Debian Hardware :: Linksys WUSB54G V1 Just Not Work
May 13, 2010this card has notoriously horrible linux support; how to fix this and nobody ever seems to get it work. But it was working natively on ubuntu, so I know it can be done. I just don't know *how*. I downloaded the isl3890usb firmware, placed it in /usr/local/lib/firmware or whatever the path was in the guide. Soon after, iwconfig was giving me an interface! However it stopped working at this point. I tried iwlist wlan0 scan, but it always just says "no scan results." I manually configure everything and dhclient just tells me "no offers recieved." It appears to have an interface but is just not working at all. Where do I go from here?

Dec 14, 2010I have a Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter, 2.4 GHz, 802.11g. It hooks up through USB plug, and when I originally plugged it in I got the message that ubuntu didn't support the drivers, but haven't seen it since. I'm hooked up to a LAN cable right now, and can't seem to figure out how to hook up through wireless with this device. Or I just don't know how. When I click on the network connections button on the top right corner (the two computers). I can see my Wired Internet, but no wireless. When I type lsusb in a terminal I get : (sorry I don't know how to do code blocks) So it is recognizing that it's there, but maybe I just don't know how to use it. Also, I'm running Ubuntu Release 10.04 (lucid).

Sep 6, 2010I have a number of computers working just fine on my wireless network so I don't believe it is a router issue. I am running 10.04 on a dell gx280. I plug in the WUSB54g and ubuntu sees it and it connects to the internet just as it should. I can surf the internet thruough different browsers, and although a little sluggish, it works just fine. The problem is when I download a file. It starts out working as it should but continues to slow down to a crawl. Update manager had a 54MB update, it started out downloading, but then said it would take 2 hours so I just cancelled. I have several WUSB54g's and they all have the same issue. I changed to a different type of adapter, and the update manager only took a couple of minutes.

Aug 9, 2011I have installed Suse 11.4 from the Gnome liveCD, and I "can" access my home network when it is unsecured, however, I can't access it when WEP is turned on. Now, I know that WEP is insecure but there are devices on the network that only supports WEP so the router settings can't be changed. Also just for testing purposes i have tried the WPA2 encryption method to no avail (dmesg reports that the connection timed out). The only encryption method that looks promising is the open-wep encryption. When trying to connect to the network (with open-wep turned on) I have performed a bit of checking to see what is going on, now I don't know much about in-depth linux and stuff but, below are the outputs from lsusb, dmesg, iwconfig, and ifconfig.

It is the linksys WUSB54g V4, im assuming it runs on the rt2500 chipset,when im connected and working it runs fine, however if i try to let a download run, it generally will disconnect and require me to unplug the device and plug it back in to get it working again, i cant just reconnect if i do that it simply wont connect, im connecting to a linksys router with the most recent firmware i think its the wrt54g v7, its setup using a wpa personal password and im connected through manual entry of my ip address due to port forwarding for some of my games, however the same issue persists even when im connected through an automatic configuration.

We just moved and our setup has reversed (router is near their computer, I am using the usb adapter). I just installed the latest Ubuntu and now I can't get the usb adapter to work. I'm very new to Linux and I have no idea what to do. I think this is the same usb adapter.

Jun 20, 2009I'm having trouble getting my wifi devices to work on my 128bit WEP network. I have a new Thinkpad T400, with an internal Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN. I also have some cardbus cards: a Lucent ORiNOCO Gold, a Linksys Wireless-G, and a TRENDnet TEW-421PC. I have them set up as interfaces eth2, eth1, and eth3. (The TRENDnet isn't recognised as a network card at all, so no interface for it.) I have installed the latest firmware for the Linksys card.
The /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files are virtually identical for all of them, differing only in the HWADDR and DEVICE lines. So here's the behaviour:
1. The Lucent card comes up just fine.
2. The internal 5100AGN and the Linksys cards won't come up, and watching with iwconfig shows that they're either associated with my AP OR they've got an encryption key set -- but not both.
3. When trying to bring up the 5100AGN, I get the following messages:
iwlagn: index 0 not used in uCode key table
iwlagn: index 3 not used in uCode key table
/var/log/messages shows DHCPDISCOVER requests being sent, but they're bound to fail since the association with the AP with WEP isn't being completed. And yes, the ifcfg-* files really *are* identical except for the DEVICE and HWADDR lines. The /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file correctly maps the interfaces to the MAC addresses. So why does my antique ORiNOCO card work and thew newer ones fail? How can I track down what's being done wrong/not being done?

