My friend recently installed fedora 12 in his system. Intel core2 duo, 2 GB ram. It didnt play mp3 files, but the sound during login, logout etc were ok. I searched some sites and told him to do

I have FC10! so far i have downloaded the mplayer and its codecs.further i extracted both the packages( in DOWNLOAD folder).but I'm not able to extract the codecs in the /usr/local/lib/codecs directory.it says you do not have permission. how should i know whether to compile the mplayer or is it pre-compiled?

I installed vlc and the libvdreader package but am unable to play DVDs. I even used "movie player", and the program said, fedora does not have the right codecs to play the DVD. Does anybody know what I need to do? And what codecs that I need to download if any?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis problem presented itself upon upgrading to ubuntu 9.10. Any time something affects the sound system the buzz goes away. If a song plays, no buzz. If I simply adjust or mute the volume, no buzz. But after 10 seconds of no sound related activity, the buzz returns. This is a very loud and aggravating buzz, most likely made worse by the fact that I run my sound through an amplifier.

When I try to play certain video files with mplayer, there is no sound. As far as I can tell, it is only an issue with ac3 and dts sound tracks (using the ffmpeg decoder).Mplayer says:

View 2 Replies View RelatedOur internet connection is not strong enough to handle the 4 GB DVD ISO download of Ubuntu 10 that contains all the codecs etc.
What would be the process required for me to install all the codecs needed for full multimedia support, as it is very annoying the fact it does not come with them pre loaded.
As well as installation of codecs, what other things would need to be done to ensure the system is fully set up.
Both the speakers and the headphones keep playing the sound with headphone plugged in.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't get the sound to work. The soundcard doesn't seem to be corrupted (works on both Hackintosh and Windows 8 ), but it looks like alsa won't recognize it on Debian:
aplay -l
aplay: device_list:268: no soundcards found...
Playing a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

The sound stopped working on my Macbook Pro 1,1. It was working fine before, and I can't think of any changes I made that would make it stop working. I know it's not a hardware problem because the Apple sound plays when I turn on the computer. Everything is unmuted in ALSA Mixer. None of the hardware options in Sound Preferences produce sound. Plugging in headphones or speakers does not solve the problem. I'm using 10.10.One curiosity: Whenever I do something that would normally cause sound to play, the optical audio red light in the headphone jack turns on, but no sound plays.

I am new to both SUSE and anything that's not Debian based, so please understand if I'm not able to comprehend a lot of what you say quickly. After a successful install, I attempted to play an MP3 file. This did not work in Amarok, and installation of it would also not work. So I went to this site, openSUSE 11.3 | SUSE Linux | Beginner's guide to multimedia codecs MP3 DVD 3D nvidia ati wireless and installed the multimedia codecs and all that. While I was there I also installed the ATI driver for my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 onboard chip. After booting back up, x would not start, so I fixed that with a command. After finally getting into X, sound wouldn't work, and I con not figure out why. I know if it installed something the affects my audio.

when I use mpd with pulseaudio, I get no sound but clients appear to be playing (ncmpcpp and gmpc). Other players such as vlc or mplayer work just fine.If I go under the mixer, I get "no application is currently playing or recording audio" under the "Applications" tab when playing through mpd. In contrast, when I'm using mplayer or vlc, both show up in that tab. It behaves as though pulse is simply not configured to work with mpd.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am tired of constant problems with fedora and simple tasks that should cause no problems, I have had fedora installed for a few days now and the sound was good, I recently plugged in my pc speakers via audio jack it worked fine, then I retrun to find no should being played anywhere while everything is up, I even do the commands alsamixer -D hw:0 and all sliders where up, wtf is wrong with this BS, I unplug my speakers, still no sound, kaput, it just stops playing, I never had so many complications running an OS

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up sound notifications for my wireless internet because my router is old and glitchy (plus it would be pretty cool to hear Homer Simpson get exited about me connecting to the internet). The only notification that does not work is the sound option. I can point the network manager to the .wav file but it will not play, even when I press the little play/test button.

When I start my computer, my comp is set to require password everytime I start the computer. I am using Karmic with all the latest updates. One day, from the Login Screen itself, I selected the Power icon at the bottom right and selected Shut Down. But, from next boot, the login drum sound wouldnt play and even the african sound that comes after logging in wouldn't play. The african sound problem was solved when I noticed that my sound was muted by the GDM on shutdown. However, the drum sound still does not come. I think the solution it to change the volume before logging in.

View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, Rhythmbox will show itself playing a song (the notification in the top right corner) but I hear no sound. I can go to the application itself and see the play slider moving. I can't pause it or anything. if it's a bug in Rhythmbox itself. If I browse to the directory, and right click > Open with Rhythmbox, it works perfectly (although I still can't pause it)
Also, if I jump to another song, and then play the song it was playing silently, it works. Not sure why it does this.
I doubt it's the files themselves because I've been downloading all my songs from one site, and never had an issue in iTunes on a windows PC. It only does this to about 3 songs out of 164. It used to do this to only 2, but now it's doing it to 3 since the past few days when adding more songs.
