Fedora :: Dual Monitor / Dual Workspace?

Apr 23, 2011

I am attempting to use dual monitors in Fedora 14 using an AMD ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics card (not that I think that has anything to do with anything, but who knows), and want it to where my second monitor is its own virtual workspace so that I can switch between my other workspaces on my original monitor without switching the workspace on the second monitor. This way, I can watch movies or what-not on my TV (2nd monitor) while working on my original monitor. The only thing I found that was even close was setting the 2nd monitor up on it's on x server, which I don't want to do. Also, as it is now, I have my panel on my original monitor, but the windows do not see it when I have it aligned on the right (the windows don't adjust their size to account for the fact that it is there). I know a way I can do a work-around for this, but I would like to know if there is a "correct" way to do this. I know I can tell the movie player to show on all workspaces and have it on the 2nd monitor.

Debian :: XFCE4 Workspace Stretch On Dual Monitor

Feb 18, 2016

I have been encounter 2 bugs on 2 sides of the coin. Seems it doesn't fix since Wheezy till now.

1. When I don't install any nonfree firmware I'm stuck at 1024x768 resoultions unable to turn to 1366x768
2. But when I install nonfree firmware my 1366x768 was solved but I encounter other new bugs

>> On Jessie: XFCE4.10 doesn't save any wallpaper everytime when reboot the pc & always reset to default.
But when remove nonfree firmware the bg save normally but I've to stuck at 1024x768 resulotion.
This also happen on Wheezy as well.
>> On Stretch: XFCE4.12 workspace become too long ugly.
But when remove nonfree firmware the workspace become normal
but I've to stuck at 1024x768 resulotion once again.

So any way with nonfree installed without this XFCE bugs or without nonfree driver install but make resolution 1366x768 work for not to stuck in 1024x768 resolutions. Overall I'm quite satisfy Stretch testing than Jessie Stable.

Fedora :: Dual Monitor F12/Radeon?

Nov 19, 2009

Long time reader, first time poster to the forums. I have installed Fedora 12 onto a desktop here. Fresh install and fully updated as of today. In this system there is a radeon 7000 graphics card that Fedora set up dual display for me. This is working fine but unfortunately im seeing a problem with the top and bottom of one of the displays.

Please see the problem here: [URL]... The mouse will go underneath or above the areas i have pointed to. Any ideas what is wrong? In fedora 9, 10, 11 this was all working fine but i did have to use xrandr manually to get dual display working. Edit: Update:

I dd not mention that i kept my home directory. On futher inspection it seems that the issue is because of a .folder in my home directory that was backed up and restored on the fresh install. To check this i added a new user to the system and logged in with a fresh home directory. Does anyone know which folder or file this setting this is stored? I tried logging out, moving .gconf .gconfd .gnome2 .gnome2_private and the .gtk folders to another location then logged in to no avail.

1) I got a dual screen and I can drag applications on screen No2. But if I log out, reboot or close the application, it will go back to screen No1. Is it possible to memorize the position of an application on Screen No2?

2) I use workspace a lot. I like to split them by function. I got "Development": Netbeans, firefox (one on each screen), "communication": Evolution, gwibber, empathy (Evolution on 1 and the rest on 2) and "Entertainment" (anything not involving work)Every morning, I have to move my applications to the diferent workspace. It would be great if on startup they just go where I told them to be!

Fedora Hardware :: Dual Monitor Not Working

Jun 28, 2010

I know there are a lot of dual monitor threads.I've read them, and I even checked at the nvidia forum.I don't see something similar enough to my problem so I'm thinking maybe it's not a driver issue.I'm running F12, both monitors were working and I configured them properly and they were fine.Yesterday I installed the nvidia drivers as per Leigh's tutorial.Once I got that sorted out and rebooted, my secondary monitor was no longer registering.I checked in display settings and it does not recognize the second monitor.I tried going to system->administration->display but after I authenticate nothing happens.

Hardware :: Dual Monitor Setup In Fedora 13

I am running Fedora 13 on a PC I built myself - MSI motherboard 785-E53. It has onboard DVI which my primary monitor is hooked to. I added an older 17" CRT to the onboard analog output and the main desktop with my icons and panels immediately switched to the CRT. Kernel is 2.6.34.7-66.fc13.i686, lspci -v says VGA compatible controller ATI Technologies Inc RS880 (Radeon HD 4200). How can I get flatscreen on the DVI output to be the primary?

Fedora Hardware :: Dual Monitor/nv/nouveau Does Not Work

Jul 4, 2010

I have just upgraded from Fedora 11 to Fedora 13 and now can't get my two monitors working as a single "screen" (it worked under F11). I have a GeForce video card with two monitor outputs

lspci -v
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G73 [GeForce 7600 GT] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Device 1acc:0846
Flags: 66MHz, medium devsel, IRQ 16

[code]...

