General :: Add Subtitles To Divx File With Option To Turn It On Or Off
Feb 12, 2011
I have a table-top DVD player that can play DVDs and DIVX video files.
BTW, I know how to make Divx files using ffmpeg, mencoder and HandBrakeCLI.
What I don't know how to do is add the subtitles from the DVD to the Divx files. I want the option to turn on and off the subtitles from the divx file. Is this possible?
trying to convert a avi file with subtitles into a iso file ready for burning on to a disc, I am using DeVeDe to convert the file but I keep getting the error SPUMUX when trying to convert. I have no idea on what to do with this, is it because I am trying to convert to ISO? should I just try to convert to MPEG instead would that stop the error?
Whenever I try to play a divx avi file in VLC it starts up, then shuts down again with no warning or error. Is this a bug in the current version. Kaffeine seems to play files OK. Using Fedora 11.
Is there anyway i can convert a dvd to an avi file including subtitles?I watch a lot of burned DVD's, but my dvd player has an usb connection (plays avi's etc) so to spare empty dvd's i decided to buy a large usb stick and put the movies on it. But to do that, i have to convert the dvd's to avi's with subs.
I was looking for a way to totally turn off the Hibernate option in 11.04, and not just remove the option from the menu. I have read that you can easily disable hibernate from System>Preferences>Power Management but as far as i can see I have no options in there to do such.I found this and similar pages: URL... I do not have the key named can_hibernate anywhere under my gnome-power-manager.I read that this is the option that only removes the "hibernate" option from the power menu, but actually does not disable the service, can anyone confirm this?URL...
Just curious but disabling hibernate in linux save you hardisk space like it does in windows (still quite new here)?
Doing this: mplayer dvd://1 -v -dumpstream -dumpfile dump.vob Gives me all the audio tracks, but not the subtitles. How can I go about getting the subtitles to be included in the file dump.vob? I've tried something like: mplayer dvd://1 -v -sid 5 -dumpstream -dumpfile dump.vob (where -sid 5 was the correct subtitle) but this does not work. I'm going to use mencoder to make an .avi file (with subtiutles, obviously), so I could, as a last resort, use some other program that extracts the subtitles (suggestions?).
Ref; Ubuntu 10.04 new clean installation, fully updated. I have set sharing for some folders so they can be seen on my windows network ethernet. However the sharing option is lost when I next turn on the computer. Can I make the sharing permanent?
This has probably been asked before and if it has, I'm sorry, I just don't have time to search for it right now. I have a bunch of times that are in .tar format, and need to be made into .tar.gz. How do I do that? I really don't want to go through and manually compress each and every one, because there's a lot of them!
I just installed ubuntu on my d620.The wireless card seems to exist and looks fine but I don't know how to turn it on.It says the network is disabled everywhere I look but I can't find the option to turn it on.I know this is probably simple. Below is the output from various commands.I included my service tag which you can use on the dell site to find specifics about my hardware.I can't do ifconfig wlan0 up which is the only solution I've found online so far.
In 9.10 I had compiz turned on, and had enabled the widget layer so I could hide the top & bottom panels (pressing F9 displays the widget layer). However I don't see an option to turn on the widget layer in the Compiz settings in 10.01?
I have problem with VLC player. The problem, from the image below, appears whenever I open video file. I click Ok, and a everything is ok, until I jump to another time sequence, when sound and subtitles disappear.
I have Ubuntu 9.04, and a HP laserjet 1018 printer.
I install the printer using:
And when it ask me about plugin I give the path to it. (the 3.9.2 version of the plugin, because Ubuntu 9.04 has the 3.9.2 version of hplip)
well I install the printer, everything works perfectly.....but, when I turn off the PC, and turn it on again, the printer does NOT work!, I send work for being printed but mothing happens , Ubuntu tells me that the job was printed but ... no case, my printer does not print it.
I have to install it again since cero. what can I don to stop install it every time I turn off the computer ?
I'm working on a alias/script that will make it easier to look at my environment via the set command.
On my ubunto when running set it also displays some 10 pages of code pertaining to something called "imagemagik". at the end of the output. This code begins with the { character.
This is annoying if I want to look at my environment when working on scripts. How could I use something like grep, awk, sed, or whatever to ignore everything after the "{" character.
