I had installed Fedora 12. I am using 4 LAN Cards. All these cards were configured using network manager, but i am not able to acivate /deactivate these cards using acivate /deactivate buttons since they got disabled. I could activate the cards by running /etc/init.d/restart network. Anyone knows why the acivate /deactivate buttons in network manager are disabled .

In Fedora 12 Network Configuration tool the Activate and Deactivate buttons are disabled.I thought that this was due to Network Manager overriding it but I've disabled that in order to set a static ip but the buttons are still disabled.

Network manager sees the connection when I click on 'edit connections'. Which files do I need to edit to sort this out, or do I need to print here to help find a solution?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been running FC8 on this IBM T23 with a D-Link wireless adapter. Using MadWifi this has worked fine with Network Manager disabled. But now I have nuked that installation and replaced it with FC10. Network Manager is nice, and I would like to use it. And it kind-of works. Network Manager recognizes my router and all my neighbor's routers, but I can't connect.

My Network manager is missing (it is usually has a short-cut on the desktop-bar, which are monitor pictures, next to the sound short-cut). Does anybody know how to activate it again (terminal-based command or etc)? See my attachment, i made a circle sign on the missing network-manager.

- a wired network
- a wireless network
- a mobile broadband network as both "system connection" and "automatic connection".
I need to have a laptop that will try to connect as sson as I plug the ethernet cable in or as soon as it senses a certain SSID or as soon as there's a mobile broadband device plugged into a USB port. Non-system connections are working but I am not willing the actual user (non-admin) to read the WPA2 key or the SIM PIN. But the check box for the system connection is disabled. And running "sudo kcmshell4 --icon networkmanager kcm_networkmanagement kcm_networkmanagement_tray" doesn't result in a system connection.
I've installed ubuntu 10.04 on a hp mini 110. I've used netbook remix on this same computer and had no problems with a wireless connection. In this case, network manager shows wireless disabled. I have installed the Broadcom B43 Wireless drive from Adminstration->Hardware drivers. No help! ifconfig does not
show eth1 and lspci tells me that the Broadcom BCM4312 Network controller is present.
I just brought up FC12 on our VSphere to begin testing..The nic did not configure properly for some reason.. I was able to go to command line, and do an "ifup ifcfg-eth0" and DHCP got an address. View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just switched from xub to lub, and I must say it's a lot lot faster. There's just one really annoying problem (I have no idea if this is in any way related to LXDE or if it's just due to 10.04): Network Manager only starts about a minute after the rest of the desktop. So my system boots up, I log in, see the applet, but it is greyed out (it tells me "Network Manager is disabled" or something similar). After a minute (approx), it suddenly comes to life and connects me. Now, I think this only happens when I have:
A) set the wireless connection to "all users"
B) given an empty password for the keyring
But when I cancel either of the two above, it doesn't stop it from happening. I've tried updating etc.. to no avail. I've also tried wicd, but for some reason installing wicd from synaptic doesn't remove Network Manager? Anyway, has anyone seen behaviour like this? Any suggestions for first steps to take to see where it's blocking?
I've been running F10 since it first came out, and I was happy to see it was the first Fedora release that automatically recognized my Atheros wireless card. I have to run system-config-network and press the "activate" button when I start the machine, but that's ok and no big deal. But today, for whatever reason,in system-config-network, the "activate" and "deactivate" buttons are grayed out and I cannot start the device so I have no network access. When I boot the machine into Windows, it works fine.

What happened:- I run out of battery (laptop)- I believe Kubuntu tried to suspend to disk, but that failed, the system froze- after reboot the system tray applet just told "network manager disabled" How do I fix this ??.. I tried but after entering the second line of code it says no such file/directory exist...

I have downloaded and installed Fedora 10.Now I am setting up the network and in the 'network configuration' it finds the wireless device (ralink) in the 'hardware' section of the configuration - I set this to eth0 (it originally set itself to wan0 and I still had the same problems, now it doesn't give me the option to put it back to wan0).Now I goto the devices tab and try to set up the device with eth0 - which it seems to find.But when I goto activate the device it tells me that eth0 cannot be found
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a fresh install of OpenSuSE 11.3 KDE 64-bit on my new laptop. Worked like a charm. But I brought it with me to work without connecting it to a wi-fi and now the network manager doesn't want to start when I'm back in range of my home connection. Also, whenever I try to launch KNetworkManager, it won't load up a window and I still can't connect. This is even disabling the Ethernet port also.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just installed FC12 on my machine - and gone Windows free for the first time ever. Now I do use various flavours of Linux on a daily basis but not from an installation/sys admin point of view so my questions here may seem a little basic but pleas eindulge me if you will!
Now, my network connection works perfectly well under the following scenarios.
1) FC12, wired to router
2) FC12, wireless, SSID broadcast enabled
3) Ubuntu (laptop), wireless, SSID broadcast DISABLED
The only scenario that does not work is FC12, wireless with SSID broadcast disabled.
I can only assume that it is an issue with my USB modem (a linksys WUSB54GS) since the same set-up works fine from my laptop running Ubuntu with an internal wireless card.
Now, I know from reading the forums that it's pretty easy to get around a disabled SSID broadcast but this is an itch I just have to scratch....what the hell is causing this problem?

