OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 - Internet Works But Online Access Test Failed

Oct 1, 2010

At some point, the install process asks whether to test internet access. I replied Yes, and the test failed. Retries also failed, leading me to conclude, mistakenly, that the ethernet card was not supported by SuSE 11.2. Finally I elected to skip the test, resigned to the loss of internet access. The install program then proceeded to access online repositories without difficulty, and I had no further difficulty accessing the internet. So why the misleading test result?

OpenSUSE Network :: Internet Datacard Gets Disconnected After Sometime?

May 21, 2011

If i leave my laptop idle for sometime, my usb datacard connection gets disconnected. I know its a dial-up connection and if no application is accessing internet it disconnects on its own. The problem over here is when i click on the icon and click on activate it won't happen. So, i have to unplug the hardware and then re-insert it to make it work again.I went through a site, there they have mentioned a work around that is to keep a ping command always running. I'm fine with that, but why do we need to remove the hardware n re-insert it to make it connect to the internet again

General :: PPPOE Server Access Internet Clients Fail To Access Internet

Aug 26, 2010

I have a linux box (fedora) with two ethernet cards eth1 and eth2. On eth1 I successfully configured a PPPOE internet connection. Such that from the server I can browse the internet. On eth2 I wired it to a wireless router essentially to provide the wireless cloud. On eth2 I also configured dhcp, such that the Linux box is both PPPOE and DHCP server. However my clients on the LAN cannot access the Internet.

On passing the routing command I get
Destination Gateway Iface
196.44.x.y 0.0.0.0 ppp0
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 eth2 (my subnet)
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 ppp0.

The router (functioning as a wireless access point mainly) has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.2 and eth2 has IP address 192.168.1.1. The dhcp file running on Linux has been set with option router (Gateway) 192.168.1.1. I cannot figure out how to correctly set the routing table such that my clients on wireless can access the internet cloud. I googled and googled but no solid solution. Any suggestions?

Fedora Networking :: Sendmail Doesn't Send Email For Several Days In Spite Of Being Online?

Apr 27, 2011

I have the following problem with sendmail on F14 (had the same on F13 already):

I have a network setup using bridging which is controlled through traditional ifup/ifdown (because NetworkManager can't handle bridging). My sendmail configuration differs from the Fedora default only by having a SMART_HOST relay. The queueing interval in /etc/sysconfig/sendmail is the default (1h).

When my network connection is up, sendmail normally sends email through the relay immediately. Sometimes I have to interrupt the connection for a few minutes. When my network connection is down, sendmail starts queueing email (OK this far). When the network connection comes back up, I'd expect sendmail to restart sending mail through the relay again. But sometimes, that doesn't happen. Instead, sendmail keeps queueing my mail infinitely (I have seen it happen for several days) until I finally notice that my email isn't received, and run sendmail -q by hand (by that time, my boss is already angry that I'm not responding to his email). In that state, even new mail is queued rather than forwarded by sendmail. It appears that the only way to stop that behavior is to restart the sendmail service.

OpenSUSE Network :: Wireless AP Configuration - Doesn't Have Internet Access

Aug 7, 2011

I'm trying to setup a wireless AP with my old asus eeepc, so it can act as a repeater to connect my android device on the other end of the apartment. I've already created the Wireless Access Point using hostapd. It took very little configuring, just changed from mode 'a' to 'g' and changed the channel from 60 to 1 and It was all set. Next I setup a dhcp server. Also simple enough using yast.

Up to this point, I was able to connect my android device to the newly created wireless network. However It doesn't have internet access. I guess I have to configure iptables for this, but I find it incredibly confusing! Here are a few specs to help with any examples: The laptop is connected to the internet through eth0 with IP 192.168.2.120 Hostapd is using wlan0, and I'm pretty sure it created mon.wlan0 So, to sum up, when I connect my android device to the network I can, for instance, see what ever pages apache is currently serving on the laptop, but can't access the internet.

General :: Cannot Access The Internet On Newly Installed Fedora

Sep 8, 2010

I have just installed fedora 13 onto my old PC. Everything is great apart from the fact that i cannot access the internet. My isp is TalkTalk, they do not support linux, and have suggested that i contact the Geek squad who might be able to help me for the princely sum of 30. i think that all that i need is the ip address for my Isp or something equally simple and my problem will be solved. failure to resolve this issue means that i might have to go back to windows.

The machinery that i have is an emachines 3210, 2.70 GHz, a Dlink wireless router, i am using a cat 5 cable plugged directly into the back of the pc, i am using fedora 13. ps my son is using windows and is connected to the internet still via WiFi.

General :: Update Standard Fedora Library Package Without Internet Access?

Apr 26, 2010

I need to get the libstdc++.so.5 library ( on a computer with Fedora 8 and don't wonder why it's so ancient,-there is a good reason for it) but I don't have Internet access from that computer, so I can't get to the online repo's.

However, I do still have the installation disk, and I'm typing this from a computer (SuSE 10) that is half a meter from the Fedora box.

I tried the "ADD/REMOVE Software" option on the menu, but it keeps on looking for the online repo and then if it doesn't get it, it fails.

Is it possible to get this library from the installation disk. How? Could I download the single package from the online repo onto the SuSE machine and then move it to the Fedora machine? How do I then tell the Fedora machine to "incorporate" it.

I got these three values in my firefox Selenium script that runs perfectly time after time. My big picture goal, is to be able, on a crontab, to dump my account activity every night at midnight. I am not married to this idea if anyone has a better or different route.

Red Hat / Fedora :: 10 Duplicate IP No Internet Access

Sep 14, 2010

I had a duplicate IP from another device on the network that would jut not let it go and was the same IP as my Fedora box that was working fine. After screwing around with the other device I finally just gave up and changed the IP on the Fedora box. Now I can't access the internet at all from the Fedora box. I looked in my routing tables in my router and the mac was showing as the mac of the other device. After some reboots here and there that is fix and the routers routing tables are now showing correctly. The Fedora box still can not resolve any domains or get online. Is there something somewhere inside the Fedora box that is still jacked up from the duplicate IP?

Fedora Networking :: Can't Access Internet With Web Addresses ?

Jul 7, 2010

I installed Fedora 13 on my laptop today after deleting a badly screwed up Windows XP partition. Everything installed smoothly even my Broadcom drivers but I can't seem to figure out how to get Firefox to access the web with a URL.

I can ping Google, and can get to it in Firefox if I use the IP address from the ping, but going to [url] in Firefox will give me an error message about not being able to find the server at the web address. I was also able to update from the terminal with yum update just fine. I've tried searching Google for some answers, and maybe I just can't phrase my query right, but I found nothing that I could use to try and fix my problem.

I've attached a HardInfo report which I hope could be useful if you need to know what my hardware is (an HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop).
