Software :: Dolphin Like Fm In Gnome ?

I have recently become more of a gnome user than a kde user, but I cant find anything like dolphin.
I have circled the key features I am looking for on an image.

I really like the buttons to switch from detailed/icon/preview modes, and the show hidden file button is nice. the close button becomes 'split' when only a single pane is open. plus the tab feature is present, but not shown in the image. having a terminal at the bottom is great, others I have tried only seem to have a single command line at most. and the left panel is real convenient for switching between mounts.
I have tried xnc, gnome commander, and tux commander. None of them seem to have the right stuff.

I am using OpenSUSE 11.3 with GNOME "attached". My problem is that Nautilus has become a burden for me and my simple needs. I often encounter a slow responsiveness (lag) and a slow speed browsing throughout folders/files. I have installed Dolphin and i wish to set it up as my default File Manager.

I'm having a strange problem in my gnome installation. I have about a dozen window managers installed, and just to test the new KDE 4.4 update I used kde for one day (use gnome mostly) and now the gnome places menu opens up the kde file manager dolphin instead of nautilus. How can I change it. It doesn't even appear in the edit menus item on right clicking the menu.

Trying the various settings (and noticing ubuntu gnome users recently had the same exact OPPOSITE problem -- they can't SHOW hidden files in dolphin) to hide my hidden files in dolphin is not working. The settings are saved OK, but those damn (ending in tilde, ie "~") files do NOT ever hide! I even see the correct little green recycling symbol on them, indicating they're identified as such, but no actual hiding goes on..
Nautilus, which I've used before (but have grown tired of, and was looking forward to dolphin), also has a weird issue that seems to have appeared with FC13 (I'd been using FC12 'til now mostly because of this) - there's no way (AFAIK) to tell it to show the location; to see it, you have to click Go->Location each time. Previously I could set it to print out the whole file or server path and it would stay that way when I opened new windows.. This is on fresh install & update.. kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64.

Ever since I started using KDE as in 4.2, I have been doing this regularly. When I startup KDE, I open Dolphin and click and mount each partition with root pass. I thought it might be some KDE issue as is the ever developing code and will be fine in future updates. But now I'm in 4.2.1 and it still exists. Upon inquiring fellow users on other distros, I have come to believe this is a *Fedora only* issue now.

This is the set up
1. Server with ldap for authentication and autofs maps
2. Client machines have home directories on this server (nfs3) these machines also have some 'shared' directories on the same server (nfs4)
Now if I use a terminal I can always create files in the shared directories (subject to the relevant permissions) - I can also always save files in OO and the like. The problem is that Dophin sometimes has the create greyed out and sometimes it doesn't. So now I am at a loss as to why. This is 11.2 with kde 4.4.3 btw

I once used an alternate key as a shortcut of deleting in dolphin. After that, I want to revert to the default key DEL in dolphin so I reset the shortcuts. But I find it doesn't work any more. What's more the shortcut notice following the "Move to Trash" in the right click menu also goes away, i.e. just a blank,shown in attachment. What should I do?

I am having KDE and also gnome desktops. DOlphin file manager was working properly but suddenly now it stopped working in KDE. If I click the icon it just swings near the mouse for some time and nothing comes. Previously immediately after I click it used to come. But in gnome it still opens.

I've been ignoring this problem for about a week but its getting on my last nerve. Dolphin keeps freezing for about 20 seconds when ever I try to move or open files sometimes, It will just sit there and then once it returns it will very quickly execute my command. It seems im not the only one having this issue [url]
I still can't seem to find a fix. I'm running the most recent current BTW

I want to search for a file in Dolphin. I select 'Find' and "More Functions" but I columns for filetype, time and rating are not activated. How to have them activated? Online, I come across 'Baloo' service being required. What's that?

I've recently fallen in love with the speed and great performance of the xfce desktop. The only problem I have is that the default file manager is Thunar.
How can I change it to Dolphin?
The answer seems like it would be easy but I seriously can't figure this out.

