I changed my ISP recently, post which my LAN is not able to access the internet.I have 6 PCs in my LAN which run on Ubuntu 9.04 and 1 on Ubuntu 9.10 and one more on WindowsXP and these are connected to an Ubuntu 9.04 where the ISP pipe is terminated. The main PC is able to access internet and has IP of 192.168.1.xx series on eth1 on DHCP and eth0 is configured as 192.168.0.2
View 14 RepliesI have a linux box (fedora) with two ethernet cards eth1 and eth2. On eth1 I successfully configured a PPPOE internet connection. Such that from the server I can browse the internet. On eth2 I wired it to a wireless router essentially to provide the wireless cloud. On eth2 I also configured dhcp, such that the Linux box is both PPPOE and DHCP server.However my clients on the LAN cannot access the Internet.
On passing the routing command I get
Destination Gateway Iface
196.44.x.y 0.0.0.0 ppp0
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 eth2 (my subnet)
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 ppp0.
The router (functioning as a wireless access point mainly) has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.2 and eth2 has IP address 192.168.1.1. The dhcp file running on Linux has been set with option router (Gateway) 192.168.1.1. I cannot figure out how to correctly set the routing table such that my clients on wireless can access the internet cloud. I googled and googled but no solid solution. Any suggestions?
I have remote location Linux running (CentOS 6.0). It has dynamic ip address so i installed noip2 service and copied the file cp redhat.noip2.sh /etc/profile.d/noip.sh. After that when the system restarted once, it never have the correct shell. As a result remotely when i try to ssh the server i cant login and i cant do anything.When i debug the ssh i see that debug1: Authentication succeeded (password). and command is also sent but nothing just happen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedPreviously had 2 Ubuntu computers setup Computer A (192.168.1.101) <=> Computer B (192.168.1.100) -> Internet Computer B was the gateway, and it is dual boot, one drive Ubuntu, one drive XP. I'm using XP as the gateway now, but Computer A is extremely slow, virtually nothing getting through.
Have checked sysytem logs, verified /etc/hosts file, and all the network side of things. Can ping either IP adddresses from either computer. On the XP side, have modified hosts and lmhosts, and the XP computer has very fast internet connection.
Did have Commodo firewall running on the XP, disabled that, and checked that no Windooze firewall was running. Have restarted the network on both computers a number of times. Can't figure out what the problem is. It's obviously on the XP side, as when I booted to Ubuntu (previously) on Computer B, the gateway worked just fine. Have checked the whole tcp/ip side of things on XP; seems to be okay.
i have 2 laptops dell d410 whit slackware 13.7 on them .i had some problems with one (one pad) and i have changed some components from one laptop to another : some ram ,wireless, internal modem .now i don't have internet connection from slackware . if i boot slax it's all ok.

I get an access dented when i try to open up the mysql editing page on webmin. Can any of you tell me if there is a way to change it back to hosts=localhost I am using webmin 1.5.30 on Centos 5.5. So this has been going on for weeks now. Usually doesnt happen till friday-saturday. My internet breaks down on slackware, im able to play an online video game, and sometimes if i'm lucky, use pidgin to get on Gchat. However other than that, I cannot access the internet. I've tried multiple browsers, resetting my router, and resetting my modem. It's connected through an ethernet cord, and I am getting an IP from my router.
My first thought was that it was a bandwidth limit, but I'm at my house, on a windows computer typing this right now. I'm not an expert on bandwidth caps so maybe it is this. The weird thing is,I have a laptop running slackware as well. Even over wireless it doesnt work.
I am in a pvt n/w 192.168.0.0/24 and my friend is is another n/w 192.168.1.0/24 . He is in another location. Can I access his machine through vnc over internet ? I have centos 5 and he has suse 10.

I have an acer aspire one notebook (I gather firefox 2 is interwoven on the system?). Anyway, keep pressing firefox icon and it churns over put nothing happens. I found the following advice on another site: (Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to give you as much info for you to help me)
Press Alt+F2 to show the Run program window. Check Run in terminal, leave the input field blank, and click Run to open a terminal. If you're not familiar with the Linux command line just follow the instructions step by step. The easiest way is to simply paste the commands into the terminal with Ctrl+Shift+V. Most of them will only give feedback if an error occurs.
The first command uses wget to download Firefox 3.6 from an official mirror. You can edit the lang variable at the end, in this case en-US, if you'd like another language. All available languages are listed here, just hover over the download link to get the language code from the status bar.

The next step extracts the just downloaded file and modifies a link to point to it. In a few cases a connection refused error message may be triggered by sudo, which is not an error but a bug in sudo and can be safely ignored.
The next step links all plug-ins (not to be confused with extensions) to it.
Launch the profile manager using the command below. Create a new profile, name it anything you like and select it. If you want to keep your bookmarks export them via the bookmark manager first. You can then delete the old default profile.
firefox -profilemanager -no-remote
As a bonus you can also change the icon to the official Firefox icon.
Finally reboot the AA1 to make the desktop aware of the new icon and browser location.
However when I try the above I get the following responses at each point:
I do now have a new icon on the desktop! but still no internet.
I have installed Mint 8 on my HP Presario lap top. When booted up using XP I can connect to the internet wirelessly with no problem. But, when I boot up with Mint 8 I receive a msg that there is no connection to the internet. I then tried by hooking up to the router with a cable and it still shows "not connected to the internet" msg. I tried rebooting while hooked up with the cable and same result.

I want sound and internet access thru Linux using VMware. It will give me confidence to add it as a dual boot to my hard drive. I have sound and internet access thru Windows 7. I have sound thru the sound card test but I'm not able to hear cd's. I see the time elapsing thru the cd player but no sound.

Though, I mainly use Linux for development activities and I don't want to move them to Windows. For this reason I decided to use a Windows guest on VirtualBox for internet access and the Linux host for the other stuffs, but I'd greatly prefer to use Linux for everything (internet too) and Windows only as internet gateway.

My isp is TalkTalk, they do not support linux, and have suggested that i contact the Geek squad who might be able to help me for the princely sum of �30. i think that all that i need is the ip address for my Isp or something equally simple and my problem will be solved. failure to resolve this issue means that i might have to go back to windows.

I have a Centos 5 server working as firewall, dns, proxy (squid) and mail server with postfix. sometimes it blocks ping from the net and when it hapen I cant browse my site not even fetch my email through webmail from outside. But inside every thing still go well even browsing the internet, but no ping to the net (e.g pop.gmail.com). when I restart it everything come up and work fine.

I recently did an upgrade to Windows 7 and now I cannot access the internet on the Windows side, and I cannot find the driver?? In Ubuntu I can only access via wireless not through the ethernet network adapter. The motherboard is abit nf8v. Sorry, more of a Windows question as to Linux.
