Red Hat / Fedora :: Unable To Install PCI Wireless Card Drivers In CentOS
Feb 15, 2011installing the PCI wireless card drivers in CentOS linux. I have "Sabrent PCI-G802 PCI Wireless Card - 54Mbps, 802.11g". I tried looking in google and tried multiple ways to install the driver but failed , I have followed the instructions given in the link i.e.
performed the following steps .....
1.# tar xvzf package.tar.gz (or tar xvjf package.tar.bz2)
2.# cd package
3.# ./configure
4.# make
5.# make install
I have the original cd (this cd has linux drivers also) which came with the PCI card but its not a plug and play cd like the MS windows, the cd drive is not reading the disk (But i can open it in windows 7). I copied the installation files from the cd to usb drive on my windows 7 PC and copied them on to the CentOS /home/user directory and performed the above mentioned steps. I was successful in getting till the second step. when i did the step 3 the system is asking some thing about
"Linux kernel source directory [/usr/src/2.6.18-92.el5PAE-i386]: Configure"
I just pressed the enter button and it went to the next message which is
"Linux source tree 'Configure' is incomplete or missing!" Configuration failed

Jan 29, 2010I have dell inspiron-1545 laptop.I installed rhel5(downloaded from torrent for free),kernel (2.6.18-8el5xen).i got a driver cd from dell containing rhel drivers for audio,video,network.i tried to install those drivers but could not.it asked for dkms 2.0 which i installed.but even now also some errors are coming(like dependencies missing etc.).so no internet ,no sound,no video on my laptop.
Some command outputs:
When i boot every process come OK except(cpu micromodule failed.fatal error and hub port status failed). i think these cards have not been detected.

General :: Drivers - Unable To Activate Wireless After Device Has Been Re-enabled
May 8, 2010Using a Eee 900A netbook by Asus. By pressing Fn + F2, I can disable or enable the wireless chip on the netbook, a blue LED indicates the status. I've been able to connect to wireless networks just fine with this netbook. However, if the wireless chip ever becomes disabled, I have to reboot to get my network connection back. This generally happens when suspending. For some reason the LED will be off and I have to hit Fn + F2 for it to light up again.
However, after doing so, Linux will not reconnect to the network. It simply changes the wireless status from "wireless is disabled" to "device not ready". Even worse, I've recently had issues with the chip being enabled at boot, thus making it nearly impossible to get connected. I've searched around on-line but haven't found much of anything useful on this. This happens on all kinds of different distros including Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook, EeeBuntu 4 beta, Jolicloud and Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook.

May 23, 2010i came across BT4 last few weeks ago, and i tried it in vmware and was tempted to know more, so now i wanna try to install it and dual boot. That is, when I run "lspci" the wireless card doesn't even show up on the list like it does with Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint. This narrows my options when it comes to choosing a distro to install on my computer. I can't seem to find instructions as to how I can make my wireless card work. I assume it needs a driver. I managed to find the driver, I think, in the form of a .tar.gz file. The card is a Realtek Semiconductor, RTL 8191SEvB Wireless Lan Controller (rev 10).

Mar 10, 2011I have a CanonMP280 printer and Ubuntu 10.10. Mp280 is not recognized by Ubuntu 10.10. Through 'cybertechhelp' I was very lucky to get the printing drivers to install. So the printer works.
No-one seems to be able to find the 'scanner' drivers and Canon_help is useless. So I must dual-boot with Windows to be able to scan.
Although win7 is a vast improvement on vista. I would much prefer to single-boot with Ubuntu. I tried other Ubuntu and Ubuntu-Based distros, but, the printer-drivers I have, only work in Ubuntu 08.04 - 10.10

May 1, 2010Just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 on my Acer ao532h netbook.I did a clean install, but I had been running UNR 9.10 for some time without a hitch. The new version fixed a slight bug that had made it necessary to tinker with the wifi adapter in the old version, and also seems to boot faster as advertised. However, there is one slight problem with the new version: when I attempt to engage visual effects in the appearance control panel (something which worked in the old version), the options are grayed out, as if the video driver is not installed. When I go to the hardware drivers panel, it doesn't detect any drivers to install. As far as I can remember, I didn't have to install any drivers for the GMA 3150 graphics card in the old version of UNR.

Jul 16, 2010I had dual screen config (large desktop) going on 11.2 with proprietary nvidia driver without problems. After upgrade to 11.3 this didin't work. I was not able to find a way to configure nouveau drivers, and it was stuck in the 'twinview' mode, so decided to install binary nvidia instead (the 'hard way'). Took me a while to figure out 'nomodeset' thing, but in the end drivers were installed successfully. The problem now is that only monitor displays anything, and I can't find the nvidia control panel to activate second monitor and extend the desktop there.
Used to be able to install nvidia control panel easily in 11.2 with one-click install, but for 11.3 the page says that the one-click install buttons aren't ready yet (SDB:NVIDIA drivers - openSUSE) So my question is 'how to get dual screen going and extend my desktop to second screen using 11.3 and nvidia 210 card' ? And I don't care whether it's nouveau or proprietary drivers, as long as it's easy to configure and it works.

Feb 18, 2010I'm having problems getting the wifi to work on my toshiba satellite pro l40 (psl4be). My laptop has a wifi card built in but linux cant seem to be able to find it. I tryed following these instructions and i got this output:

as you can see its telling me i have no wifi card, even though i am fully aware i do. ive tryed using ndiswrapper to install the windows drivers of the ethernet adaptor but my wifi still doesnt work, im guessing ethernet has nothing to do with wifi.I intend to convert from windows, however if i cant get the wifi to work i can only see linux at a major disadvantage as i use my wifi alot.

I cannot find any native AR5008 Linux Drivers for my card and it has been a frustrating day. I guess I'm not cut to be a network analyst just yet.

The iso I burned to CD is good (works on 2 other computers). His computer will not boot from USB, no matter what I do to the drive order in BIOS. After loading the blue screen with the Kubuntu logo on it (and the blue-white dots), the screen changes to black and shows the following text:

Fedora Networking :: Unable To Find Wireless Card
Jun 16, 2010I have been running F13 since it came out, with the wireless working fine since I got it working (using the RPM Fusion repository, broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-1.fc13). Since I updated software (without reading what was to be updated), yesterday, I am unable to even find wireless networks, although I am, as you can see, able to access through eth0 It is not a hardware problem, as I can not only find them, but access them on Ubuntu 9.10 live disc.
