General :: Doesnt Recognise My Floppy Drive - Cant Install My Printer A Samsung ML4500 Laser

I have recently installed linux 'uberstudent'and find it doesnt recognise my floppy drive but more importantly I cant install my printer a samsung ML4500 laser. There are readme files (reproduced below) but I just dont know enough about the system to know what to do with them " does it mean anything to anyone ? I am a bit reluctant to experiment with terminal incase I mess up the entire system ! also could their be a connection between this and the floppy not working ?
1.AUTORUN will not run
2.clicking cdsetup.exe and selecting 'open with archive manager' results in : 'an error occured while loading the archive'
3.clicking cdsetup.exe and selecting 'open with wine windows programe loader' results in 'samsung printer setup window'etc, and it appears to load normally until 'PROGRAM ERROR 'DAC1.EXE encountered problems and has to be closed.

The situation:At my workplace there is a shared printer installed in WINDOWS. It's installed also in my windows system(WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE version 7600). It's working very well. From windows I shared it to have the option for printing from openSuSE 11.3. In Samba I can see the other colleagues connected to the same workplace network. I shared also the printer with Samba.I can see it.
The problem :The printer doesn't work.I can't find a opensuSE11.3 driver for it (Samsung CLX 3170 FN).The question 1:Is it really need a properly driver for it if it installed in windows? The question 2:How can I make printing from openSuSE11.3 with the shared installed in windows server printer? Steps done:in MS Win system I shared ,I noted the WORKGROUP,the PC name and the IP for the printer. //ALso I know the domain and my IP.well done in resolv.conf,in fact I have internet connection from openSuSE 11.3,no problem,e-mail/evolution and kmail are working very well,configured both for the workplace). Now in openSuSE what should I do? I need some advices/right steps) about configuring this printer USING few ways(Samba,Printer config from YAST etc) because I am thinking somehow I did something wrong. When I make print test page the printer make the noise is preparing but nothing is happening. I believe that maybe the driver missing is the problem. BUT ONCE AGAIN,it's installed in my PC in Windows system,/I have dual boot system/GRUB MANAGER/openSuSE and Windows 7 Ultimate 7 7600. Can I work with the printer via internet/network //Samba/CUPS/etc,etc with localhost /IP,or other way if I DON'T have a driver for openSuSE
I am having a Promise TX4650 RAID controller & trying to create a driver floppy for installing the drivers. Also am using RHEL 5, I can create the driver floppy, but when I type "mount /dev/fd0 /media/floppy" I get error: "mount: mount point /media/floppy does not exist".Can I get the files in a format other than the ext2 floppy image, so that we do not need to use a floppy drive?There is a readme file inside the driver archive & you can use that as a reference.
I have Fedora 11 and am trying to install Brother HL-2170W Wireless laser printer. I installed it and used CPUS but cannot print. SELinux is enabled. On Brothers site there is an FAQ about SELinux and CUPS. [URL] I followed these instructions but still cannot print. Jobs get queued. Under Printer properties -> Policies, there is an Enabled checked. For some reason when I check this Enabled box and click Apply, the changes do not take effect. Then Enabled checkbox gets uncheck again.
I cannot even print a test page as its status shows Pending.
Using Fedora 14. Printer usb connected and recognised with correct driver: Foomatic/PXL mono (Recomended). Will not print test page or anything else. Nothing seen in print queue.Iinitially choked by SElinux (since deleted). Still not working.
i have custom programs written in Basis pro5. Standard output to a pdf virtual printer works fine. Using pdftk to overlay on to a form is hit or miss.... There are products out there like Unform that are just too expensive for my company. i have purchased another product from a company that prints the forms to the laser perfectly but i am incapable of capturing them and saving them as pdf's for archiving/emailing/faxing and i don't much care for this company.
I have migrated from Debian to Fedora 14 (2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64). Problem is that I can't get my networked printer to work (which it did with Debian). The printer is Samsung ML-3561ND and I got all he drivers & PPD from Samsung support. I prefer to install the printer with CUPS and not with Samsung Unified Linux install software. I have to send my documents to a user's Windows workstation and print from there I have googled a lot but have not found any solution.
How can I install Samsung's ML-1710 printer driver? I've already tried using Samsung's "Unified Linux Driver" from their website. Unfortunately, it does not work; while the installation program claims to "install" the needed driver, all attempts (including local) to print using that ML-1710 printer & printer driver set fail.
It's noteworthy that I can print on the ML-1710 printer, over the network, from both windows and other Linux (Ubuntu) workstations.
I am trying to install a driver for my scx4200. Ubuntu found this driver automatically but openSUSE 11.4 (64bit) does not. I have the manufacturers Cd with a Linux folder on it but if I run "autorun" in terminal it says permission denied. I have copied the files to a new folder on my hard drive but do not know how to run "autorun" in terminal with sudo. I switched to openSUSE because Ubuntu 11.4 kept freezing. SUSE does seem much better.
I have just purchased a new Samsung ML1860 printer and I can't get it to work. Samsung provide a driver at their web site, UnifiedLinuxDriver 0.95.tar.gz I downloaded this file onto my harddrive, but I can't seem to get it to install. Instructions received said to open a terminal and type: $ sudo cdroot/autorun This did not work. etsah57@etsah57-KZ208AA-ABG-m9385a:~$ $ sudo cdroot/autorun $: command not found
I then tried to add the appropriate steps to where the file is on my harddrive etsah57@etsah57-KZ208AA-ABG-m9385a:~$ $ sudo Colin/08.downloads/Samsung/cdroot/autorun $: command not found This didn't work either.

