View 4 Repliesi want to install a program called VMPK its a virtual keyboard, but through googling i seem to keep running in circles. The program comes as a tarball, which i have no idea how to install (still semi new to Linux... within my first 2 months)... i have read something about compiling it as an RPM but i cant seem to find anything else other than that... this is probably something super simple

I have researched and it seems these are openable in linux(with some tweaking). Does Linux have an equivalent? If so, whats the extension?
Driver Genius is a piece of software that you can use to extract/pull/save/leach the drivers of a certain piece of hardware under MS Windows in order to save it for feature use with an other similar machine
OR the concept is different in linux? cause the drivers are integrated inside the kernel?
The only thing I miss about Windows is the US International keyboard setting. Is there really no equivalent in Ubuntu?
The current Ubuntu US International keyboard setting is just not the same. "whodoesitwant" explained the difference last year [URL], and it has been asked about before [URL]. Does anyone know if there are plans to implement a Windows-like keyboard setting?
This may seem petty, but it's a real nuisance if you've learned to touch type in Windows. At the moment the best I can find in Ubuntu is the US International (AltGr dead keys) layout, but it's awkward and slow using the right-hand alt key.
After using Kubuntu and Mandriva for years I have moved to Ubuntu 10.10. In the week I have had it it is excellent, BUT, I have a Sprint mobile broadband account/Router and meed to know my running daily/weekly/monthly traffic. Is there a equivalent to KDE/Knemo for gnome.

Lifeograph requires the following modules to be built:

Type "make" to build and "make install" to install (all without quotes). No configuration atm.
I tried make, but it doenst really work. So i think i dont have good requirements.
-> how do I install the required modules? -> I've found some in packet manager, but some appear to be librarys.
I thought about this a while ago when reading through a Python tutorial and I googled some and couldn't find an answer. Now I want to know it for Ruby, also, and it's more important now because I want to invoke Ruby with -w.
How can you use:

How can I set keys to be remapped for one specific program in Linux? (More specifically Caps Lock -> Escape for gVim. I hit it accidentally too much to remap it in everything).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI feel there's a bit of a misunderstanding going on between C++ and me...My problem is that I have a deque of pointers to a class, and create objects then add them to the deque in a for loop. However, the destructor is called on the object as soon as the loop quits.
Code:
This prints:
Code:
Now, if I change the deque from deque<Test*> to deque<Test> then it works fine - I get:
Code:
However, I can't do this with my actual code, because I am creating a deque of pointers to an abstract class, so it won't let me instantiate the class. (This is all so that I can take advantage of polymorphism, and call functions on a set of similar objects without worrying what type of object I'm dealing with).
So, I suppose my question is: what is the correct way to create that deque of pointers to the abstract class? I don't seem to be barking up the right tree currently.
I've been given one of these ubiquitous usb-sleep buttons which is basically a supersimple usb-keyboard. It's a big button that sends a SLEEP keypress to the computer when you slam it. But that is pretty boring. I'd love to remap it to do something more fun but I can't figure out how to bind to only the sleep press from the button and not from my ordinary keyboard.
The button identifies as
Bus 001 Device 035: ID 1130:600d Tenx Technology, Inc.
I'd like to know if there's either
a way of mapping a key from a specific keyboard to an action OR a way of remapping the sleep key from a specific keyboard to a new key-code or something like that.
I'm trying to find that line in the init files, but I don't see anything blatantly referring to login yet.

I've logged on thw web, and tried to look it up on the web. I found the webpage, but all the download link's seem to be broken.

Does anyone know if this is happening for any reason? Am I missing something? If it is broken and there is no other solutionn, Can someone send me the Gelato 2.1 Rendering source for Ubuntu 9.10?
where I can obtain a RPM of a program called "aacgain"?
It 'normalizes' the volume of m4a, mp4 and m4v files quite nicely. It used to be in the Packman repositories but I cannot find it in the ones for openSUSE 11.4 and going back to openSUSE 11.2 (my previous install) I cannot find it there either. I used to have it installed though and it still has a page on Packman's search page, here, PackMan :: Package details for aacgain . It is rather odd, its website, AACGAIN , says that it can only be released as source code due to licensing issues but I can't seem to find it in the zip of the source code for "mp3gain" like it says it is on SourceForge.
I would just like it back on my system after I upgraded to openSUSE 11.4 and I find it rather useful so I am missing it quite a lot.
Does Ubuntu have an equivalent to system restore like windows?
I just want to know what the best way is to save everything , as in settings and programs etc. , just in case there's some sort of major failure.
Any ghosting programs that will allow me to save the last known good configuration? or clone the entire drive?
Since I've been using Ubuntu I haven't run into any major screwups like with windows , but there are some times I've installed it and it took a while to get different things working. I don't want to have to go through the whole process again if there's ever a major malfunction.
I am new in Ubuntu. I wanted to know if there is a System Restore available out there in which is equivalent of RollbackRX [URL].. freeware or shareware.
RollbackRX used to backup/restore OS system changes.
It is able to backup/restore system in less than 1 minute.
It is able to backup with a little amount of disk size.
Feature Needed:
Pre-Boot Snapshot Backup
[Code]...
I currently used this application in my Windows XP system. And I am happy having it. I used to modify my XP a lot and sometimes forcing myself to restore my system (using rollbackrx) because It is unbootable/freezing/sudden restart. It does save me a lot of time, especially those critical moments. I am hopeful that there is available variant of this one for Ubuntu.
I have a home-theater computer hooked up to my TV. It has a keyboard of its own, but I don't like to have to drag it out just to queue up a movie. The thing is, I can use my netbook computer to wirelessly ssh into the home-theater computer and do all kinds of things...copy and transcode files, etc--but nothing GUI. I would like to be able to simply run mplayer from my ssh session and have it show up on the TV. When I ssh into my HTPC and try to run mplayer I get "no X session". Is there some way to do this, so that I can either launch graphical programs on the host computer's x-server, or totally use the keyboard/mouse of my netbook as if they were connected directly to the HTPC?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Linux system running (Debian). It is working perfectly from a remote point of view. I can ssh in it, it has the imap running correctly, and a couple of kvm systems running (I can also ssh to them). Well, it works!
But when I go in front of the keyboard/mouse/screen there's nothing. No way to switch between the consoles with Ctrl+Alt+F# (X is not running on this system). The screen is desperately black. But the screen does not go to sleep mode, it still has its green led on! I guess it means that the graphics card still sends the H and V syncs correctly (VGA connection).
Is there a process that is blocking the display and prevents me from getting the control?
Note: Last time I used the console, it was in console 1. Ctrl+Alt+F1.
I have downloaded DavMail and its currently living and running from my /home/user/Downloads/DavMail
in this folder is
davmail.jar
davmail.log
davmail.sh
Lib/
[Code]....
I need to put davmail in a better location than downloads but am unsure where to put it, Im guessing if I seperate some of the files/folders such as lib ill have to modify the davmail.sh file.
wheres the best location to keep this or should it remain in my home folder, I was going to put this in
/usr/local/bin
/usr/local/lib
But the jar count as a binary? the .sh certainly wouldnt.

I was wondering whether there is an inbuilt logging system in UNIX?
I ran and installation and the program opened up automatically but I can't find the program executable.
If I could find a log then I could locate this file.
