I have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.

But the VMWare web access page where we can login to console and create virtual machines doesn't require internet access.I am a newbie to linux and also network issues. How to figure out what is the problem? Are there any step by step guide to investigate this issue? All the pages I open get stuck with "waiting for abc.com" etc.It never opens.Javascript is enabled for this browser.

Is it possible to upgrade a Slackware installation from a freshly d-loaded DVD? How would one go about this? Would the procedures in the Upgrade.txt work? I would assume they would need to be modified a bit, though, since I'm only upgrading the same version of Slackware. I'm not going from say 13.1 to 13.37. I just want to update a 13.37 current that I installed about three weeks ago to the now final release 13.37. If I could get my silly Trendnet TEW 423IP wireless PCI card to work in Slack, I could upgrade the normal way with Slackpkg.

I'm a Linux newbie. Used to use Ubuntu, but I switched to Slackware because I want to learn how Linux works better.
On my Samsung qx410 laptop, I can't connect to the internet. I went to the System Settings -> Network Settings and all the tabs there, but it wouldn't detect any connection, wireless nor wired.
I noticed that the kernel of Slackware 13.1 is out of date, so I tried compiling a newer one, but I couldn't get that to work.
I tried downloading this file: iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1.tgz but even after reading the readme, I had no clue how to go about installing it or even whether it was the right thing to install in the first place.
How can I get my internet working?

I'm having a really odd problem with my workspace switcher. First off, I keep 5 workspaces all in one row.
My problems: When I use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + Alt + Left or Ctrl + Alt + Right I can switch workspaces just fine, however I have a xbindkeys install set up to detect specific keypresses from my Logitech MX Revolution and spit out those very shortcuts, and they aren't working. When using the keyboard shortcuts to switch workspaces there's a new look to the visual aid that pops up in the middle of the screen. It's much boxier and ugly looking, and I'd like to get it back to the way it was before, with the larger boxes with rounded edges and no text. This started last night when I plugged my laptop into my Panasonic HDTV via S-Video. Can anyone tell me how to uninstall the workspace switcher component and reinstall it? I'm fairly new to Ubuntu and just want the default settings back. I'm running 10.04 btw.

I am using hostapd, wireless tools with madwifi for my wireless ap in my board. The WEP, WPA-PSK connections and communications between my board with linux and my desktop PC, Windows XP SP2 (with Olitec USB wireless) are fine. But when I configured the WPA type, the connection seems established but shows the status "TKIP - Key Absent" in the security dialog box. Anyone faced this problem? Am attaching the conf files and the connection status. In the AP side am complaining . I am using the in built radius server conf with the hostapd 0.4.7

just be aware of this in 13.0 and previous, assigned user numbers begin at 500 by default. in 13.37, they begin at 1000. this is especially important if you have a separate drive or partition mounted as /home and you want to keep your /home data under the same user name while migrating to 13.37 (and like me are keeping a dual boot while making the transition).

Previously had 2 Ubuntu computers setup Computer A (192.168.1.101) <=> Computer B (192.168.1.100) -> Internet Computer B was the gateway, and it is dual boot, one drive Ubuntu, one drive XP. I'm using XP as the gateway now, but Computer A is extremely slow, virtually nothing getting through.
Have checked sysytem logs, verified /etc/hosts file, and all the network side of things. Can ping either IP adddresses from either computer. On the XP side, have modified hosts and lmhosts, and the XP computer has very fast internet connection.
Did have Commodo firewall running on the XP, disabled that, and checked that no Windooze firewall was running. Have restarted the network on both computers a number of times. Can't figure out what the problem is. It's obviously on the XP side, as when I booted to Ubuntu (previously) on Computer B, the gateway worked just fine. Have checked the whole tcp/ip side of things on XP; seems to be okay.

The router IP is 192.168.1.1. 1 windows laptop that work wireless and wired. 1 debian desktop that work wired and not working wireless. THe problem with the debian desktop is like this: I have a TP-Link TL-WN321G installed and found by lsusb command. I make a wireless connection WPA Personal (just like the router settings) it says i am connected to the wl network but no internet connection. the route command give me this:

I tryed with wicd who said that the connection is WEP (and it's not, it is setup to WPA on the router and the network-manager conncetion) and when i try to connect i get bad password. I tryed with network-manager uninstalled and no chance.

It is most certainly my fault but I am now without a sound volume control and it does not show up in the add to panel. What can I do here? Does your icon have code that that I can use or can I find the file somewhere and create a link? Alsa mixer works ok and nothing is muted and I have sound so as to play music. The Internet connection and the power connection icons also don't appear.

OpenSuse 11.4 Asus Netbook 1000H Following other members in the forums I have installed Opensuse 11.4 on the Netbook. In the early days Ubuntu Netbook Remix worked well for me. But this has been discarded, and the "one size fits all" Ubuntu had become slow and cumbersome. So..... onto my post. Opensuse is working well. The install went beautifully.
It detected the Wireless Internet and I am able to get on line. I also need to share the Internet connection to a desktop. This is done via a small network switch. Thus far I cannot do this. I tried to use ifup to configure a static ip but this busted my Wireless configuration. I went back to knetwork manager. Then I tried to set up the wired network using knetwork manager and under IPV4 "share" the connection. But this blanks out any possiblity of a static address and substitutes dhcp. My desktop cannot ping the this dhcp address. Ubuntu had this thing called Firestarter? - from memory. This configured the system to sharing the network.