I then found this instruction "Download and extract the driver [root@localhost root]#tar xzf [Downloaded File Name(XXXX.tar.gz)]"etsah57@etsah57-KZ208AA-ABG-m9385a:~$ [root@localhost root]#tar xzf unifiedLinuxDriver_0.95.tar.gz [root@localhost: command not found This hasn't worked either.
Is there something weird about the FLOPPY DRIVE on F12? Nothing associated with it works & I can't get an icon for it. Also the FLOPPY FORMATTER no longer works. (mine is an internal drive)- I had some really miner quirks with it in 10 but it worked. I had some workaround launchers that I used until an upgrade semi-fixed it. (It would give a false error that it couldn't run but did. I just ignored it.)
I tried to edit FSTAB to cure a problem of my BACKUP drive showing up twice*** so while I was in there I added the stuff for the floppy & it still doesn't work. If I try to mount it manually, I get the error that /dev/fd0 doesn't exist.I tried to find some info on it & it SEEMS that there MAY be a bug but I'm not sure as the info is a bit confusing as to just what version & such they are talking about. And there was also the problem that all the stuff seemed to be OLD or not related to my problem.I why I quite hacking at my system, is that all my workaround launchers & the formatter say that there are GNOME things missing & they can't run. So I figure that there is something missing or screwy already & that I'd better ask BEFORE I make things worse or actually break something.With the fact that floppies are about gone, it's getting to be not that big of a deal but I still find myself having to use them for repair purposes (albeit, not as much) & it gets to be a bit of a pain to fire up M$ just to do something like this.
*** It appears that the one in FSTAB was the one I needed, so where would the OTHER one be so I can get rid of it? Or at least make it auto mount.
so i have a limited user (my dad) on Jaunty who has no write access to his floppy disks. Nautilus gives a permission denied error, and i discovered that root owns the floppy drive, thus allowing his read-only. (that write tab on the floppy in on btw). However, when i login as a admin, nautilus says that user has write access. ??? I check the user's user privliges and everything exept "administer the system" is checked. I can copy files on it by logging in as root.
my printer is not listed the type of drivers it mentions to download in plug and play.the drivers listed dont come close to the number(465cn).I have a brother mfc-465cnwhere do i find the drivers that will be compatible. generic diver listed didnt work or other numbers listed under the 'brother' or 'mfc' brandI went to the open printer website and my printer isnt listed there either. just brother and some other mfc's but nothing near what my printer is.

I have a USB drive on which I want to install Arch Linux (using the installer, not unetbootin or something similar, as I want the drive to be persistent.) The computer from which I want to boot this USB supports booting from a USB floppy, not a normal drive. Is there any way for me to make a USB floppy on another drive and use that to boot the normal USB drive?

I'm looking for a low cost mono laser printer that just works under Ubuntu. I know that a general 'rule of thumb' is go with HP, but that doesn't seem to be the case with their low-end mono printers, as they use the XQX Stream Protocol instead of Postscript. The more expensive HP printers appear to work because they use Postscript.
I am using Lucid 10.04 and don't plan to change until support is dropped. I am looking to buy a multifunction monochromatic laser printer.
I was considering Samsung SCX-4828FN or HP LaserJet M1522NF. Both have network cards and support for Linux, but I am a little leery of the Samsung's support in Lucid. Does anyone have this printer? It seems to me a better choice if it works, because the toner is quite a bit more economical and I print quite a a lot.
My only requirements are all-in-one scanner/printer, economical, network card, proven to work.
I am using slackware 13 and cups is working OK. i installed the printer HP laser jet 1018 USB printer through localhost:631. it seems installed correctly but when i send test print there is no output.2nd thing i want to share that printer to some other windows machine on network so they can also use that printer

Using ubuntu 10.04 a dell 1320 colour laser printer. I have been using a xerox driver for this but it will only printer from the single sheet feeder and no the paper tray. It works fine with XP and windows driver. I know that there is not a dedicated driver for linux but is there one which will work correctly and how do I install it?
LaserJet Pro CP1525NW. HP website mentions that it is compatible with Linux. However, this particular model cannot be found at Linux Foundation's OpenPrinting Database. As you can see here, there is no mention of HP LaserJet Pro CP1525N which makes me worried. Also, the printer is not listed in HP Linux imaging and printing.
What are your thoughts and do you have experience with this printer? What other Color Laser printer do you recommend? The fact that the that printer's specification on HP website says that it is compatible with Linux, yet it is not listed on HPLIP nor in Openprinting makes me nervious.
Just purchased new del 1320cn printer and unfortunatly ubuntu doesn't see it. I tried the Foomatic system as well, which does see the printer and identifies it but does not show the model number in the list.
Any help would be really good. My other Del 1110 mono laser worked first time!
If any terminal commands reqd, please could you be kind enough to list them as I get confused using terminal.

I have a recently purchased Brother HL-3040CN printer that I had been using under Windows XP. I'm hoping to use it on openSUSE 11.2 64-bit. Having consulted SDB:Installing a Printer - openSUSE I ran lpinfo -l -m | grep HL-3040CN as su... evidently this model is not supported.The Brother site Brother Solutions Center : Brother Driver for Linux Distributions seems to suggest maybe there is hope. I am relatively new to Linux.
