I am having troubles playing JO with wine. It installs completley fine but when I play it the menu lags like crap.
Here are my specs.
1GB Ram
1.73 GHz Processor
ATi Mobility Radeon X1400 (I think it works, I can play my linux games)
Wine Version 1.0.1
I would like to install this game with Wine, but when I open one of the exe files I get a message saying the file is not executable and since it's in a CD I can't change the permissions to make them executable. What should I do in order to be able to play the game?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having troubles using this not so new webcam. I didnt found any thread that have a problem like mine. In older kernel versions the webcam started working compiling and installing zc3xx module, but as far as I googled and lsmod this module now comes with default kernel. As I can see, the module itself recognizes the webcam, but fails in the process.Does someone have some idea of fixing? Should I report it to launchpad (and so, which section?)?

I'm using a supposedly nice graphics card under Ubuntu 9.10, an Asus GeForce GTS 250 1GB Dark Knight, and I think I'm getting a poor performance out of it. I realized this when "backing up" some movies I have on DVD and took more than 30 min with k9copy for each DVD.
The CPU is a AMD Phenom II 955 X4 Quad Core 3.2Ghz Black Ed. 125W AM3. Which I think is powerful enough for not to be a bottleneck. Maybe there is nothing wrong with the graphics card and the bottleneck is somewhere else. I provably should benchmark my system to find out if I'm not taking advantage of my hardware. I've seen phoronix has a test suite. Any other recommendations?

I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on my Dell Dimension 9100 it has a dual core 3ghz possessor. 2.5 gigs of dual channel ddr2 memory, with a nvidea gforce 9400 1gig of memory graphic card. I installed the game a couple of weeks ago, everything works really good, but in the last couple of days when I am playing the game it starts to lag really bad during game play, it goes in and out of the lag, if I wait 10-20 seconds it will get back to normal, but it is very annoying.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm basic Ubuntu user. I got new notebook Acer 5745G with GeForce GT 330M. There is no problem installing Ubuntu. After that I'm installing the recommended Nvidia driver. Everything goes well until the system asks me to restart. I'm making restart and that's it. The loading screen is not showing so as the log in screen. And the solution for now is to uninstall and install Ubuntu again. I thing updating the graphic driver is necessary thing. Not sure if this is a bug, but for sure the system is not working after updating it.

Haven't tried 4 yet, waiting for it to land in the Mint repo.Chromium is really fast but lacks RSS feed handling. I have to right-click on a feed, copy the address and paste it into Liferea. Chromium used to be crashy but has improved a lot. I am using Chromium from the testing repo until something better comes along.Midori has poor bookmark management but is otherwise OK. On a gtk system it is really fast loading. I used it for a couple months but recently switched to Chromium.

I am using this star release star 1.5a75 (i386-redhat-linux-gnu) and I have used .exclude on some my directories.When I check the files archived using -t, only a limited number of the files have actually been tarred.It is also reporting that this is a partial dump rather than a full dump.

However a day ago The card/devices just STOPPED. I rebooted and no avail. Rebooted a second time got a IRQ 19 failure error. Then on a third try It showed up and worked fine... First post, and I apologize if it's already been covered and/or I put this in the wrong section, but I couldn't find anything quite like what I was looking for. Basically, I have been running Ubuntu on my backup machines for near a year now and I LOVE it. I want to move my main machine over to Ubuntu as well but there is one thing standing in my way: namely, my Steam collection.
I've seen on several websites and forum threads that Steam and its games run fairly well through Wine, but I've never used Wine before and am kind of nervous about setting this all up. My question is, is there any tutorial available that can walk me through getting steam working through Wine without issues? I've gotten fairly used to linux at this point, so I'm not afraid of the shell, I'm just looking for a little guidance. Also, a side question: I play Garry's Mod all the time, which I could see having lot of potential problems running on linux due to all the addons and stuff. Have any of you ever played Gmod on Ubuntu before? And if so does it work ok with most of the addons?
ive been trying to get fruity loops to run under wine and i havent been able to even get the program to show any signs of life.... it wont even start (or give any sign of starting) when i try to launch it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI cant seem to get iTunes to work no matter what I try, I installed WINE and various versions of iTunes, depending on what the guide that im following tells me to do. I usually get most of the way through and then something that i'm suppose to put into the terminal doesn't work. Itunes sometimes freezes the computer when i try and use it, and sometimes it gets to the point where it says something about not being able to work because qucktime wont work and i have to reinstall itunes, which i try to do, which does nothing.
I have a computer with a 64 bit processor, and an ipod touch. I am willing to go to whichever version of Ubuntu that works best with whichever version of itunes, i don't have anything important saved so going to a different version of the OS isn't a big deal. I have to have itunes because I have to back up my music onto something.
So, which version of Ubuntu is best with itunes (i have ubuntu 9.10) and has anyone used a guide that is proven to work recently? If their easer method of getting my music onto my computer, im open to that as well.
I got the XP 32 bit newest version of iTunes from the iTunes website. I got the newest version of Wine from the Ubuntu Software Center. I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10
So when I install iTunes it seems to work because it goes through the whole install process. But when I click the iTunes icon to launch it I Get a little box with this error message:
Apple Application Support was not found
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.
Error 2 (Windows error 2)
So what can I do to fix this? I already uninstalled then re installed iTunes like the message says to do but I still keep getting the same error.
Has anyone ever tried to run Playon.tv under wine or VirtualBox? I would like to get rid of my cable TV and I'm looking into alternatives. I don't have a Windows machine anywhere and would have to run the Playon.tv server on my ubuntu machine.

I've got two USB webcams I'm trying to get running with CentOS 5.4 x86_64. I've downloaded and installed the gspca driver from http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html. Running lsusb yields:

I have a new ipod and It was working just fine with my old windows system until I switched to ubuntu, I tried installing iTunes with wine but it didnt work and my ipod will only sync as a camera, i cant pass misuc over to the ipod and viceversa. What do i do to sync my ipod
P.S. I tried installing mulitple multimedia programs that sayd they synched to iTunes but nothing helped.
Whenever I try to run a windows game under Wine I get an error that depict I have no proper sound driver. I checked the wine config and there was only OSS option that I think it would not help me to get sound working. I think I have to use Alsa Instead but I don't know how to add Alsa support to wine. By the way in need DirectSound as well. should i download it myself and add it to system32 or there is a better way?

I am really fedup from playing .mpg (1080i) videos on linux. I tried to use smplayer or vlc but the video plays so poor, I got like scales (lines) on the video like on the screenshot embedded below (the screenshot I found on the net).
When I play the same video on windows 7 its so great with windows media player 12, when I play it with smplayer or vlc on windows 7 I got the same performance like in linux, its like windows media player has its own mpg hardware accelerator!
