I've installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 on my HP DV2000 laptop and now I want to get my wireless to work by installing the proprietary broadcom drivers (4311, I think). But my internet doesn't work yet obviously, so I need to download the drivers to my thumb drive on my desktop and install them on my non-networked laptop. My issue is that I don't know:a) Where to get the driversb) How to install them from a local drive

I need to download 'Windows Wireless Drivers' from the Ubuntu Software Centre but I cannot as I do not have an Ubuntu computer with an internet connection (hence the need for the application).
Would it be possible for someone to email it to me so I may put it onto a removable storage device and install it onto my Ubuntu computer?
If not; are there any alternative solutions (other than Madwifi).

Just got a Lexmark Pro200 wireless printer. Can anybody tell me where and how to download the relevant drivers to print using WiFi?. Went to Lexmark.com and downloaded what i thought was the correct driver and the system installed them but cannot find them. When i plug in a usb cable a message tells me that i have connected the correct printer, However when asked to search Lexmark does not even show up on the list to select and search. Was successful on my wife's Windows laptop and after trial and error on my Mac Mini.

I have been administering linux systems for years now, but usually they are commodity boxes and as a result I rarely have driver problems, short of needing to install some "restricted" or "proprietary" driver package, or manually installing the nvidia binary drivers back in the day. However, one question to which I have never picked up a straight answer regards common troubleshooting practice. Will lsusb and lspci list device for which a system has no drivers (kernel modules)? I am trying to install a webcam on a SiS-chipset laptop and though I can see a physical webcam, neither lsusb or lspci are showing me that any webcam-like device exists. What I want to know is if it would show anything, or if it needs drivers in order to show a device?

I have recently purchased a Toshiba satellite pro C650 laptop. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 via Wubi which has installed ok and boots fine but it fails to recognise my Wifi card or network so I am unable to download any drivers. It also sees my dvd rom drive but not any usb ports or other hardware. I have searched the Toshiba site but cannot find a fix on any of the Linux forums there.

I have a broadcom wireless card in my laptop and as far as I know, it acts as an USB device. I also have one USB stick wireless device (TL-WN422G - uses ath9k_htc driver) which I want to use at the same time as the first (Broadcom) device.
The problem is, after I load ath9k_htc - iwconfig does not show the new USB device (the TL-WN422G - wlan1 / ath0 / whatever), but only the old one (wlan0 - Broadcom, checked by MAC).
I tried this USB device (TL-WN422G) on my other computer that has PCI wireless card in it, and they both worked just fine together after I pluged it in... I get wlan0 (Ralink) and wlan1 (TL-WN422G). Is it some kind of a problem for the laptop that both devices are recognized as USB? How do I make wlan1 appear on my laptop?
also, my system is fully up to date 2.6.35 kernel (Arch)
edit: I've already downloaded the needed ar9271.fw from linuxwireless.org and I put it into /lib/firmware - something wrong in that?
dmesg gives me this on laptop:
usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 9
usb 1-5: ath9k_htc: Firmware - ar9271.fw not found
ath9k_hif_usb: probe of 1-5:1.0 failed with error -22

I've tried a number of locations, that may have old proprietary ati drivers for the 9250 v/c (video card for any one who was wondering). currently using ubuntu 10.10, and from what I've read else where either my card is too old or my OS is too new. I have seen a few site (2 or 3) for old ati drivers, but they are for microsoft, not linux.
I went to the AMD web site down loaded and attempted to install the latest drive, but to no avail. I've used the software center provided by ubuntu, I have the latest drivers from them, unfortunately can't play any of the non-flash games, either using wine, plays on linux and cedega. From what I have read (and please correct me if I'm wrong) I need to install the old drivers provided by x.org xfree86 or ati.

Running DKMS auto installation service for kernel 2.6.34: fglrx (8.543)...Failed
I think that has something todo with the other error I get which is:

(EE No devices detected)
Fatal server error

I have just bought a single board computer that has linux running on it and am trying to get bluetooth communications going between the SBC and my PC. The board can be found here [URL].. I was hoping i could buy two usb dongles, one to bluetooth enable my pc and the other to plug into the usb port on the SBC to setup 2 way comms. However I get the impression this sounds far simpler to implement than it will be in practice.
Could anyone offer some suggestions to dongles that are linux compatible and how to go about implementing them into my project?

I have an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG built in on my laptop, and this has always been (relatively) simple to get running on both 11.1 and 11.2. When I install 11.3 I will also be installing an RT2870-based USB device (Jensen Airlink85300 LongRange Extreme-N 802.11b/g/n)
I must have wireless enabled under install to get the Intel recognized, but should I also have the RT2870 plugged in and ready to go? Or would it be best to wait until everything else is up and running?

