I have a Centos 5 server working as firewall, dns, proxy (squid) and mail server with postfix. sometimes it blocks ping from the net and when it hapen I cant browse my site not even fetch my email through webmail from outside. But inside every thing still go well even browsing the internet, but no ping to the net (e.g pop.gmail.com). when I restart it everything come up and work fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirewall disabled.Static IP addys given to each laptop, but makes no diff when dhcp derived IP addys.using wlan Cannot ping either laptop from a windows box, bit windows box pings other computers.Can access internet from either laptop and Samba works too.I can ping one laptop if I plug the LAN wire into it. In fact I can ping either the wlan IP addy or the LAN addy this way. WHen I remove the Lan wire I can still ping the wlan on the laptop, but restarting screws it all up again.I see that iptables and other files change when I plug the LAN cvable in and then remove it again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario R3000 with Ubuntu 9.10 32 bit that I just installed last night. I'm using a Zyxel G-102 Wireless card and Actiontec GT701WG wireless modem.
When I try to connect to the 'net, the network does show up and it connects strong (100%). It also shows multiple neighbors networks. It pings at 99% success (with over 900 sent as I write this) but when I open Firefox it can't connect, it just times out. I've used WEP security and have switched off security as well. I tried hooking up to the modem via USB and get the same result. It acts like a Firewall issue but there isn't one installed - at least that I can find and the Firewall in the modem is off. I ran FF in root with gksu firefox as suggested in another thread. I tried www.ubuntu.com and the header loaded but that was all. Then it timed out.
I'm new to Linux but have used Puppy Linux with this machine and card, etc. so I know it can/does work with Linux. I wanted a more refined distro and chose Ubuntu.
I just downloaded and installed the latest Cent OS 5. I disabled SE linux, turned off the firewall, and selected the Server package options when installing. I plan on using this as a router/firewall between my internal network and the internet, as well as web server, etc. The first thing I did was to configure the two NICs, internal one with 192.168.7.1 address and the other with an address from my ISP (I have a static address, but I also tried to let the DSL router assign an address via DHCP). Everything looked fine, I checked /etc/resolv.conf and my routes. I was able to ping the DSL router from the server, but I was not able to do a ping or lookup on anything outside my network. I tried host, dig, nslookup, etc, no luck. Obviously then, I was not able to browse the net with firefox.

I can't even ping the dafault router of 2.6.26 kernel when I am at 2.6.36. Also, system/administration/network does not show any connections while it shows something at the other kernel.

So I went do realteak downloaded latest available drivers that seems to be were release yesterday did same command and same error So I made only make and it went fine did then make clean modules and went fine so made make install, depmod -a and modprobe r8169 verify int was up and getting correct ip from router but I'm not able to access the internet or ping any IP address

I have a linux box (fedora) with two ethernet cards eth1 and eth2. On eth1 I successfully configured a PPPOE internet connection. Such that from the server I can browse the internet. On eth2 I wired it to a wireless router essentially to provide the wireless cloud. On eth2 I also configured dhcp, such that the Linux box is both PPPOE and DHCP server.However my clients on the LAN cannot access the Internet.
On passing the routing command I get
Destination Gateway Iface
196.44.x.y 0.0.0.0 ppp0
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 eth2 (my subnet)
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 ppp0.
The router (functioning as a wireless access point mainly) has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.2 and eth2 has IP address 192.168.1.1. The dhcp file running on Linux has been set with option router (Gateway) 192.168.1.1. I cannot figure out how to correctly set the routing table such that my clients on wireless can access the internet cloud. I googled and googled but no solid solution. Any suggestions?
I have a problem accessing my site.
My Gateway, is using Ubuntu.
From ssh command, I can't ping it (and can't access it).
But, when I ssh to my client's gateway (different ISP), I can ping it (and can access it).
My admin says that it's the DNS problem in my Gateway but when I change the DNS on my computer, still the problem exists.
I cannot access/ping my Debian server. I know the IP is right (ifconfig, route and ip addr) all gave me 10.0.2.25 (route gave me 10.0.2.0).I cannot ping it from any computer in my netwerk, even when I try to ping it from my Debian itself, it gives me Destination Host Unreachable !(Wierdly, I can ping 10.0.2.2 tho).I am using virtualbox when the netwerk options 'NAT' turned on. When I look at my /etc/network/interfaces/ the last line looks like:iface eth0 inet dhcpShouldn't their be some other stuff listed?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just switched ISPs from a local vendor to Wild Blue. All my Windows boxes adopted automatically. My Ubuntu 10.10 workstation can find no sites, period. My old resolv.conf said:

