View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a requirement of switch between wireless network with a single wireless device. First it should be switched to adhoc mode and then after sometime switch to infrastructure mode to establish internet connection. Everything works fine except the gateway settings.
I have used:
system("route add default gw x.x.x.x dev wlan0") to set the gateway, where x.x.x.x is gatewayip address.
I have used this whenever switching happens in addition to ifconfig command to set the ip address and netmask. But this is not setting the gateway ip address. How to set gateway IP address?

I would like to configure the eth0 manually. I can configure the ip address and sub-netmask but the system can't hold my gateway ip address (I added). It will keep it 0.0.0.0. I have no problem when I getting IP address from DHCP server.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and my setup is as follows:
As you can see, I am directly connected to router 192.168.25.1, and so my ip address is 192.168.25.101. I want my ip address to be 192.168.13.101, and make router 192.168.13.1 my gateway router. Is this possible under the current physical layout (I do not want to have to connect directly into 192.168.13.1, but keep my computer where it is at)?
When I run tracepath, it shows 192.168.13.1 is one hop away.

I have trouble getting a gateway to the internet when setting eth0 with a fixed IP address. The gateway address (192.168.2.1 my modem/router) resets to 0.0.0.0 whenever I apply the changes. DHCP works fine but I need a fixed address for my server.

The problem is that my website is hosted on an external server (not on the local network), so www.mydomain.com is not found in the configured zone/subnet

I am using Fedora 10. I have a network design like that:
WinServer --- (r1)router(r0) --- (eth1)LinuxPC(eth0) --- intranetPC
All netmask is 255.255.255.0
WinServer network is 192.168.1.0/24
intranetPC network is 10.10.0.0/24, gateway is IP of the LinuxPC(eth0): 10.10.0.2

I search in Internet several days to find how to configure the LinuxPC to a gateway. The LinuxPC can ping and connect the WinServer and intranetPC correctly, but the intranetPC cannot ping and connect the WinServer network.
I used the webmin to configure the Gateway.
I used the iptables to set allow all connect, than

I could not able to configure the default gateway ip address onto the system. i use the route command (" route add default gw 192.xxx.xxx.xxx eth0 ") to add a default gateway onto the routing table but it is "disappear" in the routing table when i had restart the service network.

So i turn off the suse, switch all cables to the old fedora server, just turn it on fedora and internet works. Turn off fedora, connect suse, let it start and everythng ok...it happens all the times

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am just trying to get SSH working between 2 local machines on OpensSuse 11.4 boxes. I have the SSHD daemon running, the firewall is configured to allow SSH to pass, and I am using SSH's password authentication. However, my machines cannot see each other. Anytime I try to SSH, I get "Could not resolve hostname<hostname>: Name or service not known."
Of course, that leads me to believe I need an entry in my /etc/hosts file. However, I use DHCP, and therefore have a dynamic IP address. Therefore, my hosts names will only be good until the next IP renewal. How in the world do I configure SSH with a DHCP assigned address?
How do we configure to resolve for hostnames when an IP address is provided to the DNS server.
