General :: Mount USB - "do Not Have Permissions Necessary To View The Contents Of Usbflash"

Jan 19, 2011

I made USB live and successfully mounted usb. Commands I used are shown below:

sudo fdisk -l
in response to the first command: sdb1 250GB(this is the target)
sudo mkdir /mnt/usbflash
sudo mount -t auto /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usbflash

All done without any problems. However, when I tried to open file /mnt/usbflash, a dialogue jumps out says "do not have permissions neccessary to view the contents of usbflash". I googled it and found out someone solved this with Alt+F2 and type in 'gksu nautilus'. I tried, and it worked!!! However! Not single file of my 200GB files were shown there! How could it be?? I used comman "ls /mnt/usbflash" to check, and it shows correctly the files inside.

General :: Way To View The Contents Of A Berkeley DB File?

Jul 1, 2011

As the topic title states, I would like to know the preferred way of viewing the contents of a Berkeley DB file. The machine the file is on is running SuSE 9.3, with perl 5.8.6 and php 5.2.0 installed. (I'm not sure if stating that was necessary, but my understanding is that the more information I can provide you, the better. The purpose to this question is this: I have been requested to look into coming up with some form of Geocoding software for one of my company's clients. Specifically, I've been requested to look into trying to obtain Census tract/block information.

I discovered the Perl module Geo::Coder::US, which uses Census input (TIGERLine files) to create a Berkeley DB file, then reads said file to produce its own output. However, the output from Geo::Coder::US only provides latitude and longitude information. At the moment, my only interest is in popping the Berkeley DB file generated with the import script packaged with the Geo::Coder::US module. I'm trying to see what the contents of that DB file are, so I can determine if the information I'm after is even in there in the first place.

Ubuntu :: How To View Contents Of Spreadsheet Download

Jun 6, 2011

I'm in an Aussie rules fantasy football competition and someone posted a zip file with relevant stats for players in the under 18 comp, as a guide for selecting possible players in next years team. Never used any of the office applications. I've attached the zip file and this is what the poster said...

In the actual spreadsheet though, there are two sheets. The first is all the raw data which you can order by position (based on me watching the games, and the line-ups listed on the AFL websites), K: H ratio, state etc. The second is a sheet which you can use to compare players.

I find that sometimes it is easier for me to make decisions about which players to pick when the stats are more obvious, so if you are the same, you can use this sheet as well. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the spreadsheet and I'll update it after each round. Fixed, I had to change the file from .zip to .xlsx

Ubuntu :: Grub File Not Found - Try To View The Contents Says Do Not Have The Permissions

Apr 27, 2010

I already had ubuntu 32 bit version 9.10. but due to some tool compatibility reason I need even the 64 bit version 9.10. I dint want to delete 32 bit version so I wanted to install both on my system. I have windows vista as well.

So I booted with 64 bit version of Ubuntu, went on with the installation, until the point were it asks to choose the partition. 32 bit version had 16GB allocated and 10GB free. so I thought I will make new 8GB partition from the 10GB free space. So I selected the partition and clicked on change, and specified 8GB and ext4 format and mount point as "/". I clicked on continue and in a few seconds it popped up with an ERROR message, which I can't remember exactly, but it meant to say that it could not make the changes as the disk to which the changes were made is in use. So I should not use it until I reboot. So I rebooted and now I have grub error : file not found and grub rescue> prompt.

I tried to boot with the 64 bit CD again with the option of trying ubuntu without making any changes and it does show the 16 GB partition, but when I mount that partition I do not see any folders in the partition except for a folder named "lost+found". I try to view the contents of this and it says I do not have the permissions.

I tried GHex for example and it complained that /dev/sda is not a file. The partition is unmountable as NTFS however since it is damaged so I couldn't mount it first. Are there any hex editors out there that would allow me to view the contents directly and copy and paste stuff in there?

Fedora X86/64bit :: Dolphin On KDE 4.2 - Mount Each Partition With Root Pass

Apr 20, 2009

Ever since I started using KDE as in 4.2, I have been doing this regularly. When I startup KDE, I open Dolphin and click and mount each partition with root pass. I thought it might be some KDE issue as is the ever developing code and will be fine in future updates. But now I'm in 4.2.1 and it still exists. Upon inquiring fellow users on other distros, I have come to believe this is a *Fedora only* issue now. [URL].

