View 3 RepliesMy friend recently installed fedora 12 in his system. Intel core2 duo, 2 GB ram. It didnt play mp3 files, but the sound during login, logout etc were ok. I searched some sites and told him to do
Quote:
yum update @sound-and-video
(This worked for me)
but now in his system the player (amarok) shows the sound is playing but cant hear anything also the login and logout sounds also not playing.
I recently installed fedora and enjoying learning what it can do. One of the things that I wanted to do was play DVDs. I installed vlc and the libvdreader package but am unable to play DVDs. I even used "movie player", and the program said, fedora does not have the right codecs to play the DVD. Does anybody know what I need to do? And what codecs that I need to download if any?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed F15 new, and I wonder what packages do I need to install to play movies with restricted codecs? I thought I have everything what I installed last time with F14 but I can't play my movies in Kaffeine. I have rmpfusion and the packages gstreamer-plugins-bad-free gstreamer-ffmpeg gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-ugly, and all other gstreamer-* packages.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter using Ubuntu for about 18 months (and trying out a few others) I have started to use Debian (Lenny) more and more. I like the fact that it's supposed to be a very powerful and stable distro. When I tried to view a couple of video clips from a website it just won't play, though. Other distros play 'out of the box' but perhaps I need some pointing in the right direction from the more experienced Debian user! I installed MPlayer but that hasn't made any difference. I also downloaded Flash for Linux, which installed without problems. What I need to do? Plug-ins required etc?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been using Lenny for about a year now, but for some reason Xine has suddenly stopped playing mkv files. It plays everything else including flash. I only started using xine because the mkv files for some reason suffer from a lag between the video and audio in mplayer. I tried installing banshee and vlc but neither of them show video. So I was left with only Xine and it worked perfectly then it suddenly stops playing mkv. Is there something I need to install or remove, reconfigure? Do I just delete the Xine config folder in my home-folder? Lenny being what it is I can only install what is on the out-dated Lenny repos trying anything else like the unstable releases simply wants to uninstall my entire system.
My machine specs are:
Acer Aspire 8930
Intel Centrino 2
NVidia geforce 9600m GS 512mb
RAM 4GB
I have the proprietary nVidia graphics drivers installed. So it is powerful enough.
When I try to play any music or movie file over my network....VLC or any other player gives me errors. I don't have any problems when I copy movie files directly to my hard drive from my network. This is on Debian 8 if that information is of any relevance here...
Here is the error I am faced with...

i'm using debian wheezy and whenever i'm playing a webm video, typically on videos, totem and mplayer can't play video. the video just freezes. (i assume because they both use gstreamer.) when i try to use vlc when those 2 aren't working, the video does play but there is no sound.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a video file in which the audio runs faster than the video, so they quickly go out of sync. The way to fix it would be to separate the audio and video streams, speed up the video (the audio is FINE, it's the video that's wrong), and then recombining them. What is the easiest way for doing that?

I shouldn't need new drivers (based on a possible misunderstanding) because I am going from a nvidia 6100 to a 8600. I have looked in various places like the control center but haven't had any luck. I just started using linux and have very little experience in the terminal. Issues with the current card are stopping me in my learning process.

The CPU load as is implies that this is not activated. I assume that it's limited to a handful of codecs. But which player supports this, if its even supported at all?

I have had some difficulties playing non-flash videos on my ubuntu.
I have an example link:

How am I supposed to play these videos.
Recently, I noticed that I can no longer see any video when playing m4v files (audio is OK). These files worked fine until recently, and the problem persists across mplayer, totem, banshee and even firefox.
I am running Natty with the 2.6.39 kernel.
I have an mkv file that I'm trying to player with mplayer, but no video is showing up. Mplayer was installed using apt-get install mplayer since ./configure when I try to build mplayer gives me a bunch of garbage:
Current branch master is up to date.
Detected operating system: Linux
Detected host architecture: i386
[code]....
But, after installing mplayer using apt-get, I can't get any video for the file I'm trying to play. I've tried copying the files from "all-20110131.tar.bz2" to /usr/local/lib/codecs but I still don't even get a box for video. Everything works fine using the built in movie player--even the subtitles are shown correctly.
