Hardware :: Wireless - Video And Sound Cards - Unable To Install Drivers ?

I have dell inspiron-1545 laptop.I installed rhel5(downloaded from torrent for free),kernel (2.6.18-8el5xen).i got a driver cd from dell containing rhel drivers for audio,video,network.i tried to install those drivers but could not.it asked for dkms 2.0 which i installed.but even now also some errors are coming(like dependencies missing etc.).so no internet ,no sound,no video on my laptop.
Some command outputs:
When i boot every process come OK except(cpu micromodule failed.fatal error and hub port status failed). i think these cards have not been detected.

I have a new dell inspiron 1545 since i am facing problems with vista i wanted to work with linux operating system (fedora 9). I want to install the video drivers and sound drivers for my laptop..When i installed fedora 9 my screen resolution was 1366x768 but suddenly now my resolution is 1024x768. I tried to change the resolution but I am unable to find my laptop resolution. What could be the problem

I would like to know the best way to swap out video cards from ati to nvidia. For example. In windows, I would uninstall the driver, switch the cards, boot into a low VGA windows session and install the new drivers, reboot done.
In sues, I'm wondering if I uninstall the drivers, after rebooting I might loose my Gnome desktop. And I guess at that point I'd be looking at a blinking cursor?

installing the PCI wireless card drivers in CentOS linux. I have "Sabrent PCI-G802 PCI Wireless Card - 54Mbps, 802.11g". I tried looking in google and tried multiple ways to install the driver but failed , I have followed the instructions given in the link i.e.
performed the following steps .....
1.# tar xvzf package.tar.gz (or tar xvjf package.tar.bz2)
2.# cd package
3.# ./configure
4.# make
5.# make install
I have the original cd (this cd has linux drivers also) which came with the PCI card but its not a plug and play cd like the MS windows, the cd drive is not reading the disk (But i can open it in windows 7). I copied the installation files from the cd to usb drive on my windows 7 PC and copied them on to the CentOS /home/user directory and performed the above mentioned steps. I was successful in getting till the second step. when i did the step 3 the system is asking some thing about
"Linux kernel source directory [/usr/src/2.6.18-92.el5PAE-i386]: Configure"
I just pressed the enter button and it went to the next message which is
"Linux source tree 'Configure' is incomplete or missing!" Configuration failed

When I download the drivers for my Broadcom card (BCM-4312), I get this error message:

Like a guy earlier today report a problem with Opensuse 11.2 working fine on his machine but 11.3 is not. I have somewhat the same problem. The default installation freezes randomly. I have seen this error before with Intel video cards but never with NVIDIA. Right now, I'm using VESA in failsafe mode and trying to install some drivers from this repo.
I'll try and find a fix for this. (Hope their is one)BTW, can anyone confirm when the official drivers for NVIDIA cards are coming out?

after few years being limited with my pc configuration (windows OS) I realized that linux or it's distributions is the best invention in 21 century. And finally I am starting use it. openSUSE 11.4 installaition succesful, I updated it and it looks I don;t have any problems, but I got few questions.
1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.
2. Does I got all drivers instantly installed to my mashine? ATI video drivers, sound drivers ect??
3. Are there any How-To guides which can teach me, how I can improve my desktop? gadgets, 3D desktop ect...?

I just had to have my MacBook Pro 5,5 replaced, and they replaced it with the brand new 8,1. This is nice, except for the fact that I have now learned that I can't get the video or wireless drivers for this computer. I do not have any access to ethernet, and USB internet does not seem to work. Right now I have Ubuntu 10.04 32bit installed. The installation went fine, but I can't get any drivers. Is there any fix for this? Here are the specs for this laptop:
Intel i5 Sandy Bridge 2.3GHz
320Gig HDD partitioned
Intel HD Graphics 3000 GPU
Airport Extreme Broadcom BCM43xx
-NetXtreme BCM57765
-Broadcam Corporation Device 4331
Perhaps there's another distro I can use, or maybe another release that works somewhat?

I am trying to resolve an ongoing fight involving /dev/video node assignment between 2 TV Tuner cards and a USB video camera.
Each time I reboot the three devices seem to shuffle their /dev/video assignment. i.e. what was /dev/video0 (USB camera) after a reboot magically becomes /dev/video1.
This causes all kinds of grief between my MythBackend and ZoneMinder who expect the devices to have static assignments.
how to best solve this? I did a brief search and one solution appears to be to statically assign the devices.