General :: Can't Mount Usb Disk - It Just Create /dev/sg Device But No /dev/sd

Dec 23, 2010

I have a Corsair R60 ssd disk which is a disk with both sata and usb connectors. But the usb thing seems to be a bit non-standard, or maybe its just my fedora linux. When I insert the disk using a usb cabel to a running Fedora 14 linux system, a device called /dev/sg3 is added but that is all. No new /dev/sd* device is created so I can't mount the disk.

If I look at

cat /proc/scsi/sg/device_strs

I get

ATA Hitachi HTS54321 FB2O
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N RP05
Seagate Desktop 0130
Corsair CSSD-R60GB2

So the disk is there. (The last entry) but my linux will for some reason not see it as a usb hard disk. When I insert other usb disks they work fine. It is only this specific disk which causes problems. I have tried on 3 different computers with the same result.

A hint to the problem may be that if I add the disk to a windows system(With usb) the disk is called "A fixed disk" and not a portable disk as expected. The disk works fine with linux If i connect it with the sata cabel, but I would really like to have it working with usb too. (To mount it on computers without sata).

Added:I did try to mount /dev/sg3 but mount say that its not a block device. (File say Its a character special device).

Added output from dmesg:

[ 97.454073] usb 7-1: USB disconnect, address 2
[ 105.913055] hub 2-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3
[ 107.048054] usb 2-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
[ 107.162900] usb 2-3: New USB device found, idVendor=1b1c, idProduct=1ab8

[code]....

I found an other guy with exactly the same problem [URL] so I think its beginning to look like a bug in the drives firmware or in the linux kernel.

Final update:Corsair have said that the disk design is broken and there does not seem to be any way to make it work.

SUSE / Novell :: How To Mount And Unmount Floppy Within Desktop / Dolphin Filemanager In KDE 4.1?

Feb 23, 2009

Anybody knows how can I mount and unmount a floppy within the desktop and/or dolphin filemanager in KDE 4.1? If I run dolphin I can see a floppy icon on the left, clicking on it seems to activate a reading of the floppy, then I have to go to /media folder and click on /disk folder to display the floppy files, then if a right click on the floppy on dolphin the only option I get is to hide the floppy shortcut, there is no option for unmount the floppy. I tried to make a desktop shortcut to floppy by right clicking on the desktop folder and selecting new device floppy and entering /dev/fd0 on device location, and clicking okay. Even that does not have the unmount command when I right click on the desktop shortcut, so the floppy gets stock in mount state.

also I dont see an applet or the so called plasmanoid when I click on the plasma icon on the right of the task bar and click add widget, on kde 3.5 I have the media applet on the task bar, it worked like a charm, I give a 1000 thanks to the developer of the media applet.

Any ideas on how to mount and unmount my floppy? It is a standard internal floppy, which is connected to the standard floppy controller on the motherboard. The only way to have access to it is logging into kde 3.5 and have the media applet/widget in the taskbar, and then works like a charm, I can mount it or unmount it any time. But I would like to try the new Version 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) "release 72.4" that I'm running. I believe this is the latest from the opensuse 11.1 KDE 4 STABLE repository, so I know I have the latest patches for KDE 4.

General :: Mount - Filesystem Handling For Embedded Device?

Jan 21, 2011

I am developing a device that will run Linux as its operating system. The device is a small form factor X86 device with a flash drive exposed as a SATA-device. So it is not very dissimilar from any other PC running Linux. For several good reasons I am building my own "distribution", instead of using an existing one. What confuses me is how mount/umount of the root file system is handled.I boot my kernel with the commandline "root=/dev/sda1 rw" which works fine. But everytime I do poweroff or reboot Busybox complained about no /etc/fstab, so I decided to build one.Should I have an entry for my root file system? It seems like this is shadowed by the rootfs anyway. I.e. if I have the fstab entry "/dev/sda1 / ext2 1 1" mount still reports rootfs on / type rootfs (rw)/dev/root on / type ext2 (rw,relatime, errors=continue)My questions are:Do I need to worry? Will the drive be correctly unmounted by the kernel on poweroff/reboot?If I want to perform file system checking on boot, can I do that without resorting to an initrd?
