Ubuntu Networking :: How To Install WUSB54GC V3 Wireles Adapter On 10.10
Nov 9, 2010
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my thinkpad t30 and I can't get my usb wireless adapter to work. My adapter is a wusb54gc v3 from linksy's. My kernel is a 2.6.35-22-generic.
I got a wireless USB and I can't get it working. I bought it knowing it has Linux drivers (I want to stay as far away from ndiswrapper as possible) but I'm not having any luck.
I recently installed lucid Lynx in my laptop, everything works great except my WUSB54GC (v3) usb wireless adapter, the green light in the usb stick stays off and the OS don't recognize the USB either (i have been using it in WIN7 so i know its not broken)
reading previous post i tried the following:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Added a line
blacklist rt2800usb
after restart it was recognized but only worked for a little while (with download speeds about 30kbps and disconnecting every 30 min or so ) today it wasn't working at all
I have also tried installing the driver provided by linksys using the "windows wireless drivers" obtained by ubuntu software center, no luck there
I have a Asus N13-usb adapter and i am running ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop. I tried all those commands that you have posted but it led me nowhere. I was wondering if you can help me start off from scratch. I have typed lsub and it showed the device. I followed this thread [URL]and i did it up the part where you downloaded the driver. but i was not able to go further once i typed in the command :
I started yesterday off wanting to install this USB wifi adapter on my PC (which is mini-itx so has additional pci slots) [URL] it has the Ralink 3070 chipset. I tried everything I found when googling, nothing came close to working, this was in Fedora12. So I gave up and installed Ununtu 10.04, hoping for better luck there. Ubuntu will recognise the presence of a wifi adapter, here's the output from iwconfig
[Code]....
But it sees no wifi networks and generally won't do anything; I don't think it has the right driver. Rosewill does list a (linux) driver and so does Ralink, but again, neither of these come close to working. has anyone gotten this adapter or chipset to work in ubuntu?
I have been struggled with wireless connection. Here is the things... My room doesn't have moduler jack. So basically my landlord is sharing with his wifi. Also, my desktop is using Netgear wireless adapter for internet. My laptop and desktop are windows 7 which can conncet with internet very well. But my Linux Os in my desktop couldn't conncet. Recently I installed ubuntu because my co-worker told me ubuntu can be applied to connect with internet through wireless.
However, how can my ubuntu os get wireless connection without ethernet cable. Actually, my harddisk drive is multiple boot containing windows 7, Ubuntu, and Centos. Windows 7 can connect internet smoothly. But you know, Ubuntu and Centos can't do nothing. So I am stacking this situation not to connect internet through Linux OS right now.
Im currently unable to install a wireless USB network adapter because it requires an installation which can only be done with a cd and im not sure how to install the software to run the wireless adapter.
Was wondering if anyone had a idea on how to install this wireless adapter onto a computer thats running Ubuntu. I don't have access to a direct connection so that won't work. So I need a way that I could install it without internet, I do have access to another computer that i could get files off of if needed.
I installed Fedora 11 last night, and it seemed to go OK. The trouble is, I cannot get a wireless connection to the internet. The system seems to recognize my wireless USB adapter, but the buttons to activate the device remain grayed-out no matter what I try. I ran through all of the steps in the help menu (still grayed-out); I tried deleting and adding the device (no go); I tried to run the installation disk that came with the USB adapter (wouldn't run); I pulled the drivers off of the installation disk (Fedora couldn't recognize the file type); I changed it from "wlan" to "eth0" to "eth1"... but still no love!
This doesn't seem like a problem between the adapter and the router... the USB adapter and my PC can see each other, but can't "talk" to each other.

how to install D-link dwm-152 (3G/HSDPA) usb adapter on Lucid Lynx?
i've run lsusb and the result are:
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0a5c:2162 Broadcom Corp. Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
I have a laptop that I don't use anymore so I figured I would use it for trying to get used to the command line in Linux. The lspci line for my WiFi adapter is:
When I run iwconfig to see if my adapter is getting picked up I only get an output for the loopback interface and my Ethernet port. I installed the following packages which I thought would be enough to get it working:
Quote: b43-fwcutter, broadcom-sta-common and broadcom-sta-source
I was able to get it working in a regular Ubuntu installation, but it doesn't seem to pick it up in this install. Does anyone have any tips/advice? I went with the minimal install because I wanted to see how lightweight I can get the OS.