I have noticed an issue after upgrading to 11.4 with my sound. The sound works fine for the most part. The issue I have found is when playing a song in Amarok and then loading up a flash video, there is no sound on the flash video. If I pause amarok, then press play again on the flash video the sound will play in the video. Then if I go back to Amarok, the song won't play again until I close the firefox tab with the flash video. So naturally I figured it was an issue with my sound driver allowing multiple playback. However, I then went and loaded a video in VLC (an .avi) and the sound in vlc and amarok worked at the same time.

I recently had a brain cramp and told Phonon to forget my sound card(s). I have an on-board card and I have installed an old-school Sound Blaster CT-4832. I have followed the steps listed in the comprehensive sound trouble shooting, and still no luck!

I have just completed a clean install of 10.04 and my wireless is not working.It detected my hardware and installed the drivers. It is activated in the hardware Drivers section and the wireless button light is lit.When I click the connection icon in the panel the wireless has nothing to connect too and says disconnected. The Ethernet connection is working fine.BTW the wireless worked just fine in 9.10.

I'm planning to switch back to Linux from Windows 7, but before I do that, I have a pressing issue. I won't be able to access my net by a usb or ethernet or whatever to get the wireless drivers (always had to do that on Ubuntu, guessing Fedora will be the same since I've never used wifi on it before) and need to know if there's a way to get those in an rpm file. Is this possible? I'm otherwise unable to run Fedora with internet for an indefinite and unacceptable amount of time,

Using a Eee 900A netbook by Asus. By pressing Fn + F2, I can disable or enable the wireless chip on the netbook, a blue LED indicates the status. I've been able to connect to wireless networks just fine with this netbook. However, if the wireless chip ever becomes disabled, I have to reboot to get my network connection back. This generally happens when suspending. For some reason the LED will be off and I have to hit Fn + F2 for it to light up again.
However, after doing so, Linux will not reconnect to the network. It simply changes the wireless status from "wireless is disabled" to "device not ready". Even worse, I've recently had issues with the chip being enabled at boot, thus making it nearly impossible to get connected. I've searched around on-line but haven't found much of anything useful on this. This happens on all kinds of different distros including Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook, EeeBuntu 4 beta, Jolicloud and Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook.

I just installed 11.04 and I knew I would have to install the NVidia video drivers. So it was no surprise when it popped up a warning and dropped me into Gnome Classic view. So I turned on the NVidia drivers and rebooted. In my desktop selection menu on the login screen I have "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu Classic".
Unfortunately they look exactly alike, with the Gnome panel along the top, and the panel with the taskbar, desktops and recylce bin on the bottom. I've gone back-and-forth a few times and nothing has changed. Some changes in one environment is not set in the other, like they really are 2 different environments.
According to the Software Center, Unity (not Unity 2D) *is* installed.So how can I boot into the Unity desktop?

I have a PXE server.I boot one PC (optiplex 740) with hda-nvidia Sigmatel STAC9200, i have sound.I boot a second one (optiplex 380) with hda-intel Realtek ALC259, can see mixers with alsamixer, the xmms graphs moves when playing music, but i don't hear any sound.

Feel stuck between Debian and BSD worlds - not sure where to turn.
Running GNU/kFreeBSD debian 8.1-1-amd64 and base system working. Can not get X or xrandr to co-operate and use proper resolution of 1680x1050. I believe the basis of this is that it using the VESA drivers and instead should be using the INTEL drivers.
I have no 'pkg_add' for ports, plus obviously no Debian repos will help for this .... unless there are some specific kFreeBSD repos I dont know about? I can post more details on the system, but am hoping that there are other options besides compiling. I can do that if need be, but not even sure which one to use. Will these work on this system? After having a lot of trouble with vista and no chance of getting Windows 7 anytime soon, I decided to get Ubuntu and use dual booting with vista. I had recently installed it about two days ago and for the most part it worked pretty well. That is until I installed the driver for my video card, an ATI Radeon HD2600 pro, then things went down hill for me. Every time I try and boot Ubuntu it now goes to a black screen after the logo comes up and i am unable to do anything. I have tried to look up some solutions, but I am still relatively new to programing and some of this stuff seems a bit complicated for me. Is there a simple solution to this that does not require a reinstall?
