View 2 RepliesI recently installed KArmic Kola on my DELL E6400 - 9600 INTEL PROCESSOR, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GRAPHIC QUADRO 160. I have the following issues which is making me nervous to work on the system
- System keeps crashing - all of sudden the Caps button LED, NUM LOCK LED keeps blinking and system freezes for a while and restarts

The internal wireless is not being detected, so I bought a DLink Nano. In following the driver install guides I receive the following error when trying to create drivers;

I have recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 in my Dell Latitude E6400. Everything works great except that I cannot disable the built in microphone. I have even disabled from the BIOS but the mic continues working, this is really annoying as I do lots of calling from this computer for my work.
I have played around with the alsamixer and the sound preferences but I haven't been able to disable it or at least lower its volume.
My headset is plugged in to the mic jack and it works fine. The problem is that both the headset and the internal mic are working at the same time.
having a weird problem with my wireless connection on a Dell Latitude E6400 laptop. This machine has a Dell 1510 half-card. It uses a Broadcom chipset.I've gotten to the point where fedora sees the card, and I can create wireless connections. But every time I try to connect to a network, it scans, connects, and disconnects several times, until it gets a completely bogus IP address, that has nothing to do with any of the networks onnect to. It is always "10.42.43.1", yet I have no static configuration for that address.

I have installed several flavors of Linux on this box Ubuntu, Mint and a few others so I figured I would try the most challenging disto Slackware 13.37... I had not trouble getting through the install but when the system boots it just shuts down at some point during the boot process.

I'm using the NVidia software, external drivers and everything was working before.
Is there something I missed during the upgrade?
I've managed to get dual monitor support working, but it seems a little sub-standard.
- I can't find how to alter the relative y offsets of each screen
- I can't drag windows from one side to the other
I have an NVIDIA 9800 GTX. I have 2 DELL monitors connect to this card, one is a 24" and the other is 21".
I am unable to use Xinerama mode with Unity, because for some reason after logging in, I get no desktop interface, only background wallpaper, and I have to force reboot.
How can I setup dual monitors in Ubuntu using Unity properly? Note that I do NOT want to use TwinView, since this results in dead space around the smaller monitor.
I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.

My software and hardware information are as follows. I have Fedora 12 and KDE 4.4.5 installed on a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. I believe it's a 64 bit processor; it's an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. The external monitor is a Dell as well.
My problem is that my system does not seem to be detecting an external monitor that I have connected. Everything else is working just fine; however, I would like to have the option of attaching an external monitor. When I plug the external monitor into the laptop, the external monitor remains black and appears to be in power save mode. The results of xrandr -q (with or without the external monitor attached: it doesn't appear to change) are as follows.

How can I get my laptop to recognize that the external monitor is even connected? Let me know if I can be more specific or provide additional details.
I am planning on buying a DELL Monitor for my desktop. Now, I would like to have one which has an in-built camera. Also, my operating system is going to be Linux. Will I have any driver related issues for monitor as well as for the in-built camera.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've installed the drivers from nVidia. When I go into the NVIDIA X Server Settings application, in the X Server Display Configuration setcion, and click the "Configure" button, "TwinView" is disabled. Also, clicking "Detect Displays" doesn't pick up my monitor (which is connected through a port replicator - keyboard and mouse in that port replicator work fine).
Has anyone else seen this? Is this just a limitation of the current nvidia linux drivers?
I've been trying to get it to work on my laptop off and on for several years now, experimenting first with Redhat (version 6.1, I think) and now trying with Ubuntu 9.04. I've done a full install using the entire hard drive (no dual boot). So I'm trying it for real this time. I'm having a problem with my video drivers. The video is ok (not great) and I don't seem to have any options to adjust it.
When I go into system > preferences > display, I see monitor "unknown", set at 1024x768 with a 75 Hz refresh. If I click on "detect monitors" nothing happens. It says under system > administration > hardware drivers that "no proprietary drivers are in use on this system". I've got two options:

For the first part of boot, I have access, but then when it comes up into Ubuntu, the big monitor (a Dell 2500, I think, plugged into the stock Toshiba docking station via DVI) quits working, and all I have is a dim picture (dark, like something's sapping power from it) on the laptop display.....
This is a repost of my initial problem, I need some one who knows what they are doing more than I too take a look at this command output and give some sort of direction/clue/etc on what I'm doing wrong or missing.
Is my xorg.conf missing some vital line(s) or setting?
My best guess is that i'm missing something to tell the Xserver to use both screens, as the Xorg.0.log does not talk about trying to bring up the intel display; but this is just a hunch.
I'm running kubuntu 9.04 with 2 monitors: on-board intel video and a PCI nvidia display: I am using my nvidia display fine, but still can not get my 2nd display (the intel) working. What the heck am I missing?

just setup suse 11.3 , put on the Nvidia 19.29-22.1 drivers via yast , no kms is set in inetd , nomodeset on grub boot line etc... Even tried installing the driver " the hard way " dual monitors come up, setup xinerama to "Extend" my desktop , and the main monitor ( right side ) is good, visually the left monitor (2ndary) is good.. but whenever I move my mouse over to the left screen the mouse pointer dissapears, flickers along the right hand border of that screen... and if i move the cursor back to the original screen i have to really fight to get it back to the main screen....Copy of my xorg.conf , still very basic...

