General :: How To Install Drivers To Get Wireless Card Working
Mar 18, 2011
With nearly all Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Linux Mint being the exceptions), my system never seems to recognize that my laptop even has a wireless card attached to it. That is, when I run "lspci" the wireless card doesn't even show up on the list like it does with Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint. This narrows my options when it comes to choosing a distro to install on my computer. I can't seem to find instructions as to how I can make my wireless card work. I assume it needs a driver. I managed to find the driver, I think, in the form of a .tar.gz file. The card is a Realtek Semiconductor, RTL 8191SEvB Wireless Lan Controller (rev 10).
i came across BT4 last few weeks ago, and i tried it in vmware and was tempted to know more, so now i wanna try to install it and dual boot. Here's my problem, when installing the install.sh i get 2 options instead of 3 options in the partioner, so i couldnt install BT4 without erasing my W7, also if i do successfully install it, how do i install drivers for my wireless card, ohh and my laptop is a Acer Aspire 4736G, my wireless card is a intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN...
I am new to fedora linux. I want to know how to install wireless driver for my Dell Wireless Dell Wireless 1397 802.11b/g Half Mini Card. I am using fedora 13. Below is my lspci command outuput.
I use Ubuntu 10.4 or 10.3 (How do I find out)I'm trying to install the drivers for my wireless card (I don't know what hardware I use) I'm running on a Compaq Laptop 6735s and I was told to use this This site tells me to pick either a 32 bit or 64 bit, I don't know which one I am. so I can run off my wi-fi internet?
I have installed Fedora 8 on my laptop. My laptop has a " Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI " wireless Card. I want to get the wireless working. I did an 'lsmod' and I found that the modules for this card is not installed. I tried to start Network Manager, but network manager cannot connect to wireless but it cant. How and where can I get the drivers for this and how do I install those modules. My laptop is a Dell vostro 1400.

installing the PCI wireless card drivers in CentOS linux. I have "Sabrent PCI-G802 PCI Wireless Card - 54Mbps, 802.11g". I tried looking in google and tried multiple ways to install the driver but failed , I have followed the instructions given in the link i.e. performed the following steps .....
1.# tar xvzf package.tar.gz (or tar xvjf package.tar.bz2) 2.# cd package 3.# ./configure 4.# make 5.# make install
I have the original cd (this cd has linux drivers also) which came with the PCI card but its not a plug and play cd like the MS windows, the cd drive is not reading the disk (But i can open it in windows 7). I copied the installation files from the cd to usb drive on my windows 7 PC and copied them on to the CentOS /home/user directory and performed the above mentioned steps. I was successful in getting till the second step. when i did the step 3 the system is asking some thing about
I just recently put Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx on my laptop with windows dual booting. I'm pretty new to all this stuff, so I'm a bit confused. I followed instructions I read on here, but none of it seems to be working. I put all of the 3 Ndiswrapper things on, and then copied the .inf and .sys files from windows into the same directory. I just want to connect to my home network, which has WEP security.
I've installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 on my HP DV2000 laptop and now I want to get my wireless to work by installing the proprietary broadcom drivers (4311, I think). But my internet doesn't work yet obviously, so I need to download the drivers to my thumb drive on my desktop and install them on my non-networked laptop. My issue is that I don't know:a) Where to get the driversb) How to install them from a local drive
I'm trying to install the drivers for my nvidia graphics card. I downloaded the shell script from the nvidia website. However, there's something peculiar going on. When I execute the shell script it says it cannot find my kernel headers, yet I can verify that my /usr/include/linux/kernel.h does exist. I have selinux on, but just installed os with it on, so contexts are fresh. Checked them as well. After doing some research I found something out. When I run a 'uname -a' I get this.
Code: Linux ariel 2.6.18-194.el5PAE #1 SMP Fri Apr 2 15:37:44 EDT 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Yet when I ran 'yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers' they installed the following versions. Code: kernel-headers-2.6.18-238.12.1.el5.i386 kernel-devel-2.6.18-238.12.1.el5.i686 Shouldn't they be

I see that the error in the nvidia shell script can't locate the header files for the RUNNING kernel version which makes sense. Why would yum install that version instead of the one in 'uname -a'? Or am I misunderstanding something?
I am trying openSUSE after a long break from Linux, but I am running into the original issue I ran into several years ago which made me decide not to use this distro. My LAN card is working fine, and I can get internet hardwired into my router, but I am not having any luck getting my wireless card recognized or working. Also, my notification area on my taskbar (sorry for the Windows terms) is not showing any sort of network status icon.
I have gone Computer>Install Software> and installed the b43 fwcutter thing from the repos, and have also run the following command in terminal: sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware In Network Settings in YaST, my NIC is showing, but I am still not seeing my Wireless card.
i have a little experience with ubuntu but i have had bugs that are not resolvable at this time in ubuntu. so instead of giving wild bill back my pc i am looking for a new distro. my concerns with ubuntu revolve around acpi. no fan control and high temp. the 2nd problem that is almost overlookable is the ata1 softreset error. it usually is no problem but occasionally have to do manual fsck to fix. so heres my laptop specs. toshiba a305d-s6848. amd turion x2 ati x1250 integrated. 3gb ram. 500gb hd vista and ubuntu 9.04 dual boot grub with 100gb ubuntu and the rest vista. so q1= what suse version would be best?
q2= is suse's acpi better? ubuntu runs all features but fan control q3= is suse as easy to install? or harder q4= ati graphics i know for my card went to legacy what version still has the ati drivers for my card q5= is suse easier or harder to work with and get everything working.
i know no linux is or opsys is perfect. im just looking for one that is stable and works the pc correctly. i know its a big thing to ask. i know no one can tell me that. but just looking for suggestions. im thinking of downloading suse and does all the downloads support live sessions.
I am new to Linux. About 72 hours in, and I must say. I am quite impressed. Except for a small issue. I cannot seem to figure out how to get my wireless card working. I have used the bcm43xx technique with no avail. And am working on ndswrapper. The good news is I think I have the .sys file that works. But I don't have the .inf. However any way I could make this work would be great. Below I have posted my lspci stats.
Lspci: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/PM/GMS/910GML Express Processor to DRAM Controller (rev 03) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) USB UHCI #1 (rev 03) .....

I have a wireless card that needs the Broadcom B4311 Rev. 1 driver but I don't have a way to download that driver since I don't have wireless access since the driver isn't installed. I'm running Linux Mint Debian x64.
i have installed ndiswrapper, and the correct drivers for the wireless card.
Code: ndiswrapper -l: bcmwl5a : driver installed device (14E4:4320) present I seemed to be having a conflict with the generic drivers which loaded for my wifi device 'b43-pci-bridge' and the ndiswrapper drivers i installed.
So i ran the command 'rmmod ssb' and now my broadcomm wireless device is "unclaimed"
I am not able to use internet using wireless lan. I am Not able to find the hardware and install the drivers .Please help me.I am Using red hat linux 5.4.
I have Fedora11 running in my machine and it has no LAN port (RJ-45). I have a wireless PCMCIA card. The model of the wireless card is NL-2511CD EXT2(ETSI).When I insert that card to the PCMCIA slot a window pops up and ask for a WEP key. My wireless router is configured with WPA but above pop-up has no WPA option. I suspect my fedora installation does not have the necessary driver for my wireless card.I want to install that driver. I can transfer that file to the machine via thumb drive since it has no network connection yet. How do I install this? Please refer below images as I'm still a newbie at linux.
I have installed Fedora 14 on my new laptop Thinkpad T410 but the wireless card is not detected. I tried to install the drivers but got error. How to install the driver.
I had just installed Ubuntu in my brother's laptop and the drivers for the laptop`s wireless card got deleted, or that's what is leading me to believe. Prior to the installation, the laptop was picking up wireless signals just fine. I tried finding the drivers on the INTERNET but there are too many and I don't want to get the wrong one. Even so, I don't know how to install it through Ubuntu or anything. I tried the "disswrapping" app. but it was looking for some sort of ".if" file type. I also tried using the Terminal, but I'm not an expert on this kind of stuff. I got Ubuntu 2 days ago on my own laptop.
I just got myself a Dell Inspiron 1440. And decided to install my favorite distro Debian. I got the installation to go with no issue and all seems to be working fine. However the wireless isn't working. NetworkManager doesnt even detect a wireless card. I followed the instructions here and installed the b43-fwcutter and then issued the modprobe b43 and modprobe b43legacy commands. Then I issued the iwconfig command and this was the output.

Also, I've been doing some research and found out about some file located /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. So I looked in mine and found out that only my eth0 is added.
I have a Wireless PCI-Express Adapter which I wish to install the drivers, though am having difficulty. The chipset on my card is a Ralink. I have visited the Ralink Website Ralink corp. and downloaded the RT2860 Wireless Lan Linux Driver version 2.3.0.0. I have extracted the files within my home directory. I have read the readme file, and from what I understand I have needed to do... I have typed in the Make command as a "super user". Unfortunately I have had no success and it states the following output.
I am trying to install Linux with an SD card via an internal SD card reader on my MacBook Pro. When booting and pressing 'C', the system hangs forever. When booting and pressing 'Option', the same thing happens. Doesn't seem to be working.I used ode:dd if=/path/to/iso of=/path/to/sdcardto put the image on the SD card. The image itself was verified with MD5. It should be noted that Mac OS X can not read the SD card (bringing up an error) and installing rEFIt (a bootloader toolkit) and attempting to boot the computer results in yet another hang.
