I recently switched from ubuntu/mint to fedora, and I cant seem to get my wifi drivers to work. its a generic wifi usb that ubuntu, mint, and chakra have been able to automatically detect and install. is there a tarball that has all the generic drivers for ubuntu, that I can install in fedora so I can get my internet connection working?

I have been trying to get aircrack-ng program to get to work but apparently i needed a negative-one-channel-maxim patch in order for it to work successfully. I have looked over wiki of aircrack and followed the guide a few times but every time my compiled module was rejected my modprobe.

Based on the some forum that I've read, adding the MODULE_LICENSE("GPL") is one of the solution. I did add it inside usb_main_dev.c and recompile but I still get the same errors.
I've had an annoying couple of days beginning with a win7 reinstall on a dual boot system (win7/10.10) that wiped out grub. I reinstalled ubuntu (10.04) in the hopes of just getting grub2 back up, but that failed and I ended up with a new install of 10.04 on the partition and a happily functioning and coexisting win7/ubuntu wit grub working the way that I wanted.
However, I'm traveling, and tried to reinstall the wifi drivers manually. I think I messed something up and installed the 10.10 drivers onto the 10.04 system (I only had a 10.04 disk and the pendrive usb method failed). Anyway, when I tried to (re)install the drivers from the cd, I got the error: a later driver has already been installed. However, the problem at hand is as follows: now my win7 install doesn't see any of the wireless networks around. So, I think I somehow fraked the wifi card.
Ubuntu seems to think my device is disabled. The switch is on and the blue light next to the switch is also on. I read up on this on other threads, but the solution involved using the cd. I had to install from windows using the iso and alcohol 120 because my cddrive is totally dead.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi just installed ubuntu studio but i don't think it includes wifi drivers by default.the laptop i am using has worked well using vanilla ubuntu 9.10 including WiFi.i just need to know what driver packages to install.
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen i go into additional drivers, only two drivers pop up, both for my wireless card. however, i can only use the first one because if i try to use them both it breaks my wifi, forcing me to reinstall the first driver. ordinarily, this wouldnt bother me because it works with just one, but i realized the other day that the reason it takes forever to do anything internet related is because im getting pathetic transfer speeds. the highest i can remember is only 800 kb/s. ive tried standing right next to the router and it makes no difference. i know its my drivers fault because i get the same speeds at two different home wifi networks (both houses roughly the same size). my ipod gets a better connection. the driver im using is a broadcom b43 proprietary driver. the one that breaks the working driver is a broadcom STA proprietary driver. i havent bothered to try the second without the first because i just didnt think about it, but i think i will soon and see if it makes any difference. does anyone have an idea as to why my driver sucks? im tired of waiting 20 minutes to watch a 3 minute ..... video.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy debian system does not have any wifi drivers unfortunately. I suspect highly that the driver is not in the 3.2 kernel so ideally I'd like to update to a newer kernel.. However, the laptop doesn't have a network port and I don't have a network to usb cable. So in other words: updating the kernel offline using a usb stick..
View 2 Replies View RelatedAre USB WiFi adapters more likely to work in Linux than other WiFi adpaters like PCI cards etc?Im just wondering if they can use a generic USB class driver rather than having to have one for the specific chip set?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some issues compiling my WiFi card drivers. I haven't encountered this issue on any other distros (including Fedora). I would prefer to use openSuSe however so I hope someone here could tell me how to solve this.I have a fresh install of the x586 DVD, fairly complete. The issue is picture in the attached image: basically I try to run a make and I get the pictured error.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFirstly, apologies if there is anything incorrect about this request for help. Consider me an intelligent but ignorant first time Ubuntu user. I have a USB wifi adaptor, [URL]../B...ef=oss_product, which claims to be Linux compatible. It was supplied with a CD that includes a Linux directory but windows-only documentation. How do I install the drivers etc, the device is currently entirely unrecognised by Ubuntu 10.04.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having some issues and my fixes are not even close to functioning anymore.I originally downloaded this driver http:[url]... and, though I occasionally had to re- "make-install" it, it worked.Last night, I did the system updates Ubuntu suggested and this morning, my WiFi is not functioning .Here are the "common commands" and stuff I have used so far to try to debug the problem.

I am slightly confused as to why my Wireless LAN Controller doesn't come up as my Realtek 8185, but I think that may be issue number 1. The next bit of confusion comes from the fact that wlan0 is shown as connected to the correct SSID, even showing a frequency, but is not, infact, sending or receiving from that source. As I have said before, I just really nee WiFi to work.I was having issues with my sound and graphics cards,so I ran the update manager, but I wasn't expecting it to break my drivers! It is also worth noting that I have actually tried to recompile my drivers and re-install them, they don't seem to be working, for some reason.
I have a Netgear WG111v2 Wifi dongle, sadly there is no linux drivers for it. The only solution i can find is to use Ndiswrapper.
Will it be a major challenge writing a Linux driver ?
Where should i start ?
NB. I want to write my own driver for the following reasons:
Get a better understanding of Linux Device drivers. Probably, get a better understanding of C/C++ and Linux in general.
I have background in ArchLinux though, and have successfully installed, configured and used it on one workstation and two laptops. owever, i just got a new PC and spent several days trying to get Arch to run on it. Finally, i decided that i don't want to spend my time on this anymore and thought that maybe it's a sign i should try other distros (even though theoretically Linux is Linux is Linux), and Debian has always been appealing to me.
So my question is, has anybody had any experience (or issues) running Debian on the hardware mentioned above? I'm actually contemplating Ubuntu already, because there's a chance it will spare me some time and configure everything by itself, but the pride of a person who used to configure Linux from scratch doesn't let me switch to Ubuntu yet
Just got a Lexmark Pro200 wireless printer. Can anybody tell me where and how to download the relevant drivers to print using WiFi?. Went to Lexmark.com and downloaded what i thought was the correct driver and the system installed them but cannot find them. When i plug in a usb cable a message tells me that i have connected the correct printer, However when asked to search Lexmark does not even show up on the list to select and search. Was successful on my wife's Windows laptop and after trial and error on my Mac Mini.