I noticed recently that when you put a Audio "red book" cd in the drive and look at it with KDE Dolphin file manager, it shows the CD as a handy tree of folders called "MP3", "Ogg", "FLAC" and so on. So if you copy the FLAC directory to your hard drive, it then uses flac to rip the wav files in the CD to FLAC's on the hard drive. This is all nice but I noticed my Fedora 15 was doing this without the cdparanoia package being installed. I've since installed cdparanoia (which is a software for robustly error correcting and if necessary, multi-try reading from the disk to get a majority vote correct read). Does this mean I can't be assured the FLAC files Dolphin made are bit perfect? I would have assumed that you'd need to use cdparanoia to be sure the wav's get ripped to flac perfectly.

I cannot use preview function in Dolphin to preview JPG files that the size is bigger than 3MB. It is no problem when the photos' size are smaller than 3MB. Do any one got the same problem?

I have just installed suse 11.3 and I have a problem in previewing images. Dolphin does preview the images, but they look corrupted. When I point with the mouse, images are shown perfectly on the information area on the right. I found that as I increase the preview size from the default 64 pixels to the maximum 256 pixels, most of the images are previewed correctly, but will only have 3 images per row

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening. I am able to start Dolphin normally either via keyboard shortcut or application launcher menu.
However if I close or exit out of the application I am then unable to open it again. Instead I get a bouncy icon and and spinning circle in the task bar and then nothing ......
Running a ps aux | grep from the CLI gives me the following processes that must be manually killed before I can reopen Dolphin.

any suggestions? I have tried disabling nepomuk and strigi thinking that might have been an issue but I still get the same problem. I also tried removing dolphinrc and dolphin from ~/.kde4/share/config and ~/.kde4/share/apps respectively... still no bueno.
I am running KDE Trunk repos on 11.3 x86_64

Dolphin crashes when previewing PNG files - with other image files (PS, PDF, JPG, DVI) when you roll the mouse over the file you get a preview pic in the top right corner - when I roll it over a PNG file, it halts for a second then crashes.

I want to ssh in to my server (on lan) using Dolphin, so i open location bar ssh://user@ipadd I then get Term open up ask for password then sayes connected but I dont get a folder view in dolphin, I can do it ok on Ubuntu this way ( using nautilus)

How do I edit a file (config file, etc.) in KWrite (instead of VI) from the bash shell?I can't seem to "see" certain files using Dolphin and the only way I can locate/see them is using the shell but I'm a complete VI newb and would rather use KWrite for the moment.

Since installing upgrades including KDE4.4 and having to reinstall plasma-desktop, when I launch Dolphin file manager via alt-f2 it always crashes. In the status at the bottom is reads...
" The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly. "
When I run Dolphin as my current logged in user there are no issues.

The server kicked me out because Dolphin opens many many connections wile browsing through the servers filesystem with dolphin. i have to wait several minutes to be able to upload files after the limit reached. i am using kubuntu 10.04

I'm a recent user of Dolphin in Kubuntu. I use the split-view mode. I'd like to navigate back and forth between the two main windows with a simple keyboard action such as TAB, i.e. tabbing back and forth as I copy files from one directory to another. How could I set that up? I looked under Dolphin shortcuts but wasn't able to configure this action.

Just yesterday I did a fresh install on my aspire one of ubuntu 11.04. It then installed konqueror and (apperently at the same time dolphin). Now I did allot of googling and now it works to a level that if i press home folder in my unity bar it opens in Dolphin.Nice But the most important thing still doesnt work, that is if I want to save a document from libreoffice or pdf or what ever program it still opens a window of nautilus. I need it to be a window of dolphin because nautilus doesnt understand the networkdirs you can make with dolphin. (makeing a nautilus network dir doesnt work).

I use KDE Dolphin to move pdf file to another folder. When I click on it Dolphin stop responding for a minute. Is there any option to disable or not to preview the file or else? I am annoyed when have to wait so long time just to select a file.

I just added a new drive, formatted it, and everything is ready. except that it does not show up under "places" in dolphin. Removable drives show up almost instantly, and same with all my other useful partitions*, but not this one. I can add a link to the folder it is mounted in, but that is just not the same...
is there something I need to do to fix this?
*(swap are not usable partitions)

i'm used to copy dvdvideo from k3b and it always worked.But I got a dvd that was readable from dolphin (AUDIO and VIDEO folders) but when I tried to copy the dvd from k3b , it could not.I then copied the audio and video file and created an iso and burned it.My problem is that mplayer could play the original dvd but not my copy of the dvd either as the iso or on the dvd itself.