Read some threads which generally correspond to version 2 of the device.
It probably uses Ralink chipset(cmiiw). I neither have Rt73 nor prism2_usb installed, confirmed by lsmod.

Nov 11, 2010I actually wasn't even trying to install the adapter which is the funny thing, I just finally got around to installing mandriva 2010 on my desktop and happened to have the adapter already hooked up to a usb port for my windows installation. When I got done with the installation to my amazement it got recognized and I didn't have to do a thing!
I looked into installing the adapter on my laptop which already had mandriva 2010 on it and gave up cause I didn't find any post's here that addressed the issue very well. Just thought I would pass it along for anyone who want's to try this on there computer.

Jul 30, 2010I'm not a new user to ubuntu but I'm stuck with a driver issue on a wireless adapter upgrade for ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx. I'm running an acer aspire am1201-e1622a with amd athlon x2 64 bit processor, however i'm only running the 32 bit version of lucid lynx. The following are a few outputs of some commands that might assist in finding the proper driver. Before though i will tell you what i have done.
I have installed a few different drivers from windows wireless driver installer such as the xp and vista 32 and 64 bit versions with no success in the computer actually recognizing that i have a wireless adapter installed. The windows wireless driver installer said that hardware was present but i was unable to scan for networks or even see that i had a choice to do that. This meaning that it didn't show i had wireless capabilities in my network manager. i tested this with gnome network manager which is the default manager for 10.04 and also with wicd with no success.
Following these tests i attempted to install a driver from source following the instructions on another forum. This allowed me to manually turn on the wireless adapter but i was still unable to find any networks. This meaning that wicd was able to see that i had a wireless adapter installed but it for some reason was unable to see any wireless networks around. I'm 100% sure my router is in range and that it is configured correctly. I have 5 other computers connect to this router along with some of them being ubuntu.

Feb 11, 2010I recently tried to install Crunchbang on my IBM Thinkpad T20 laptop. Everything went OK as far as I can tell (I still have to adjust acpi and display settings), but I cannot get my laptop to connect to the internet via wireless (wired connection works fine). I've done a good deal of searching online, and I realize that my wireless adapter (wpc54gs, bcm4318 chipset) is problematic in linux, and that b43-fwcutter is typically required. I did install b43-fwcutter, and it seemed to install OK, but nothing subsequently happened when I opened networkmanager. I'm not sure at this point if my problem is that I don't know how to configure any wireless adapter in crunchbang, or if it is that my particular adapter is not being recognized.

Jul 10, 2011I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 and for several days have tried many, many different ways of installing my Linksys WPC 11 wireless card into my IBM Thinkpad T30 laptop.
I have got the wireless working by installing Ubuntu 8 and then upgrading to the current version, and I would assume some drivers are currently installed.
As usual though, the signal drops out after only a few minutes and I have to keep re-booting the laptop to continue what I'm doing.

Jan 24, 2011I'm having some trouble connecting to the wireless network here at home. The PC has a Linksys WMP600N wireless network card, which works fine under several versions of Windows. In Opensuse however, I cannot get it to find the network. Even though my laptop is right next to it, which has perfect connection to the network. The router is a Linksys WRT610N.
I've tried running iwconfig and iwlist scan in the terminal, but the scan returns no results and iwconfig indicates it does not have a connection to a network. I've turned off IPv6 as I read this can sometimes cause issues. I've also tried issuing the computer a static IP address, figuring the DHCP might be causing problems, but all to no avail.

Feb 8, 2010I've got an old laptop wich wireless adapter is a Gigabyte GN-WI01 GS MINI PCI(its chipset is Realtek RTL8169/8110, I believe) and I'm not able to make it run in Wifislax 3.1 Live CD. I downloaded the linux drivers for it and tried to install them following the instructions but when it came the time to execute configure.sh it told me that I had to actualize some kind of packets first(GK+ or something like that can't remember ). I also have another wireless usb adapter that I tried to use too. It's a Linksys WUSB54g v4(chipset: rt2570). I tried to follow a guide I found about making run an adapter like that on Wifislax 3.1 but when I had to "Force ralink rt73 on rt2500" it doesn't appear on my Live CD version, it appears "Force ralink rt73 on rt2570", dunno if it has something to be but I get an error while making it.
I don't know if it has to be with my laptop, my wireless adapters or my way of following the steps. If it has to be with my adapters I would like to buy some new one(not very expensive) that I won't have any problems running it on Wifislax and that will work on my old laptop(cause I just have that one and can't afford a new one).
Ubuntu Networking :: Get Wireless Network Adapter To Be Read By 'Windows Wireless Drivers'
Nov 24, 2010I recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal
