I have an executable with input options, like so:

I've added gcov to the makefiles (compiling with --coverage, -fprofile-arcs, and -ftest-coverage, and linking with -lgcov). It builds fine and creates executable.gcno.
When I try to run gcov, gcov things the options belong to it:

gcov: invalid option -- 's'
Usage: gcov [OPTION]... SOURCEFILE...
When I use quotes this happens:

executable -n 42 -s 42.gcno:cannot open graph file
The command line options must remain. How can I get gcov to generate the same .gcno file it later looks for?
I am wanting to write a program that runs a program or command-line. Is there are way of making a program that activates a command-line (for example executing 'ps -a -f' or '/home/shared/fah').
In addition to that, I want the program to do a 'ps -a -f' and put the results in a buff, how could I do this.

I know how to do "lpr -P Generic-CUPS-PDF-Printer filename" to get a general file printed to a PDF, but this method clearly is missing all of the nice formattingptions that get passed when using a GUI print spooler (margins, fonts, dpi, paper size, etc..). I tried to use ps to capture whatever command is being sent by the spooler but couldn't figure it out, since I'm not really sure what commands get called by the spooler

I feel there's a bit of a misunderstanding going on between C++ and me...My problem is that I have a deque of pointers to a class, and create objects then add them to the deque in a for loop. However, the destructor is called on the object as soon as the loop quits.

However, I can't do this with my actual code, because I am creating a deque of pointers to an abstract class, so it won't let me instantiate the class. (This is all so that I can take advantage of polymorphism, and call functions on a set of similar objects without worrying what type of object I'm dealing with).
So, I suppose my question is: what is the correct way to create that deque of pointers to the abstract class? I don't seem to be barking up the right tree currently.
I have just installed pdfocr. Unfortunately it does not have a gui and so in time I will forget how to use it or not remember I have it.

I tried to install Vlc using the terminal (terminal as root). I've used the command aptitude install vlc. Instead of installing only vlc, my gnome desktop environment was removed, gdm was removed, many more programs was removed! I have reinstalled Suse 10.1 as dual-boot with Windows XP. I am now unable to get a program to run from the Linux command line. I am familiar with the program and have had it running previously when the machine was Linux-only. Everything else, e.g.Firefox and Office, work fine in Suse.

The problem occurs with all commands - not just this one. isis3Startup.sh is in green on the screen so I assume I should be able to run it - I have never had any problem when it was installed previously.

I know that i the former case, mplayer is assigned (for lack of a proper term) to a session, e.g. tty1. Not so in the latter. But why should a program like mplayer not receive (or ignore?) input from lircd, simply because it doesn't have a session? And how can I get mplayer (or any program run from boot scripts) to work with other programs (like lircd)?
I am trying to learn how to pass more than a one-command startup for gnome-terminal.

However, running with the -g option to invoke gnome-terminal, I get a "There was an error creating the child process for this terminal" error.
This same error occurs if the gnome-terminal line is changed to

Is there any way to pass more than one command on to gnome-terminal? I have tried various single and double quoting senarios and in a final attempt, I abstracted to an exported function all to no avail. Perhaps even though gnome-term is better at many things than xterm, xterm trumps it in this instance.
For whatever reason, the "Ctrl-Alt-Fn" sequence has no effect on one of my Ubuntu machines; the sequence is interpreted as ordinary input. I need to get the system to a console because I'm trying to do a dist-upgrade and that's going to bounce gdm etc.
Is there some command-line tool that can be used to switch consoles? I have some vague distant memory of that being possible.
(I'm running Ubunty Jaunty at the moment. Yes I know it's old; I'm trying to march forward.)
