I have ALFA awus036h wireless usb card which uses rtl8187 driver. after connecting it to my fedora13(64) machine and adjusting wicd preferences to enable wlan1 , i get the card connected to my wireless network, but actually cant browse any web site( the browser keep saying : looking up www.......), also PINGing return nothing. i tried handling the card using the built-in driver (kernel 2.6.33.6) and the driver shipped with the card, but both gave me the same result.
I've a headless custom device that boots from USB using live image. Since I cannot access the device through the network, I need a way to persist boot related log files (dmesg, boot.log, messages) to view them on another computer. I also need to know how can I run custom commands on startup of live image.
I installed samba server on fedora13 last week and share some files from samba server GUI i also created samba user and password for shared folders but I can't get access samba share folder from neither fedora machine nor Windows XP When I open samba share from other fedora such as smb://192.168.10.2 I can see share file and when I browse folder, password required box is appeared but after I put samba username and password the Error message is Unable to mount location Failed to mount Windows share even when I browsed samba share from windows xp error message is \192.168.10.2smbshare is not accessible. you might not persioon to use this network resource. OK so I installed Razertool but when I try to configure it, it says: There was an error communicating with the device: Operation not permitted You may need to change the permissions of the device (see the README)
and in the GUI it reads: FIrmware Version ?.?? (NO DEVICE) As for other things like CPU and Graphics, how can I confirm these are running properly? My computer seems to lag a bit. As for graphics, everytime I try to enable the desktop effects it errors and says: Accelerated 3D graphics is not available

If so how do I install it using yum, have been unsucessfull so far. It is for the alfa AWUS036H, RTL8187 chipset.
I'm running Fedora 15, and am trying to run a program that uses gsoap/soapcpp2 2.7.17 to communicate with different parts of the program. As far as I know everything has compiled correctly and I am using the same versions of the required libraries as several working installations. However, every single time the program tries to open a port, the program is unable to do so. This happens no matter what port I specify.
if there is anything in fedora that would limit or disable the ability of the program to open a port to start communicating. I have tried disabling the firewall with no change to the behaviour.
I created a custom trap in my bashrc that will run a command in all open terminals. The problem is, after the command is executed, the cursor isn't preceded by the bash prompt (i.e., PS1); it's just on a blank line. If I hit Enter, I get the bash prompt back.
I've tried some basic things like echo -e " " > /dev/pts/1 with no luck. I also tried to see if there's a signal associated with the Enter key because then I could have sent the signal to all the terminals, but I didn't find a signal like that.
Is there a way to send a keystroke to another terminal, so that it thinks that I hit the Enter key directly in it?
Or, if this is easier, is there a way to get the terminal to print out PS1? Echo will just display its contents, but won't evaluate, and eval can't evaluate it.

Everytime I get HPLip working with my printer, it will only work until I shutdown the computer. On next restart, it no longer works and the only way to get it to work again is to delete the printer configs in hplip and re-create them!

