I need to download 'Windows Wireless Drivers' from the Ubuntu Software Centre but I cannot as I do not have an Ubuntu computer with an internet connection (hence the need for the application).
Would it be possible for someone to email it to me so I may put it onto a removable storage device and install it onto my Ubuntu computer?
If not; are there any alternative solutions (other than Madwifi).
I've installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 on my HP DV2000 laptop and now I want to get my wireless to work by installing the proprietary broadcom drivers (4311, I think). Went to Lexmark.com and downloaded what i thought was the correct driver and the system installed them but cannot find them. When i plug in a usb cable a message tells me that i have connected the correct printer, However when asked to search Lexmark does not even show up on the list to select and search. Was successful on my wife's Windows laptop and after trial and error on my Mac Mini.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal

I have a new Toshiba A505-6980 laptop running Windows 7 with built-in Realtek wireless chipset (8172). I need to have Windows running currently for my job. My goal is to install Linux and then Windows 7 as a VM under Virtual Box.
In the meantime, I installed Wubi. I tried to install the wireless, but Windows Wireless Drivers wasn't installed. I tried downloading it through the built in Software Center, and it said "Not available in the current data". So I am going to manually install ndiswrapper and go from there. I already have the realtek windows inf and sys files.
My question is why is the Windows Wireless Drivers software not installed and also unavailable. Is it a Wubi thing? This is my first attempt at Wubi. My last laptop was running Linux Mint 7 as the only OS, and it had no problems installing Windows drivers.

I'm trying to locate the wireless drivers because I will use them for NDIS wrapper when I have ubuntu installed.
But i'm not sure where I can find them and what the names of the files are.
I've been trying to get online for the better part of a week now with no luck. I can't get my network up to download drivers for my hardware - without the drivers I have no GUI so I'm stuck trying to do this in text mode.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI can get the command program to work, but not the desktop program to work. Windows Wireless Driver was working, but now every time I try to start it, it won't load, and will just be an empty window. This happened after I tried to installed a driver (which was the wrong one), and I restarted the computer. After this happened, I tried to reinstall the program, but to no avail.
The command program works, but I can't use the command lsusb, because it just pauses and doesn't do anything. Do I have to wait for it to kick in. I'm pretty sure that this is not it, because when I try the lspci, this works fine (but it's not the one I need). Please help, and don't make any stupid replies.
I recently installed Slackware Linux 13.1 , and my Wireless is down. I've only installed 3 Linux disto's on my main laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 , 10.04 , and Crunchbang Linux 9.04 , just had Crunchbang), and they all had the same problem. In all three , I was able to enable Windows Wireless drivers and every thing worked. Now , I'm assuming I have to the same ting in Slackware? Sorry , but I have no idea what my wireless card is. But I know that my laptop is a Dell Insprion E1705. One last thing , I did ifconfig and that wlan0 is my Wi-Fi interface. I typed ifconfig wlan0 up to see if that was the problem. After I did that , I got and error message. Then I typed ifconfig wlan0 down to see if it was down and it made wlan0 down. I tried bringing it up again , but I got an error saying it couldn't find the device specified. Also , how do I install XFCE? I really don't like KDE for some reason and would like to install XFCE. I chose XFCE over GNOME (my favorite) because I want to try something new.

I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 via Wubi which has installed ok and boots fine but it fails to recognise my Wifi card or network so I am unable to download any drivers. It also sees my dvd rom drive but not any usb ports or other hardware. I have searched the Toshiba site but cannot find a fix on any of the Linux forums there.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've tried a number of locations, that may have old proprietary ati drivers for the 9250 v/c (video card for any one who was wondering). currently using ubuntu 10.10, and from what I've read else where either my card is too old or my OS is too new. I have seen a few site (2 or 3) for old ati drivers, but they are for microsoft, not linux.
I went to the AMD web site down loaded and attempted to install the latest drive, but to no avail. I've used the software center provided by ubuntu, I have the latest drivers from them, unfortunately can't play any of the non-flash games, either using wine, plays on linux and cedega. From what I have read (and please correct me if I'm wrong) I need to install the old drivers provided by x.org xfree86 or ati.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have managed to compile and load the RaLink drivers for my wifi card and get an internet connection.My problem is that when I do a broadband speed test on using chrome I get about 1.5 Mbs and on my laptop (Windows 7 meh :-( ) its closer to 7Mbs. I was wondering if there are any other settings I can modify or tweak that could potentially change to improve this. or maybe a better way to test the through put of my connection?I downloaded the latest drivers for my device from Ralink and compiled new module, but I get a little confused on what settings to do and where it reads any configuration information from.