My Dell Precision Workstation was shipped in 2003 with RH Linux installed (most likely RHEL 4) - though not sure.
At the time, the dual monitors worked by replacing the X86config file with one sent from Dell.
Since, my disk failed and I had to replace the disk and reinstall RH Linux with the shipped disks, RHEL 5.
Now, I can not find X86config; rather, I have been trying to update the Xorg.conf file with no to limited success.
Both monitors are driven off of one Nvidia Quadro FX 1300 videocard. My goal is to get the screen to span both.
Does anyone have a Xorg.conf file that would support this?
I just upgrade to F14 from F10 on a dual montor setup. Firefox behaives differently on F14 than on F10.
On F10 it followed the mouse pointer's location and show up on the correct monitor
When maximized at close, it is always displayed on the left monitor. When not maximized at close it will open on the monitor where the mouse pointer is located.
About minimize/maximize Firefoxe before closing and it seems to work in some case, but not for me.
I have a dual monitor setup in Ubuntu, with my main monitor on the right and the monitor I want to extend to on the left monitor, but I can't seem to get it to do this, it always has the 'desktop' on the left monitor and then extends onto what I want to be my main monitor. I have an ATI Radeon 4350 Graphics card.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOne monitor is working fine but the display is not coming on other monitor. I guess no problem in monitor because I swapped the cable to check the individual monitor. When I try to install the new driver its giving GCC-VERSION-CHECK while installing. And I do not think I have to install the new driver because it has already one. What should I do to configure the dual monitor. Do I have to edit any configuration file.
My system configuration details are below.

My dual monitor no longer works. I downloaded the new patch for my video card and apparently the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 and Linux do not like each other?
1)Should I just remove the driver?
2)If I did would the old driver pick up because although it had a few faults, at least I could use both monitors after a lil engineering
3)If I were to remove the driver, where would I do it from?
I've been using my laptop with an external LCD monitor attached to it at work (Philips 201E). And at home with a different external monitor (Samsung 2032BW).I have an ATI graphics card (HD3450), with Ati Catalyst drivers enabled and I'm using the Single display desktop (Multi-Desktop) seeting. At work I have the external monitor on the left and laptop on the right, while at home the other way around. So when I switch between the two setups, I just needed to go to Ati Catalyst Control Center, change the order of the displays, change the resolution (Home - 1680x1050, Work - 1440x900), reboot and it was all fine.
But since a while it doesn't work properly anymore: At home it still works fine. At work it doesn't work. Sometimes it works for some reason, after a few resolution/setting changes in ACCC and reboots... it's very strange and annoying. With the home monitor I can see the whole bootup process on both monitors (laptop + LCD) and it always just works fine. With the work monitor on the external LCD monitor I just see "No video input" until I get to the login screen, then it shows up there as well. But after login it will either:

I am attempting to get a Dual Monitor Display using aticonfig (and/or manual editing my xorg.conf file). My graphics card (a Radeon HD 4350 with latest ati drivers ) has only a single output but I am using a splitter cable to connect it to two monitors.
I am want one monitor to be 1600x1200 and the second monitor to be 800x600.
This is the command I had tried to no avail.
aticonfig -fq --initial --dtop=horizontal,reverse --resolution=0,1600x1200,1280x1024,1024x768 --mode2=800x600
What am I missing? Should I be using this configuration utility? Or should I be trying to manual edit my xorg.config? All the information I have been able to find seems specific to Dual Head Displays.
EDIT: It occurs to me to post my edited xorg.conf file

At Dell we have worked hard to build out the Dell Consumer Support Home Page to be a thorough support website providing all levels of self-support service, as well as providing easy access to all of the relevant information needed to obtain assisted support. The design of the page has grown organically over time, but we feel it's time to give the look/feel of the page a facelift.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to use dual monitors in Fedora 14 using an AMD ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics card (not that I think that has anything to do with anything, but who knows), and want it to where my second monitor is its own virtual workspace so that I can switch between my other workspaces on my original monitor without switching the workspace on the second monitor. This way, I can watch movies or what-not on my TV (2nd monitor) while working on my original monitor. The only thing I found that was even close was setting the 2nd monitor up on it's on x server, which I don't want to do. Also, as it is now, I have my panel on my original monitor, but the windows do not see it when I have it aligned on the right (the windows don't adjust their size to account for the fact that it is there). I know a way I can do a work-around for this, but I would like to know if there is a "correct" way to do this. I know I can tell the movie player to show on all workspaces and have it on the 2nd monitor.