My laptop only has a 100Mbit ethernet port, so I bought two external USB gigabit ethernet dongles in the hope of getting faster ethernet speeds. I have never had trouble with Linux supporting ethernet before, but neither of these devices are working. One is an ASIX AX88179 (by TrendNet) and the other is a Realtek RT8153 (by Anker). When I plug these devices in, I get network devices called enx00e04ca82300 or enxd8eb97b61e4d (instead of eth0/eth1 as I would expect).
I can manually set an IP address with "ifconfig enx00e04ca82300 x.x.x.x up" and manually add a route and my network connection works at gigabit speeds. However, the long enx... network device name does not appear to be valid in some sense: tools like dhclient or iptraf or network-manager fail with messages like "no such device" (well, network-manager just hangs). I don't know if it's because the name is so long or because they are not fully registered inside the kernel.
I have vmware workstation installed, and it does some strange things with network devices (setting up bridges for everything). I have disabled its services and see the same behaviour. This looks like a kernel bug to me but it's possible it is a vmware issue. vmware works fine with my wireless and 100Mbit ethernet (eth0 and wlan0).
Realtek device
Some dmesg for the Realtek device:
Code: Select all[10264.619420] usb 4-3.1.1: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd

[10275.094334] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): enx00e04ca82300: link becomes ready
The Realtek device often crashes after just a few gigabytes have been transferred, with dmesg like this:
Code: Select all[10485.761603] net_ratelimit: 10 callbacks suppressed
[10485.761618] r8152 4-3.1.1:1.0 enx00e04ca82300: Tx status -71

[10488.711352] r8152 4-3.1.1:1.0 enx00e04ca82300: Tx status -71
[code]...
I have not investigated the ASIX device as much. However, my original 100Mbit ethernet has an ASIX chipset (AX88772) and that works perfectly. I have not observed the ASIX device crashing yet so I am using that for now (haven't used it for long yet though). But as before the device name appears to be invalid and I cannot run tools like dhclient. why two gigabit adapters with completely different chipsets would show up with long device names and support low-level stuff like ARP, ping, and static IPs, but fail with dhclient & network-manager? And the Realtek device seems to like crashing too.

I have a Live minimal install Gentoo CD that was made from a downloaded ISO that does not contain the drivers/firmware for my wireless networking card in my laptop. So I unpacked the ISO image and un-squashed the squashfs and added two folders that contained the firmware in the /lib/firmware directory. Then I squashed the file system back the way it was (squashfs), and re-created the ISO again. Then I burned the ISO to an image on a blank CD but when I tried to boot from the new CD, the CD was ignored and the laptop went directly to the hard drive for booting. So the live CD is no longer a bootable CD. I can't even tell if the firmware will work because the CD is not detected at POST. The BIOS is set to boot from a CD before it pages the hard drive. The original CD booted fine before I made the modifications to it. I compared the contents of the original CD to the one I modified and everything is identical. What did I do wrong.

With nearly all Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Linux Mint being the exceptions), my system never seems to recognize that my laptop even has a wireless card attached to it. That is, when I run "lspci" the wireless card doesn't even show up on the list like it does with Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint. This narrows my options when it comes to choosing a distro to install on my computer. I can't seem to find instructions as to how I can make my wireless card work. I assume it needs a driver. I managed to find the driver, I think, in the form of a .tar.gz file. The card is a Realtek Semiconductor, RTL 8191SEvB Wireless Lan Controller (rev 10).

I just recently put Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx on my laptop with windows dual booting. I'm pretty new to all this stuff, so I'm a bit confused. I followed instructions I read on here, but none of it seems to be working. I put all of the 3 Ndiswrapper things on, and then copied the .inf and .sys files from windows into the same directory. I just want to connect to my home network, which has WEP security.

Using a Eee 900A netbook by Asus. By pressing Fn + F2, I can disable or enable the wireless chip on the netbook, a blue LED indicates the status. I've been able to connect to wireless networks just fine with this netbook. However, if the wireless chip ever becomes disabled, I have to reboot to get my network connection back. This generally happens when suspending. For some reason the LED will be off and I have to hit Fn + F2 for it to light up again.
However, after doing so, Linux will not reconnect to the network. It simply changes the wireless status from "wireless is disabled" to "device not ready". Even worse, I've recently had issues with the chip being enabled at boot, thus making it nearly impossible to get connected. I've searched around on-line but haven't found much of anything useful on this. This happens on all kinds of different distros including Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook, EeeBuntu 4 beta, Jolicloud and Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook.