domain sdc.org (<- my old local ISP)
search sdc.org (<- my old local ISP)
nameserver 192.168.0.1 (<- correct IP V4 address for my router's front end)
This has not changed, and I guess my IP stack is searching for sdc.org domain addresses on WildBlue.net, which don't exist there. After many hours trying to speak with WildBlue Tech Support people, I've decided that domain search questions are beyond their ability to comprehend or discuss. If I could ascertain the domain(s) to search I'd just edit the silly file.
Has anyone else connected with Ubuntu 10.10 on WildBlue?
Everytime I use Transmission for torrent download, even if I only have a single torrent, my firefox is unable to access the internet. I assume this cannot be a bandwidth problem, so what is it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of SuSE 11.2. I have installed Communigate Pro (Email server) and Webmin. From my workstation (on the same LAN), I can access the web interfaces for both CGP and Webmin right after the server boots up. But after about 10 minutes or so, I can no longer access either web interface. The server itself still functions normally. I can get on the internet with the server, and I can control Webmin via localhost:10000.
The only thing that allows me to connect to it from my workstation again is to either restart the server, or go into "Network > Linux Firewall" and click "Apply Configuration". What's going on that makes my remote access stop working?
I am using an virtual machine. where I need to ping from one machine to another. earlier I was able to ping. But after going to google.com once, I cannot ping back to this machine.
But if I gave ping -I eth1 <IP> then I can ping.

I changed my ISP recently, post which my LAN is not able to access the internet.I have 6 PCs in my LAN which run on Ubuntu 9.04 and 1 on Ubuntu 9.10 and one more on WindowsXP and these are connected to an Ubuntu 9.04 where the ISP pipe is terminated. The main PC is able to access internet and has IP of 192.168.1.xx series on eth1 on DHCP and eth0 is configured as 192.168.0.2

So this has been going on for weeks now. Usually doesnt happen till friday-saturday. My internet breaks down on slackware, im able to play an online video game, and sometimes if i'm lucky, use pidgin to get on Gchat. However other than that, I cannot access the internet. I've tried multiple browsers, resetting my router, and resetting my modem. It's connected through an ethernet cord, and I am getting an IP from my router.
My first thought was that it was a bandwidth limit, but I'm at my house, on a windows computer typing this right now. I'm not an expert on bandwidth caps so maybe it is this. The weird thing is,I have a laptop running slackware as well. Even over wireless it doesnt work.
I am in a pvt n/w 192.168.0.0/24 and my friend is is another n/w 192.168.1.0/24 . He is in another location. Can I access his machine through vnc over internet ? I have centos 5 and he has suse 10.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using FC10 on my box at work. It is behind an anthenticated proxy for internet connection. In Gnome, I configured the Network Proxy through the GUI, as my browsers too.
So I can browse internet pages, install packages thru Add/Remove Software GUI, but I cant do it in the command line, using yum install, for example. Then trying to figure it out, I saw that it cant reach the package mirrors. It isnt a DNS problem, I set the /etc/resolv.conf correctly, as the host command works correclty. I can ping the local pcs on the network too. Firewall is disabled. Below some simple tests:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have currently installed Slackware 13.1 64bit version on a laptop Acer computer. This computer is connected to my cable service (comcast) modem via a dlink router. This computer has linux and Windows 7 dual boot systems installed. Initially I was able to connect to the internet with either linux or Windows. Now I cannot get on the internet with linux, but I can with windows.
I cannot even ping the address of my internet provider,which I can obtain through windows 7 by running the program ipconfig. When I ping the address, in linux,it gives me the message that "network is unreachable".I can ping it in windows 7.If I run on linux the program ifconfig, it does not even show an ethernet, like it does on my other computer connected to this network.I set the thing up initially with netconfig and used DHCP.As I said, initially it worked.I did not use this computer for some time, and now it has the previously described problems.Where should I start, trying to run this down?I have already done everything I can think of,like powered things off, and reset the cable modem etc.
I am trying to get a Slackware server up and running. I got a static IP working kinda. The computer gets a response when I ping the router but not the internet. Basically it can communicate with other computers on the network but nothing outside of the network. Its not a problem with the router because I have a couple other computer with static IPs. Also the network card works fine as it can get on the internet fine normally.

Trying to access 67.15.245.6 (its a forum site). I can't get to it from home for over a month now. I can't ping it, but I can ping obvious things like google. Tracert isn't working at all. Once it hits the lightspeed.frokca.sbcglobal.net hop it just dies like ATT isn't allowing traceroutes. I've been using Tor as a work around. About 3 months ago I basically had the same issue with openbittorrent.com's site.
I have a linux server and windows XP box. I can't ping the above IP nor tracepath/traceroute to the IP from my linux box.
I have ATT uverse.
EDIT: The site is hometheaterlounge.com (The IP won't do you much and its just the IP of the site host).