I then edit the xorg.conf to change the driver from nouveau to nv and I can start X and the LCD displays the desktop at a resolution of 1680x1050 (good) but the CRT just displays random blocks of colour. At this point I also get a kernel crash - see dmesg output attached, but the system is then OK to use. I have tried editing the xorg.conf to add a second monitor and a virtual screen resolution to match the two monitors (1024x768 + 1680x1050) combined (2704x1050) but still only the LCD monitor works, but with the virtual desktop that can be nudged around with the mouse. I would like to get back to using both monitors with a virtual screen across the two monitors.

Fedora :: NVIDIA Bin Driver - Gnome3 - Dual Monitor ?

May 25, 2011

I have recently installed FC15 on my system. Dual monitor support seems to be broken with my setup. I am using the latest NVIDIA binary blob driver (270.41.19). I compiled my own kernel for it, version 2.6.39.

When gnome3 starts it almost manages to boot up, but then it crashes and gives me the option of logging out. I have my system booting into target 'multi-user.target' since I was doing some other stuff and I use `startx' to start gnome3. I tried running having X use xinerama and not use xinerama, both cause gnome3 to crash, albeit in different ways. Other than that I am running a stock install as far as I know.

If there are some logs I should be looking at for gnome3.

Fedora :: Dual Monitor - Window Maximizes To Full Screen?

Feb 11, 2010

I just rebuilt my fedora box and I'm having some problems getting dual monitors to work. First, I can't reposition my secondary monitor to be on the left. It thinks it's on the right. I can use xrandr to fix this, but that is annoying. Is there no way to do this in the display properties? Second, maximizing a window makes it go across all screens. I unchecked this option in the display properties.I also unchecked the one for letting windows be in multiple monitors at once, but this still happens.

Fedora Hardware :: F12 Upgrade - NVidia Card - Dual Monitors - Only One Monitor

Nov 26, 2009

I used preupgrade to upgrade from F11 to F12. In F11, I used the proprietary nVidia drivers from rpmfusion, and they worked well. I have refrained from installing the nVidia drivers in F12, because of the problems reported for users of KDE. I removed my old xorg.conf, which has references to the nVidia driver and to "TwinView," the proprietary method of managing two screens, so as to let X discover both monitors.

Now, however, my second monitor stays black, even though xrandr and KDE RandR show both monitors correctly. Xorg.0.log shows the nouveau driver is loaded. (I also tried to create a new xorg.conf following guidelines from the web, but many of the guidelines are from before xrandr, and I'm not confident I have it right yet.) It seems that X believes I have two monitors, because I can drag a window off into the blackness (and it's never heard from again!) I know that the hardware is working, because I just booted into Windows 7, and I could see the desktop on both windows.

How do I convince X and KDE to display on both monitors?

Fedora :: Get The VGA To Work Is When We Have Another Monitor Plugged Into The DVI Port And Dual Head The System?

Jun 18, 2010

I've been troubleshooting a friends computer and we've pretty well hit a brick wall. The issue at hand is the video card will not output properly. To be specific, it's an NVidia card with both DVI and VGA ports. We want it to output via the VGA and ignore the DVI because there's nothing plugged in there (the monitor we want to use doesn't support DVI). At any rate, the only time we can get the VGA to work is when we have another monitor plugged into the DVI port and dual head the system. When we do this it also adds an extra "Unknown Monitor" to the display panel. When we just use the DVI the extra "monitor" disappears. now we don't want to have monitor sitting here useless just so we can use the vga out, but there seems little else to do. We tried installing the Nvidia proprietary drivers through the software manager and yum and it failed both ways.

This is really frustrating because it seems like it should be such a simple thing but nothing works. Does anyone else have similar issues? is there something i can do to fix this? I apologize if i've not provided enough info, but ask and i'll post anything you need to diagnose.

Hardware :: Dual Monitor - 2nd Monitor Not Coming Up - Xorg.conf Missing Something?

Oct 19, 2009

This is a repost of my initial problem, I need some one who knows what they are doing more than I too take a look at this command output and give some sort of direction/clue/etc on what I'm doing wrong or missing.

Is my xorg.conf missing some vital line(s) or setting?

My best guess is that i'm missing something to tell the Xserver to use both screens, as the Xorg.0.log does not talk about trying to bring up the intel display; but this is just a hunch.

I'm running kubuntu 9.04 with 2 monitors: on-board intel video and a PCI nvidia display: I am using my nvidia display fine, but still can not get my 2nd display (the intel) working. What the heck am I missing?