I'm working on setting up access for our developer via Telnet, we are on a local network behind a physical firewall. I set up the standard Telnet service for Fedora15 and from localhost I can login via any user and root.... However I cannot login from another terminal on the LAN, even though I can ping and FTP to the fedora15 box. I added the firewall rules for telnet, that did not work, so I disabled the firewall, still cannot get a connection via port 25. I feel either port 25 is closed in another manor or the telnet is restricted to the localhost.
Also I cannot login to root to configure the Firewall Desktop GUI, only standard users, is this an issue? I also cannot login to the console as root even though I use the correct password.I can only su to root and sometimes it is a PITA. There must be some settings to clear these issues up...
I just added a 2 port network card to a system that is running Fedora 11, but it is INACTIVE. I open the Network Device Control to activate it but there is no network ports in Network Device Control. It is empty.It looks like the system recognize the card and loaded correct driver.

View 8 Replies View RelatedNew to ubuntu. I love the OS. Everything works great except for the network connection. It tells me I need to activate the b43 drivers with fwcutter, but here are the following problems:
1) I can't download and install the drivers b/c I can't connect to the internet wired or wireless.
2) I can't find the website to download the appropriate drivers (I've looked for hours)
3)I'm not too sure how to install them since I don't have a background in coding.
I really like ubuntu, I just need network working.
I updated my FC10 just a day back. The problem is that Netwrok Manager has disappeared. And in spite of re-installing it, it doesn't appear on the panel when i enter 'NetworkManager' as root in the terminal.I have a USB modem right now. Update was made through a broadband connection. Ethernet works perfectly well but this USB modem of mine doesn't work at all. And I have to use USB not Ethernet.

Whenever I try to connect using static IP it works, but when I use use Netowork Manager with DHCP, it seems to try to connect and soon says "Network Disconnected"..I've managed to connect to wlan and eth using network, so there shouldn't be any hardware/driver issue.
View 4 Replies View RelatedInstalled Fedora 11 yesterday and was trying to use the Admin->Software Update but initially it complained about no connectivity (this is happening even though I was able to browse the web via FireFox!). So I went to Admin -> Services, and restart the Network Manager. It was then able to download about 250 updates. However, when I clicked on Install after the download, it says it was disconnected. When I went into Admin->Networking, I found out that the eth0 interface is Inactive. However, the Activate button is greyed out. I have been searching in the User Guide, the FAQ, the bugs section and have been unable to find out how to fix this. If I goto the command prompt, and typed in "ifconfig" I can also see that there is no IP and no packets transferred.

I have run Fedora 9 and 10 on my Dell Inspiron 640m for about 6 months now and generally experience very few issues with it. Specifically I've been running Fedora 10 KDE 64bit since it was launched. Up until I had to reload it a couple of weeks ago my Vodafone Huawei E172 3G dongle worked perfectly with Network Manager. Since the reload the dongle is detected by the OS (lsusb lists it correctly, etc) but nothing I do will make it appear in Network Manager.
I've tried manually configuring a GSM connection then plugging it in, but no joy. I've also tried using it in my Acer Aspire One which runs Fedora 10 XFCE and it work, but when I try it in another Dell Laptop running Fedora 10 KDE 64 bit it doesn't. I'm assuming that a recent update must have caused some issue as it has definitely worked in both Dell laptops in the past. As mentioned I've reloaded recently but the other laptop hasn't been.
I'm unsure where to go from here. I haven't been able to get Vodafone's beta drivers working under F10 (although I did under F9) and can't find any posts on this issue. The version of Network Manager that I'm running is NetworkManager-0.7.0-1.git20090102.fc10.src.rpm, which was released shortly before I reloaded. Chances are I just didn't try my dongle between the update coming out and the reload, so didn't notice the problem before hand.
I'm running Fedora 10. My Network Manager settings are all grayed out. They are uneditable. I can see the detected settings, but not change them. All of the settings fields are disabled.
Is there a way to enable these, so that they can be edited?

In particular, I want to be able to edit "Auto vmnet8", for VMware usage.
I know about the workaround of going back to the manual network configuration as used in older versions of Fedora, such as editing the files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* and then enabling the old "network" service and disabling the "NetworkManager" service.
However, this workaround really won't work in this situation. The VMware interfaces, vmnet1 and vmnet8, are virtual interfaces that *only* exist when the VMware services are running. The VMware services are started *after* the old manual network configuration would be applied. So, at the time the scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts are processed, the vmnet1 and vmnet8 devices do not yet exist! I'm hesitant to change the numbering of services, lest other things break (VMware on Fedora 10 is rather fragile already).
I love the feature of NetworkManager to be able to automatically apply settings to newly materialized network devices (such as vmnet1 and vmnet8 when VMware is loaded). However, I need to also be able to edit those settings.
Is there a solution that will make my Network Manager "Edit" window not be entirely grayed out? I can see the settings pages just fine, but unfortunately, they are all disabled and I can't edit them at all.
