I once used an alternate key as a shortcut of deleting in dolphin. After that, I want to revert to the default key DEL in dolphin so I reset the shortcuts. But I find it doesn't work any more. What's more the shortcut notice following the "Move to Trash" in the right click menu also goes away, i.e. just a blank,shown in attachment. What should I do?

I am having KDE and also gnome desktops. DOlphin file manager was working properly but suddenly now it stopped working in KDE. If I click the icon it just swings near the mouse for some time and nothing comes. Previously immediately after I click it used to come. But in gnome it still opens.

I tried to move a file to the trash when I got this error message: "The trash has reached its maximum size! Cleanup the trash manually." I don't have any files in the trash. I went back to Gnome, and was able to delete the file. I opened up Dolphin while still in Gnome, and couldn't delete anything, so I know that this isn't a KDE problem

When I installed, I knew I should not have made using the browser to be password needed, but it was too late so I am stuck with it. As I haven't used it for a while I have fotgotten the user and pwd for this area. How can I find it or negate it so I have access once I put the localhost url in the broswer?

I use a small partition for my entire Kubuntu install, and use separate, larger partitions for my media and work files.
I opened up Dolphin (my KDE file manager) via GUI, navigated to my media partition, and attempted to create a new folder by
right-click->
Create New->
New Folder-> etc
The Create New in the menu is ghosted out, as if I have no permission to access it.
How can I write files to the drive?
I have high amount of data stored on MSN Skydrive But I do not know of a skydrive client that runs on Linux, which lets you store, in conclusion, to manage those files. I know there are other vendors that do have, for example, DropBox, but for different reasons, are not an option for me. You know, that client exists, SkyDrive for Linux, and is compatible with Dolphin or Nautilus.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi am using dolphin 1.5 in kde 4.5.2. whenever i try to access movie file from remote samba server. dolphin copies the movie file to somewhere in local hard disk. so, i have to wait until a big file transferring complete. i know that it happens when i open .avi using mplayer. if i open the same remote file with kmplayer, it will player immediately instead of making local copy first. however, kmplayer is very slow and sounds and video stream breaking up, (i am sorry i do not know right english expression for this) i suppose this is not related to mplayer configuration. this seems to be dolphin problem. can i make dolphin to stop copying samba share to local disk and play instantly? there is a video in videos. it is comparing how dolphin and nautilus act differently when i play remote samba share movies.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am writing this from my new MozillaFirefox browser, operational for 3 minutes.I started researching Linux Dec 27th, bot a couple of books, bookmarked about 20 sites c/w howto', FAQ's, LinuxBook, etc., printed about 250 text files (exhausted my lazer printer), downloaded/burnt DVD's for Slackware 13.1, Mandriva 10.1, utorrent (x windows so I could download it all), Easus Partition Manager and am finally here.
I couldn't get Slack to boot, nor could I get Mandriva to go either it has taken me 1+ month to get here. Finally gave up on booting from a usb and external hdd (thanks to a pair of SATA you know whats!)Yesterday, I repartioned my C drive (ooops, sda) and loaded up Mandriva...couldnt get it to function either. Tonight, went through the driver install program available with the load disc and read (& wrote down) the driver "failure" output. Reloaded the DVD, chose upgrade vs install, got to the hardware configuration screen and played with my video and sound settings, and voila

I used locate cmd to search file abc.txt (for example) as I didn't know in which directory it would be present and couldn't find it. But when I did find . -name abc.txt, it traced the file, luckily the file was in the same directory. I am wondering how find was able to search abc.txt and locate not. How these two are behavinb differently? Usually I use locate when I don't know the path to the parent dir.

I just want to upgrade my Slackware 13.1 kernel (2.6.33.4) to the latest stable kernel from kernel.org (2.6.38.2). I have never done anything like this and I am a Linux newbie, so I would appreciate a "Kernel Patching for Dummies" version if possible. I did do a search on this forum and most of what I read was over my head. I found an FAQ on kernelnewbies.org on "How To Apply A Patch" but when I attempted what they suggested, it said it couldn't find the file to patch at line 5 and asked me which file to patch. Ever since I started using KDE as in 4.2, I have been doing this regularly. When I startup KDE, I open Dolphin and click and mount each partition with root pass. I thought it might be some KDE issue as is the ever developing code and will be fine in future updates. But now I'm in 4.2.1 and it still exists. Upon inquiring fellow users on other distros, I have come to believe this is a *Fedora only* issue now.

1. Server with ldap for authentication and autofs maps
2. Client machines have home directories on this server (nfs3) these machines also have some 'shared' directories on the same server (nfs4)
Now if I use a terminal I can always create files in the shared directories (subject to the relevant permissions) - I can also always save files in OO and the like. The problem is that Dophin sometimes has the create greyed out and sometimes it doesn't. So now I am at a loss as to why. This is 11.2 with kde 4.4.3 btw

I really like the buttons to switch from detailed/icon/preview modes, and the show hidden file button is nice. the close button becomes 'split' when only a single pane is open. plus the tab feature is present, but not shown in the image. having a terminal at the bottom is great, others I have tried only seem to have a single command line at most. and the left panel is real convenient for switching between mounts.
I have tried xnc, gnome commander, and tux commander. None of them seem to have the right stuff.
I've been ignoring this problem for about a week but its getting on my last nerve. Dolphin keeps freezing for about 20 seconds when ever I try to move or open files sometimes, It will just sit there and then once it returns it will very quickly execute my command. It seems im not the only one having this issue [url]

I want to search for a file in Dolphin. I select 'Find' and "More Functions" but I columns for filetype, time and rating are not activated. How to have them activated? Online, I come across 'Baloo' service being required. What's that?
