On writing service httpd status it gives a message:
httpd dead but subsys locked
I have tried "rm -f /var/lock/subsys/httpd" - no solution
yum update hasn't solved my problem as well.

hard disk is 250 gb
c-155gb , d which is for recovery is 10.6gb, e-46.8gb
and an unallocated disk of 20gb
tried to install fedora which couldnt recognize the hard disk partition got ubuntu and tried.. but i dont know where it got installed now my 20 gb unallocated disk is showing as two partitions one of which is 1 gb and the rest is 18gb. how to uninstall ubuntu now. i want to repartition it and install it in proper way is 20gb enough.

The problem is that after installation of win 7 i lost the ability to boot form cd. In bios i still have cd set up to boot first and drive second, but win 7 did something that overrides bios set up. I even tried Esc for boot menu, then i select to boot form cd, but it still boots in windows. What can I do to fix this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to put some Virtual Machines on my Fedora13 box. Using KVM it just doesn't want to work quickly.... Using the v.14 LiveCD to try and install an image onto the virtual machine... took over 15 mins to get to a login screen, then I gave up attempting to log in after 5 mins from clicking the login button. I assigned the virtual box to have 1024Mb RAM and access to both CPU.
I then decided to sack it off and try and install VirtualBox... this has been a disaster. I know it's due to the fact that it wont run alongside KVM, and I've disabled KVM (as far as I am aware) - but it's still FAILING on using DKMS (Or whatever it's called - not got the error open at the mo). basically.. am I doing something wrong causing the system to run so ridiculously slowly, and how am I being thick for VirtualBox to fail to install?
I have downloaded the live iso and i was wondering if i could use usb drive (8GB) as a boot instead of burning a disk?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have ALFA awus036h wireless usb card which uses rtl8187 driver. after connecting it to my fedora13(64) machine and adjusting wicd preferences to enable wlan1 , i get the card connected to my wireless network, but actually cant browse any web site( the browser keep saying : looking up www.......), also PINGing return nothing. i tried handling the card using the built-in driver (kernel 2.6.33.6) and the driver shipped with the card, but both gave me the same result.

I really need help on wat to do. yes i want to keep my windows 7 and all its folders. when i am trying to install by specifying partitions manually. when i try to that on the 45 gbs is says no root file system defined.

I just reinstalled because I tried too many themes on that and the system appeared jammed. I could fix it; but I thought a plain reinstallation would be much less difficultNow the problem is, after reinstallation, I have to install all software such as VLC, GIMP, and plugins for mp3 and video codecs. I did know that I would have to download them again. And I will download them shortly. But I want to know is there any way I can preserve the installer of those applications and plugins to use after a fresh reinstallation or upgrade to latest version (say 10.10 for example)?
Also, I want to back up all the system updates through update manager so that I am not asked to update (by downloading 200+ MBs) after fresh reinstallation.Please note that my internet connection is very slow and its bandwidth is limited to 3GB per month. I can buy more space but you know its costly here. That why I want a way to back up all the software, plugins and application installers for further use. I have DVD writer on my machine so if I have to write a disk Im capable.
I am having trouble installing HPLIP (all versions) onto my system. When I go to configure the source code, it goes into a loop checking for a BSD install. So, to get around this I want to try and install HPLIP onto the system via a livecd. How would I go about doing this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've really borked up my Gimp. I'm running 10.04 64-bit and had at some point installed gimp but don't recall how or where I got it from. The strange part is that neither Synaptic or Ubuntu Software Center showed it as being installed.
Anyway, it started misbehaving (locking up) so I figured I'd uninstall and reinstall. That's when I discovered that the system didn't show it as being installed at all. Needless to say, I couldn't uninstall it so I decided to just reinstall over the top through Ubuntu Software Center. The installation seemed to complete normally but when I tried running it I got an error stating that there was a version mismatch for libgimp and suggesting that maybe I had gimp installed in both /usr and /usr/local. Not knowing what else to do, I uninstalled via Ubuntu Software Center and then removed all gimp related files from both /usr and /usr/local. Lastly, I reinstalled again via the Software Center.
Now when I try to launch gimp I get a box in the panel's Window List titled "Starting Gimp Image Editor" but shortly thereafter it disappears and I'm back to the desktop. I've even tried it all over again but utilizing Synaptic for the final install (as well as apt-get) with the same result - it tries to load and then... nothing. I must have deleted something essential when rooting around in /usr and /usr/local that is not replaced by reinstalling gimp but I have no idea what or where. So now what do I do? I really need gimp installed on this machine. I do have a full system backup but it's a couple of weeks old and I don't want to lose all of the changes that I've made to the system since then.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have HandBrake 0.9.4 installed from Slackbuilds.org, but a new version came out yesterday that I want to install, but it isn't up on slackbuilds yet. Can I install it from source without doing anything to the old install?
When I installed it from slackbuilds, the slackbuild script also installed all the external multimedia libraries that I need. If I use removepkg (or whatever the command is) to remove the old HandBrake before installing the new one, will that also remove the multimedia packages that were installed along with handbrake? They were all built into the same .tgz
On my work computer so I can't do anything with it right now anyway, so maybe a slackbuild will be up when I get home.
I installed VMware server on my CentOS 5 machine. I had problems getting that working. Then I installed VMware Workstation. That worked fine. Then I tried using VMware server, but apparently VMware Workstation deleted some of VMware Servers files. So, I uninstalled VMware Workstation. But it doesn't show as installed software in the Installed Software Centre. So, I cant uninstall it. I can't configure it? If I try to open Gmailwatcher I receive a popup asking me to open it from an icon above - but there's no icon there, I just want a simple email notifier - preferably one which I can add an audio alert.

Yum installed the Fedora 14 version of the programs, but installed some dependencies that were actually from Fedora 12 and 13. The output below shows what packages were installed.
