General :: Drivers - Unable To Activate Wireless After Device Has Been Re-enabled

May 8, 2010

Using a Eee 900A netbook by Asus. By pressing Fn + F2, I can disable or enable the wireless chip on the netbook, a blue LED indicates the status. I've been able to connect to wireless networks just fine with this netbook. However, if the wireless chip ever becomes disabled, I have to reboot to get my network connection back. This generally happens when suspending. For some reason the LED will be off and I have to hit Fn + F2 for it to light up again.

However, after doing so, Linux will not reconnect to the network. It simply changes the wireless status from "wireless is disabled" to "device not ready". Even worse, I've recently had issues with the chip being enabled at boot, thus making it nearly impossible to get connected. I've searched around on-line but haven't found much of anything useful on this. This happens on all kinds of different distros including Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook, EeeBuntu 4 beta, Jolicloud and Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook.

Ubuntu :: Wireless Drivers Won't Activate

Oct 8, 2010

I recently installed Linux for the first time because my Dell Inspiron 1525 got a virus and would not boot windows anymore. Everything works great. The only thing is that no my internal wireless card won't work and when I try to activate the drivers they just freeze. I have Linux Mint 8 Helena. I go to Menu-->Administration--> Hardware Drivers and attempt to activate the Broadcom STA and the screen just freezes. I have tried this several times with no luck. The wireless card I'm using is Broadcom BCM94312MCG. Here are some screenshots: [IMG]file:///home/adam/Desktop/Screenshot-Hardware%20Drivers.png[/IMG]

The last screenshot is what it freezes on after I hit activate on either driver. It won't even close when I hit cancel. I always have to log off just to get rid of it. [IMG]file:///home/adam/Desktop/Screenshot-Hardware%20Drivers.png[/IMG]

Ubuntu Networking :: Activate Wireless Drivers With No Ethernet Connection?

Sep 26, 2010

I'm been wanting to try Ubuntu for a while now, and when my mom's netbook started to get insanely slow with WinXP, I tried the Netbook Remix on a USB stick. I LOVE it, except I am unable to get the wireless working, which is the only thing stopping me right now from a full install.

I believe my problem is that I need to activate the two drivers "Broadcom B43 wireless driver" and "Broadcom STA wireless driver" which appear as unactivated when I go into the hardware drivers admin tools. Unfortunately this netbook (HP Mini Netbook FW376UA) does not have an Ethernet port, so I can't just temporarily hard wire it to activate these drivers.

So my main questions are: 1) How can I activate those drivers without an internet connection?, and 2) Do you think that activating these drivers is indeed the answer to getting the wireless working?

The details:
Machine: HP Mini Netbook FW376UA
Network Controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g
Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Activate Broadcom STA Wireless Driver?

Feb 4, 2010

I am using Linux Mint 8 Helena x64 Edition on Dell Studio 15 laptop which has Dell 1520 Wireless-N Mini Card. It does work when I boot from Live CD of Helena, connect to a wired network and download & install the proprietary drivers when prompted. But on the installed system, I am unable to activate the Broadcom STA driver. I tried completely removing and then reinstalling bcmwl-kernel-source and dkms packages from package manager. When I go to Administration -> Hardware Drivers and click on Activate for Broadcom driver, at first there used to be a window which said Downloading and it used to go away after few seconds and nothing used to happen. Then I installed few updates. At the time of writing, I have installed all the available updates. Now after clicking on Activate, I get this error :

Code:
Sorry, installation of this driver failed.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Activate Wireless ( Sta Driver Broken )?

Jul 29, 2011

for over at week i have been trying to get my wireless card to work now. If i open Additional drivers, the non proprietary driver seems to be working and active. If i deactivate that and use the STA driver instead, it says active, but currently not in use. When i use the non proprietary driver, i can check mark on 'activate wireless', but nothing happens. When i use the STA driver there are no wireless options. I'm not sure if its important, but when i do "sudo lshw -C network" when the STA driver is active but not in use, the network status changes from 'disabled' to 'unclaimed'. When i came here, i tried to install "firmware-b43-lpphy-installer" as the sticky said i should, but the installation fails. It says my card is not supported: "Not supported card here (PCI id 14e4:4727)!"

Fedora Networking :: Can't "activate" Wireless Device WUSB54GC?

Sep 23, 2009

I installed Fedora 11 last night, and it seemed to go OK. The trouble is, I cannot get a wireless connection to the internet. The system seems to recognize my wireless USB adapter, but the buttons to activate the device remain grayed-out no matter what I try. I ran through all of the steps in the help menu (still grayed-out); I tried deleting and adding the device (no go); I tried to run the installation disk that came with the USB adapter (wouldn't run); I pulled the drivers off of the installation disk (Fedora couldn't recognize the file type); I changed it from "wlan" to "eth0" to "eth1"... but still no love!

This doesn't seem like a problem between the adapter and the router... the USB adapter and my PC can see each other, but can't "talk" to each other.

Info:
PC - Dell Optiplex GX50 (circa 2001)
OS - Fedora 11
USB adapter - Linksys WUSB54GC
Wireless Router - Linksys WRT54G (reflashed with dd.wrt)

General :: Atheros AR5007EG Wireless In 13 64bit - How To Activate It

May 30, 2010

I now have a working (almost!) Slackware 13 install on my Samsung R60+ laptop "startx" gets me into KDE no problems, so there's a reasonably familiar GUI to muck around in, but I think that I'll need help getting the wireless networking going. It would be nice to do this in KDE, but I don't think it's going to be possible at the moment. Running netconfig was confusing, as I've never had to do it before. So imagine if you will:

I've just booted Slackware. I'm sitting, logged in as root for the time being, at the command prompt. I'd like to get my wireless card (Atheros AR5007EG) working. Can anyone walk me through the commands I'll need to execute (bear in mind that I don't even know how to edit a config file yet) in order to get this thing on the internet? I've tried reading the docs (slackbook) and googling, but with no luck so far - I don't understand what they're on about! Win7 does this for me.

Feb 15, 2011

installing the PCI wireless card drivers in CentOS linux. I have "Sabrent PCI-G802 PCI Wireless Card - 54Mbps, 802.11g". I tried looking in google and tried multiple ways to install the driver but failed , I have followed the instructions given in the link i.e.
performed the following steps .....

1.# tar xvzf package.tar.gz (or tar xvjf package.tar.bz2)
2.# cd package
3.# ./configure
4.# make
5.# make install

I have the original cd (this cd has linux drivers also) which came with the PCI card but its not a plug and play cd like the MS windows, the cd drive is not reading the disk (But i can open it in windows 7). I copied the installation files from the cd to usb drive on my windows 7 PC and copied them on to the CentOS /home/user directory and performed the above mentioned steps. I was successful in getting till the second step. when i did the step 3 the system is asking some thing about

"Linux kernel source directory [/usr/src/2.6.18-92.el5PAE-i386]: Configure"

I just pressed the enter button and it went to the next message which is

"Linux source tree 'Configure' is incomplete or missing!" Configuration failed

Only one problem: there's a two inch border around my TV (not there with the open source drivers), and Boxee flashes colors rather than playing videos (a known bug. It's fixed by not using the ATI proprietary drivers). So, I disabled the drivers, rebooted, and the Boxee video works, the border/gap is gone, but once again the audio doesn't work. I've been through all the sound settings, and I have everything set to the HDMI output, but still nothing. I've tried various fixes I've found through googling
