work. I'm very new to Linux and I have no idea what to do. I think this is the same usb adapter.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI actually wasn't even trying to install the adapter which is the funny thing, I just finally got around to installing mandriva 2010 on my desktop and happened to have the adapter already hooked up to a usb port for my windows installation. When I got done with the installation to my amazement it got recognized and I didn't have to do a thing!
I looked into installing the adapter on my laptop which already had mandriva 2010 on it and gave up cause I didn't find any post's here that addressed the issue very well. Just thought I would pass it along for anyone who want's to try this on there computer.

Tried startup with device connected, no success.
Read some threads which generally correspond to version 2 of the device.
It probably uses Ralink chipset(cmiiw). I neither have Rt73 nor prism2_usb installed, confirmed by lsmod.
I have a AE1000 wireless adapter and Ive been using it or about 4 months on windows xp. Yesterday I installed ubuntu 10.10 and it won't work It won't connect to the internet and won't even show signs that it is turned on.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed Suse 11.4 from the Gnome liveCD, and I "can" access my home network when it is unsecured, however, I can't access it when WEP is turned on. Now, I know that WEP is insecure but there are devices on the network that only supports WEP so the router settings can't be changed. Also just for testing purposes i have tried the WPA2 encryption method to no avail (dmesg reports that the connection timed out). The only encryption method that looks promising is the open-wep encryption. When trying to connect to the network (with open-wep turned on) I have performed a bit of checking to see what is going on, now I don't know much about in-depth linux and stuff but, below are the outputs from lsusb, dmesg, iwconfig, and ifconfig.

Ok so I tried to follow the directions here: [URL] However, I couldn't find 2010_0915_RT3572_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.2.tar.bz2. Instead, the closest I could find was 2011_0407_RT3070_RT3370_RT5370_RT5372_Linux_STA_V2 .5.0.2_DPO.bz2, so I tried it. I edited config.mk and rtusb_dev_id.c as chili555 advised. I tried to edit linux_rt.h, however, the only file I saw was rt_linux.h. I edited it according to chili555's post, message #7. I went back to the root directory of the extracted .bz2 file and did

I recently tried to install Crunchbang on my IBM Thinkpad T20 laptop. Everything went OK as far as I can tell (I still have to adjust acpi and display settings), but I cannot get my laptop to connect to the internet via wireless (wired connection works fine). I've done a good deal of searching online, and I realize that my wireless adapter (wpc54gs, bcm4318 chipset) is problematic in linux, and that b43-fwcutter is typically required. I did install b43-fwcutter, and it seemed to install OK, but nothing subsequently happened when I opened networkmanager. I'm not sure at this point if my problem is that I don't know how to configure any wireless adapter in crunchbang, or if it is that my particular adapter is not being recognized.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm not a new user to ubuntu but I'm stuck with a driver issue on a wireless adapter upgrade for ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx. I'm running an acer aspire am1201-e1622a with amd athlon x2 64 bit processor, however i'm only running the 32 bit version of lucid lynx. The following are a few outputs of some commands that might assist in finding the proper driver. Before though i will tell you what i have done.
I have installed a few different drivers from windows wireless driver installer such as the xp and vista 32 and 64 bit versions with no success in the computer actually recognizing that i have a wireless adapter installed. The windows wireless driver installer said that hardware was present but i was unable to scan for networks or even see that i had a choice to do that. This meaning that it didn't show i had wireless capabilities in my network manager. i tested this with gnome network manager which is the default manager for 10.04 and also with wicd with no success.
Following these tests i attempted to install a driver from source following the instructions on another forum. This allowed me to manually turn on the wireless adapter but i was still unable to find any networks. This meaning that wicd was able to see that i had a wireless adapter installed but it for some reason was unable to see any wireless networks around. I'm 100% sure my router is in range and that it is configured correctly. I have 5 other computers connect to this router along with some of them being ubuntu.

I got a wireless USB and I can't get it working. I bought it knowing it has Linux drivers (I want to stay as far away from ndiswrapper as possible) but I'm not having any luck.
Could anyone help me get it working?
I recently installed lucid Lynx in my laptop, everything works great except my WUSB54GC (v3) usb wireless adapter, the green light in the usb stick stays off and the OS don't recognize the USB either (i have been using it in WIN7 so i know its not broken)
reading previous post i tried the following:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Added a line
blacklist rt2800usb
after restart it was recognized but only worked for a little while (with download speeds about 30kbps and disconnecting every 30 min or so ) today it wasn't working at all
I have also tried installing the driver provided by linksys using the "windows wireless drivers" obtained by ubuntu software center, no luck there