I am stuck at a issue in shell scripting. I had tried all the possible ways, yet unable to reach a solutions. I am working on a application, which runs on C shell. For this I had created a installation script, which installs my application in the system, it is working fine. Now, the problematic part is that I had set an alias in ".cshrc" file, which invokes my application when any user types it. But for an alias to take effect, I need to re-login into the system, because I have to read ".cshrc" file again, in order to take effect of my alias. However I can use "source ~/.cshrc" file after my installation, so that my aliasing works without logging back again. But Requirement is that, just after installing the application, alias should be available to user, without logging back again and without issuing any extra command.
I had tried one other way is that, I had created a symbolic link in ~/bin directory, which points to my application to be run, but even that require, to issue rehash command in order to modify internal command hash table. So, my overall problem is that changing alias in subshell should be reflected to parent shell,without running any other command (all commands should be run in installation script only). Or, in other way how to rehash parent shell from subshell. The ultimate requirement is that,the command that will run my application, should be available just after executing the installation script, either by aliasing or by rehashing, or by any other means.
The ipcs command shows the facilities of IPC in Linux, but it does not shows the processes that communicating to each others. How can I list the processes, which is currently communicating in IPC ?
I have windows xp on my dell but I lost the drivers disk so I want to install linux Fedora 13 instead and wipe the windows xp. I burned the iso to a dvd and loaded up the live session user and used "Install to harddrive" but when I get to the partitioning window there is no harddrives to install to so I cant overwrite the windows drive (/C:)..
On a fresh Fedora 13 install, I have done:su yum install vncand:su yum install vnc-serveryum installs tigervnc and tigervnc-server with no errors. However, when I go into /etc/sysconfig/ to edit vncservers, vncservers does not exist. Also, there is no vnc service listed in the services, and doing:sudo service vncserver restartreturns the message:vncserver: unrecognized service
I am using fedora12 and i was wondering whether i could upgrade my fedora12 to fedora13!!i dont want to start installing fedora13 all over again(boot it again from a cd),i want to just upgrade it directly from my fedora12.when you install fedora13 will all the files of fedora12 get replaced with fedora13 or will it just add additional files onto your fedora12?
I am attempting to put some Virtual Machines on my Fedora13 box. Using KVM it just doesn't want to work quickly.... Using the v.14 LiveCD to try and install an image onto the virtual machine... took over 15 mins to get to a login screen, then I gave up attempting to log in after 5 mins from clicking the login button. I assigned the virtual box to have 1024Mb RAM and access to both CPU.
I then decided to sack it off and try and install VirtualBox... this has been a disaster. I know it's due to the fact that it wont run alongside KVM, and I've disabled KVM (as far as I am aware) - but it's still FAILING on using DKMS (Or whatever it's called - not got the error open at the mo). basically.. am I doing something wrong causing the system to run so ridiculously slowly, and how am I being thick for VirtualBox to fail to install?
I am having trouble with computers communicating on the wireless lan. However, if I ssh into the wireless access point and then ssh into another computer on the wlan, that works fine. The draw backs to that is I am restricted to only ssh and without X forwarding. So what I would like to do is set up ssh port forwarding so that computer2 with vnc server 5900 on the lan will be accessible through 40000 on mycomputer using the wireless router's ssh as the go-between with ssh port forwarding. How can I accomplish that? Every time I read about this, I think I understand it, and but then I must have done something wrong because it's not working the way I thought. I have successfully done ssh port forwarding in the past without using a third computer as a go between. Both the wlan access point/router and computer2 are running an ssh server.

I have installed fedora 13 recently and installed IDPS(snort) on it. But now I am not able to start service httpd. When I write service httpd start, it says OK, but I know it is a false message bcoz when I write service httpd stop it gives me Failed.
On writing service httpd status it gives a message: httpd dead but subsys locked I have tried "rm -f /var/lock/subsys/httpd" - no solution yum update hasn't solved my problem as well.

I have Ubuntu 9.10. My USB WG111v3 Wireless Card uses the rtl8187 driver. This driver is buggy. I would like to use Ndiswrapper instead. How to make it so Ubuntu doesn't load the rtl8187 driver but Ndiswrapper instead?
OK, after searching several dozen posts I still have no clear answer to a problem connecting to the internet with my Alfa AWUS036H Wireless USB adaptor. (Computer is an Aspire 5516 w/ AMD Athlon 64 processor)The device shows up in the network manager, (with great signal strength on many local AP's)and works well with Aircrack for security testing, which is why I got it in the 1st place. However my onboard Antheros wifi card just does not receive as well, thus I'd like to be able to use the Alfa for internet. Any thoughts here would be appreciated.
I have a acer aspire. I recently dual booted with xp and fedora14. we have wifi in the campus and the problem is : I am able to connect to wifi & browse in xp but on the other hand with fedora I am able to connect and the signal is also pretty strong, but I am not able to browse.I am using a firefox mozilla, we also have a proxy for which I have configured all the setttings.The error being displayed is "connection time out".
if I click on Network in the side bar I get Could not display "network:///" Nautilus cannot handle "network" locations.so how do I browse the "samba" network? why doesn't this work out of the box?
I have installed apache using the appropriate 'yum' commands.I didn't experience any problems during the installation.My problem is that I am not able to see any php file I created myself (I have installed php too).The only php file I can see is the one I created using this:
