General :: Dual Monitor Configuration In RHEL 3?

Aug 10, 2011

One monitor is working fine but the display is not coming on other monitor. I guess no problem in monitor because I swapped the cable to check the individual monitor. When I try to install the new driver its giving GCC-VERSION-CHECK while installing. And I do not think I have to install the new driver because it has already one. What should I do to configure the dual monitor. Do I have to edit any configuration file.

My system configuration details are below.
Redhat version : Redhat Enterprise Linux WS release 3 (Taroon update 4)
Driver in SRBC 26: NVIDIA-LINUX-x86_64-1.0-7664-pkg2.run
Nvidia card model : Quadro fx p171
Bios version of Nvidia : 4.35.20.23.07
p/n : 900-50171-0400-0000K

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Monitor Configuration Dual Cards?

Feb 11, 2010

I'm having a rather hard time getting my 3 monitors setup as one display. I can get all three to work without too much heartburn using 3 separate X instances. The monitors are on 2 different video cards, one dual heads. The other on it's own card.

I've tried countless ways to get this to work, and I'm just not feeling the love. There are 2 17 inch monitors on the 1 video card and then the second video card has a 24 inch monitor on it. I can get the two monitors on one head to work with twinview, but the third one is left out.

The physical configuration looks like this..

17inch on the left of the 24 inch monitor, and another 17 inch monitor on the right, with the 24 inch monitor being in the center.

I'm going to include my current xorg.conf and lspci.

xorg.conf

Code:
harry@ubuntu:~$ cat /etc/X11/x
xinit/ xkb/ xorg.conf xorg.conf.backup
harry@ubuntu:~$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

SUSE :: Dual Monitor Xorg Configuration With Different Resolutions?

Oct 31, 2010

I have been tasked to set up 2 monitors on SUSE Linux Enterprise that are a clone of each other, but each displaying different resolutions. The primary display has a max resolution of 1024x768 while the secondary display has a max resolution of 800x600.

The problem comes when the secondary display shows a "cropped" version of the desktop. Is there anyway to show different resolutions on each display while maintaining the proper desktop look?

Debian Multimedia :: Dual Monitor Configuration For Extended Desktop

They were working fine for the same setup on ubuntu.

Using xrandr I get:

I read that virtual screen size could be the maximum part which is of no use in comparison to the current size.

So setting a virtual part in my xorg does not help much. If the above is right.

I have:

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Kde / Nvidia Slow Down With Dual Monitor Configuration - Resolve It?

Mar 4, 2011

I run opensuse 11.3/kde desktop.
- updated to KDE:Factory
- X11 repository (V1.9.3)
- proprietary nvidia drivers (260.19.36)

Video card is a Quadro NVS 290. A dual head configuration using twinview is run.

The desktop becomes slow almost immediately (couple of seconds) after logging in (all applications). Turning off desktop effects does not make a difference as well as trying the various recipes on the internet regarding x.org conf-files.
The only action restoring responsiveness is to simply start nvidia-settings. Putting the following pseudo-action into a script-file and mapping it to a key allows to have a workable environment:

nvidia-settings -a PixmapCache=0 && nvidia-settings -a PixmapCache=1

It is very annoying having to press a key every minute or so. Instead of creating a cronjob I would like to solve this issue. This behavior has been consistent across kde/x-org/nvidia/kernel updates for many month now.

Ubuntu :: External Monitor As A Main Screen In Dual-output Configuration?

Feb 19, 2010

I'm using dual-screen output with KDE 4.4 on my laptop. Is it possible to have the KDE panel on the external monitor if attached and back on the laptop's LCD panel as soon as the monitor is disconnected?

It seems that Plasma prefers the built-in LCD even if an external monitor is connected. I tried various settings with xrandr and also in the System Settings but none of them helped. The only way to move the KDE panel to the external screen is to disable the built-in LCD.

What I would basically like to do is to use the external monitor as primary in the office and the laptop LCD next to it as a second screen. When I'm traveling I'd like to use only the laptop LCD.

Is there also a nice way to switch between the screens? On the Internet I found a script for the "screen switch" key for IBM Thinkpad and modified it to work on my Dell. But it would be nice to have this also automatic: autodetect the monitor attachment/removal and perform a configured action. The KRandr doesn't seem to have such a feature. Is there anything I could use?

My system is: Kubuntu 9.10 with KDE 4.4 upgrade. Hardware: Dell Inspiron 1545 with Intel GM45 card.

The problem is that I have never had to do this before, I have no idea what "pass a boot parameter" means.

Also there is no fonts.dir file, which describes fonts under a specific fonts directory in /usr/share/fonts tree. But we can find fonts.dir or fonts.scale file under /usr/share/X11/fonts/ tree. Does files under /usr/share/fonts tree are not dependent on fonts.dir ?

Red Hat :: How To Dual Boot RHEL 5.2 And RHEL 5.4

Sep 25, 2009

Environment:RHEL 5.2 and 5.4 AP x86_64, 2 drives (sda, sdb), installing without optional features like clustering and virtualization. I have tried this for a couple of days now and just can't get it to work. My goal is to take the RHEL 5.2 DVD and RHEL 5.4 DVD and install them on separate drives of the same machine. I want the grub menu to give me a choice. I prefer to understand the steps and choices offered me by the install dialog to do this rather than fiddle with grub.conf. If that is not possible, I will write up the bug.

