I would like to install a program called VariCAD. I downloaded the install file (full file name: varicad2010-en_2.06_amd64.deb) but was wondering if one couldn't somehow do this via the repository, kind of like I did for my nvidia drivers? Is it possible?

I would like to adjust the journal program called lifeograph. First I would like to build it, clean without any adjustments.

I was using Kbibtex under 11.2 on my Lenovo (32-bit) but YaST does not find it now that I have upgraded to 11.3. Perhaps it is as simple a matter as adding another repository. Can anyone clarify for me?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just purchased openSUSE 11.2 x64 on DVD from osdisc.com, as well as the 5 x64 repository DVD's. The base install went fine, but when I try to add thos's to my software repositories using yast they all have the same listed name, "repository" - I can change that to show "repository disk 1" etc, but when I go to install stuff and the software installer asks for "repository disk 1" I put that in the dvd drive, and it cannot recognise it, spits it out and asks for the same disk again...hmmmm. Should I not change the default name that comes up when each DVD is added to the list? If I leave them unchanged will I be told which is the correct disk to insert, remembering that in the list they all have the same name

View 1 Replies View RelatedI feel there's a bit of a misunderstanding going on between C++ and me...My problem is that I have a deque of pointers to a class, and create objects then add them to the deque in a for loop. However, the destructor is called on the object as soon as the loop quits.

Now, if I change the deque from deque<Test*> to deque<Test> then it works fine - I get:

However, I can't do this with my actual code, because I am creating a deque of pointers to an abstract class, so it won't let me instantiate the class. (This is all so that I can take advantage of polymorphism, and call functions on a set of similar objects without worrying what type of object I'm dealing with).
So, I suppose my question is: what is the correct way to create that deque of pointers to the abstract class? I don't seem to be barking up the right tree currently.
Couple of days I go I setup VLC using Kubuntu's graphic software manager, and installed the 3 plug-ins, one of which was related to pulse. After doing this sound stopped working in flash videos. I had read, not sure where, that Kubuntu didn't use pulse (which slipped my mind when setting up VLC).
So I make the mistake of removing everything which had pulse in it's name (again, via the graphic software manager). A message popped-up saying that some packages needed to be removed/edited (a LONG list, a big clue that I was doing something stupid I guess). I let it run it's course and after that it won't boot properly.
If I boot it normally it hangs at the Kubuntu screen with the five dots filling endlessly. If I press F1 it's stuck at "checking battery status."
Recovery mode boots, but the recovery option does nothing.
So I was wondering if I could boot into recovery mode and go into the terminal and add a live USB as a repository for apt, and try to salvage the install?
Or should I admit defeat and reinstall?

It 'normalizes' the volume of m4a, mp4 and m4v files quite nicely. It used to be in the Packman repositories but I cannot find it in the ones for openSUSE 11.4 and going back to openSUSE 11.2 (my previous install) I cannot find it there either. I used to have it installed though and it still has a page on Packman's search page, here, PackMan :: Package details for aacgain . It is rather odd, its website, AACGAIN , says that it can only be released as source code due to licensing issues but I can't seem to find it in the zip of the source code for "mp3gain" like it says it is on SourceForge.
I would just like it back on my system after I upgraded to openSUSE 11.4 and I find it rather useful so I am missing it quite a lot.
I have just completed a clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 on my Acer Aspire Netbook. The first program I installed was WINE and then I installed "Spotify for Windows". All works well, but I need to start it by opening a terminal and typing - Wine "C:Program FilesSpotifySpotify.exe" which is a little cumbersome.
I want to add a shortcut to the launcher but I cannot find a way to do this. I have found a "Main Menu" option in Applications, but the options and items in there don't seem to correspond to the launcher in any way.
Is there a way of adding something to the launcher or to get the main menu to display so I can customize it from the Main Menu utility.
I'm interested in finding out, specifically, what causes daemon's to be shutdown when I shutdown Ubuntu? I'm use Ubuntu which is why I'm posting here, but I suppose this knowledge could apply to other Disto's too. Perhaps I'm better off to explain with an example:
I wrote a C++ that queries a Mysql database. I want it to run every time the computer is shutdown. I've verified the program works fine, and I've verified that I can run a program on shutdown of the computer by putting it in /etc/rc0.d. The problem is that by the time rc0.d runs my program, mysql has already been shutoff, and it can't connect.
So what I'm wondering is, is there a script or something at a higher level that goes around turning things like daemons as the System shutdowns, but before any of the scripts in rc0.d are run? (It doesn't look like anything in here is shutting down mysql). Something that actually calls mysql shutdown? How I can add my program to be run before mysql shuts down.
Otherwise, I might end up having to get the source code compile by own /sbin/shutdown and tweak it from there. Granted I might end up doing this anyway because there's more stuff I want to customize during shutdown (e.g. abort it under certain conditions), but I'm hoping not to go that far just yet.

It says it requires version 2.17, but the one in the repository is libblkid1 (2.16.2-0) as seen on [URL]... I guess almost no one else is getting this as it isnt fixed! And it is such an important program (mkfs.ext*) Should i install the one from sid's repository? If this is such a huge bug as it seemes to be, why hasnt it been fixd for more than a day (after an "aptitude upgrade", then i noticed this).
is it possible to do so? I mean, I want every user to be able to run '/bin/x' for example, as root without entering a password. I know the security risks, but I'm trying this in a risk-free environment which security does not matter very much.

I have now almost completed my aim of using Debian and PClinuxOS on different installed hard disks. For PCLOS I use an On-Disk set of disks which I have installed on a separate hard disk which serves as a repository from Synaptic, which makes program install/remove very quick. Is it possible to do the same thing with the 5 DVD's for Debian lenny on another hard disk?
