i have installed kubuntu in ubuntu 10.04 lts, the problem that i have right now is that whenever the laptop hibernates the network manager is disabled!! so i always have to go to the ubuntu desktop enviroment in oder for me to activate the network kubuntu.Is there a way i can just activate the network manager without going to ubuntu desktop enviroment??

I had installed Fedora 12. I am using 4 LAN Cards. All these cards were configured using network manager, but i am not able to acivate /deactivate these cards using acivate /deactivate buttons since they got disabled. I could activate the cards by running /etc/init.d/restart network. Anyone knows why the acivate /deactivate buttons in network manager are disabled .

Not only did it not fix it, but now I cannot connect to any network, wired or wireless. I tried to open the default network manager and it said "Network management disabled". How do I re-enable it?I also have set YAST settings back to their originals with no luck.

For extra fun using the wrong password a couple of times in a row causes the users account to be locked.Network manager automatically stores and reuses the password, with the net result that it is constant getting my account locked.Is there some way to prevent it from storing my password for that network?

Now every time I boot Win XP, the Internet Explorer menu bar is all blacked out and goofy. If I log out and back in it corrects itself. If I reboot it's blacked out again. Re-installed IE8. Still blacks out.Also Firefox in Win XP crashes expectantly. It has NEVER crashed on me previously.
I know I sound pretty nooby atm, but I'm thinking of making a switch to Kubuntu. But only if it has a software centre, similar to Ubuntu, I know Linux Mint has it now so I would expect same from Kubuntu (Y). I just cba to run off a live CD, I'm typing an important document atm.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOnly problem is when there's no information to read I can't learn anything. So I've looked and looked but I can't find anything on the KDM theme manage that comes with kubuntu 10.10.
SO here's what I want to do:
All I want to do is just change the login and splash screens to something more to my liking when I got to System settings -> System Administration -> Login Screen , which is the KDM that comes on kubuntu (trust me I looked for kdmtheme under KpackageKit I get a chance to pick new themes I go through and find something I like and go to install and it doesn't show. All I get is the original one and that's it.
why it doesn't show up or how I may go about changing these two things
I just added a 2 port network card to a system that is running Fedora 11, but it is INACTIVE. I open the Network Device Control to activate it but there is no network ports in Network Device Control. It is empty.It looks like the system recognize the card and loaded correct driver.
View 4 Replies View RelatedInstalled Fedora 11 yesterday and was trying to use the Admin->Software Update but initially it complained about no connectivity (this is happening even though I was able to browse the web via FireFox!). So I went to Admin -> Services, and restart the Network Manager. It was then able to download about 250 updates. However, when I clicked on Install after the download, it says it was disconnected. When I went into Admin->Networking, I found out that the eth0 interface is Inactive. However, the Activate button is greyed out. I have been searching in the User Guide, the FAQ, the bugs section and have been unable to find out how to fix this. If I goto the command prompt, and typed in "ifconfig" I can also see that there is no IP and no packets transferred.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running Kubuntu 6.10. I opened adept package manager to create a new repository. It opened and I created the new repository (/home/dell/repository/)it went through. I closed adept. Opened adept and a error message reading this popped up: "The APT database could not be opened! This may because by incorrect APT configuration or some similar problem. Try running apt-setup and apt-get in terminal and see if it helps resolve the problem." I ran it in terminal (I was online) for both and update and upgrade in both apt-get apt-setup, but it tells me "E: type "/home/dell/repository/" is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list E: The list of sources could not be read." I tried opening Add/Remove Programs but it did the same thing as adept. I am a linux newbie, and haven't toyed with APT database. When I added the new repository I just opened Manage Repositories and then entered "/home/dell/repository/", clicked add and it was put on the list as "Comment | /home/dell/repository/" in a grey text. I right clicked on it and clicked enable, it stayed grey. I left the program then. How can I fix the APT database?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been running F10 since it first came out, and I was happy to see it was the first Fedora release that automatically recognized my Atheros wireless card. I have to run system-config-network and press the "activate" button when I start the machine, but that's ok and no big deal. But today, for whatever reason,in system-config-network, the "activate" and "deactivate" buttons are grayed out and I cannot start the device so I have no network access. When I boot the machine into Windows, it works fine.

When i wan to activate device in network configuration, it pop out with "CANNOT ACTIVATE NETWORK DEVICE ETH0". There is a sentence after this also : "rlt8129 device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization."
View 14 Replies View RelatedNew to ubuntu. I love the OS. Everything works great except for the network connection. It tells me I need to activate the b43 drivers with fwcutter, but here are the following problems:
1) I can't download and install the drivers b/c I can't connect to the internet wired or wireless.
2) I can't find the website to download the appropriate drivers (I've looked for hours)
3)I'm not too sure how to install them since I don't have a background in coding.
I really like ubuntu, I just need network working.
In Fedora 12 Network Configuration tool the Activate and Deactivate buttons are disabled.I thought that this was due to Network Manager overriding it but I've disabled that in order to set a static ip but the buttons are still disabled.