So far, I just get the the error 13 when trying to start the grub added second OS. I have read elsewhere that "Anaconda frequently recognizes the other operating system and sets up grub so you can boot from either operating system". That would be nice. The install dialog lets me choose a drive to install to. I have figured out that I need to check "review and modify partitioning layout" to enter the advanced grub choices. Do I have it install a boot loader for the 1st OS? Trying to add the 1st OS during the second OS install creates a grub conf with no kernel line in the added boot stanza.

Hardware :: Dual Monitor - 2nd Monitor Not Coming Up - Xorg.conf Missing Something?

Oct 19, 2009

This is a repost of my initial problem, I need some one who knows what they are doing more than I too take a look at this command output and give some sort of direction/clue/etc on what I'm doing wrong or missing.

Is my xorg.conf missing some vital line(s) or setting?

My best guess is that i'm missing something to tell the Xserver to use both screens, as the Xorg.0.log does not talk about trying to bring up the intel display; but this is just a hunch.

I'm running kubuntu 9.04 with 2 monitors: on-board intel video and a PCI nvidia display: I am using my nvidia display fine, but still can not get my 2nd display (the intel) working. What the heck am I missing?

Even tried installing the driver " the hard way " dual monitors come up, setup xinerama to "Extend" my desktop , and the main monitor ( right side ) is good, visually the left monitor (2ndary) is good.. but whenever I move my mouse over to the left screen the mouse pointer dissapears, flickers along the right hand border of that screen... and if i move the cursor back to the original screen i have to really fight to get it back to the main screen....Copy of my xorg.conf , still very basic...

General :: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Dual Monitor Works Only Sometimes (ATI Multi-desktop)

Jul 7, 2011

I've been using my laptop with an external LCD monitor attached to it at work (Philips 201E). And at home with a different external monitor (Samsung 2032BW).I have an ATI graphics card (HD3450), with Ati Catalyst drivers enabled and I'm using the Single display desktop (Multi-Desktop) seeting. At work I have the external monitor on the left and laptop on the right, while at home the other way around. So when I switch between the two setups, I just needed to go to Ati Catalyst Control Center, change the order of the displays, change the resolution (Home - 1680x1050, Work - 1440x900), reboot and it was all fine.

But since a while it doesn't work properly anymore: At home it still works fine. At work it doesn't work. Sometimes it works for some reason, after a few resolution/setting changes in ACCC and reboots... it's very strange and annoying. With the home monitor I can see the whole bootup process on both monitors (laptop + LCD) and it always just works fine. With the work monitor on the external LCD monitor I just see "No video input" until I get to the login screen, then it shows up there as well. But after login it will either:

General :: Dual Monitor Using Aticonfig Single Head & Splitter Cable

May 27, 2010

I am attempting to get a Dual Monitor Display using aticonfig (and/or manual editing my xorg.conf file). My graphics card (a Radeon HD 4350 with latest ati drivers ) has only a single output but I am using a splitter cable to connect it to two monitors.

I am want one monitor to be 1600x1200 and the second monitor to be 800x600.

This is the command I had tried to no avail.

aticonfig -fq --initial --dtop=horizontal,reverse --resolution=0,1600x1200,1280x1024,1024x768 --mode2=800x600

What am I missing? Should I be using this configuration utility? Or should I be trying to manual edit my xorg.config? All the information I have been able to find seems specific to Dual Head Displays.

EDIT: It occurs to me to post my edited xorg.conf file

General :: Xorg Configuration For External Monitor?

Oct 15, 2010

A few days ago I installed browserlinux onto my AspireOne netbook whilst connected to a 15" external monitor of 1024x768 at 60Hz. During installation I ran the Puppy Xorg Wizard with the netbook's monitor (1024x600) switched off. It selected the optimum resolution of my external monitor correctly as 1024x768 and the 'intel' driver for the Intel 945 Express chipset. However when I ran programs and maximised their windows they would cut off about a third from the bottom. I ran the Xorg Resolution Wizard which showed a resolution of 1024x600 despite xorg.conf only showing an option of 1024x768. I tried to copy a xorg.conf from Linpus (Fedora 8) which had required some altering in the past to run the external monitor at the correct resolution but X failed to start (possibly because Xorg in browserlinux is a newer release). Would it be possible for someone to upload a xorg.conf file which would enable display the external monitor at the correct resolution (and ideally allow switching between the two monitors - under Linpus the hotkey is Fn + 4) or suggest alterations to the current file?

Fedora :: Dual Monitor / Dual Workspace?

Apr 23, 2011

I am attempting to use dual monitors in Fedora 14 using an AMD ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics card (not that I think that has anything to do with anything, but who knows), and want it to where my second monitor is its own virtual workspace so that I can switch between my other workspaces on my original monitor without switching the workspace on the second monitor. This way, I can watch movies or what-not on my TV (2nd monitor) while working on my original monitor. The only thing I found that was even close was setting the 2nd monitor up on it's on x server, which I don't want to do. Also, as it is now, I have my panel on my original monitor, but the windows do not see it when I have it aligned on the right (the windows don't adjust their size to account for the fact that it is there). I know a way I can do a work-around for this, but I would like to know if there is a "correct" way to do this. I know I can tell the movie player to show on all workspaces and have it on the 2nd monitor.