I really want to drop Windows, but wireless connectivity and frequent crashes are really discouraging me. I have a dual-boot W XP with Ubuntu 10.10. I do not have the computer on, so I'm writing this from my weak memory USB Adapter - Netgear WNDA3100-100NAS = v2 The adapter works under W XP with no problems The router, Linksys WRT54G sees the adapter in the dhcp table lsusb lists the adapter.
I have copied the drivers from the install CD onto the desktop. I cannot figure out how to install or access those drivers for the installation. I tried to install the ndiswrapper from the software center, but the center shows it's available from the "main" source. I've looked in the package manager, but can't find it. When I go into terminal, and enter one of the suggested commands in the forums, it can't be located. I have a Belkin F5D8010 installed on this computer, and it works great under W XP. I want to try to get this installed, but until I can figure out installation of the ndiswrapper and how to access it, and get the drivers recognized, I'm at a standstill.
Installed ubuntu with dual boot Vista and installed wireless driver in ubuntu , so far so good, all accesible wireless networks comes up in the wireless list but when i want to connect to my own network it wil not accept the password and doesn't connect...
I am a complete novice when it comes to Linux. I have just installed Debian 5 and i would like to get the wireless adapter working. I have a Ralink RT2070 54Mbs Wireless USB Adapter and the driver disk. What are the steps/commands i must follow to install the driver please?
I would like to know whether ldap can be used to authenticate wireless clients with my server.server and clients are connected to a wireless router and i am able to get wireless adapter work in my ubuntu. Is there any anything extra which is required or the openldap server will work for wireless clients?
I have a USB WiFi adapter that my Ubuntu desktop install (10.10) automatically detects, and it works great. I just used the alternate installer to set up an old box as a server, and it doesn't install the driver for the adapter. lsusb finds the adapter, but I don't get a wlan* listed in /dev/. how I can determine what module(s) are used to run this adapter on the desktop so I can load them on the older box? Or is there some package I should install from the CD to help auto-detect the adapter?
I have ndiswrapper installed, and have successfully installed the drivers, I have also used nm-applet (and x forwarding) to configure wireless connections. My problem is that I want to reboot and unplug my wired connection and use just my wireless connection, but when I reboot it doesn't seem to connect to my network.
is there a command line tool or an independent tool that i can launch forwarding x I can use to search for and connect to wifi networks that would also have the ability to save configuration so that when I reboot the system automatically connects to my wifi?
I've searched google and read quite a few threads on the the topic of installing the new enhanced rt73-k2wrlz.3.03 driver and modprobe my rt73usb driver but I'm running into a road block here when I get these messages after I run sudo make install.I have attached a screenshot.I have already run sudo aptitude.Sudo aptitude safe-upgrade.Sudo aptitude install linux headers.
***Update /etc/modprobe.d/ralink alias for wlan* ***Install firmware in /lib/firmware... ***Check old config
Is it having problems locating the firmware; How do I update the alias.I can get online to learn. Something to not is I've tried blacklisting the drivers before installation and also after. This time I still havent modprobed rt73 from following this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1178790 nor have I plugged in my Wireless adapter during the installation phase yet.
I am closing this thread and ask this question in the "Network and Wireless" area. As for the installation of 10.04 - wonderful. However, my problem is not an installation problem. Ubuntu 10.04 - Fresh install on machine with no previous OS it was a beautiful install experience. I have a Linksys WUSB54GC little plug in thing that is in one of the USB ports At the top of the screen it says that the computer is connected to the network genevapubliclibrary 100%
But when I access firefox, there is no internet connection. I checked the Preferences, Advanced, Network tab, Connection and the Settings button. It is set to "No Proxy". This is the same setting as our library laptop - also wireless - in firefox but using vista. If this has been addressed elsewhere, I apologize. I tried looking for linksys wusb54gc but no one had this problem.
Hey, I'm just set up my first Linux machine running openSUSE 11.4 and I'm not sure where to get the drivers for a Linksys WUSB54GC USB wifi card. I've read about using ndiswrapper to use the Windows driver, is this the best route?
I just purchased Buffalo Nfiniti Wireless USB Adapter (WLI-UC-GN) but have no idea how to get it to work in Ubuntu. My previous adapter (a D-Link) just had to be plugged in and it was ready to go. The WLI-UC-GN adapter lights up (stays solid though), but no wireless networks are found. I believe Ubuntu sees the adapter, it just isn't working with Ubuntu.
I have read a few other posts but them a little confusing. If any one could please help me and keep it simple (I'm fairly new to Ubuntu); I would be grateful. By the way, I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10 last night hoping I am also using WICD Network Manager because I heard it's better than the native manager.