That seems to be the simplest way as long as there are no leading brackets in my environment. (And if you're thinking I should just remove {imagemagik}, I might just do that. But I still would like to know how to do this).
I am trying to make my first tar file in linux. I am trying to make a tar file from a folder (with all subfolders and files) and using several commands I got several errors!
This is the tar usage: tar [-]{txruc}[eONvVwAfblhm{op}][0-7[lmh]] [tapefile] [blocksize] [[-C directory] file] ...
Some of my attempts and responses: tar -czf itic_glb_cognity-06082010.tar.gz itic-glb-cognity/ response: tar: z: unknown option (not using 'z' again!) tar -cf itic-glb-cognity-06082010.tar.gz itic-glb-cognity/ response: tar: cannot stat itic-glb-cognity. Not dumped.
The last ones repeats for all the next attempts: tar -cf itic-glb-cognity-06082010.tar.gz itic-glb-cognity tar -cf iticglbcognity06082010.tar.gz itic-glb-cognity/ (full path + name without spaces) tar -cf iticglbcognity06082010.tar.gz /epos/webbus/bea/user_projects/domains/itic-glb-cognity
For some of the above a 10kb file was created, where the expected file would be about 250MB. I dont think it has anything to do with the user's rights, because I think I have them all.
I recently setup a new server to share files, pics, music, etc. I am also printing to an HP psc1315 attached to the server. The server is running Fedora 10. My main PC runs Fedora 10 as well, the other 2 pc's are running windows (xp and vista). All the shares are working fine on all pc's. I used cupsaddsmb to push the print drivers to the windows pc's and that is working. The problem is: I have to turn on the "cups option=raw" to get my linux pc to print. If I do the windows machines won't print. If I turn it off, my pc (FC10) will not print and windows will. What gives? I did not have windows printing to the old server but I did not have to turn on the raw option to get linux printing working either. It was running Mandriva back then. Attached is my cfg file. I chopped the share def's as I didn't think it relevant.
I downloaded centos from their official bittorrent. It contained two iso files and md5sum.txt,sha1sum.txt and sha256sum.txt and also md5sum.txt.asc,sha1sum.txt.asc and sha256sum.txt.asc.Now when I mount iso file to virtual drive there is no autoplay option. Can you tell me how to install it.I dont see any setup file?
I tried to add a new launcher to a xfce panel on an Ubuntu 9.04. The problem is that I want to create a launcher for a .txt file - and the launcher does not give me the option of choosing "type". I read the following:
I am running Ubuntu 10.4 and I am unable to turn on Personal file sharing. The error I get is that required files are not installed. I need to know how to correct this.
I am wondering if anyone has figured out how to turn off the file locking in openoffice 3.2. I have been searching the net for solutions, trying out the fixes, and as of right now I have not been able to find a way to stop the creation of lock files.
I have tried editing both /usr/bin/soffice and /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice as described in the links (below), but this has not helped.
Here are the relevant links I have found

According to this thread, the method I tried (setting SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING=0) was based on earlier versions of openoffice.org It no longer works because as of openoffice.org 3 the file locking is built into the program.
I've transcoded a number of videos into mp4 which include subtitles. I was using VLC before which did not show these by default but now I want to use Totem.
Totem has the option to turn these off (change subtitles to none from auto) but I cannot find a way to set this globally (and it doesn't remember the setting for each file).
Is there a way to set "never show subtitles by default" globally or is there a way to delete the subtitles from the mp4 file? (They are not rendered on the video; they can be turned off).
Otherwise I may have to start my transcoding from scratch! (Disabling any subtitles).
I have tried to write my files to 2 (2GB each) USB sticks and both turned into a Read-Only-File-System. Then I tried with my Memory Stick Duo and it also turned into that. So I give my last try with my SanDisk HC Memory Card (from photo camera) and resulted the same. I can copy the files of those portable storages into my HDD fine but not write into them or delete any files inside those portable storages.
Ihave some video clips that i would like to use in web pages and Internet forums as animated images. is there a good free program out there that can get the job done. i also noticed that several gif images on the Internet lag like they skipped several frames, i don't want that i want the animation to play smoothly even if it means the file size will be astronomical.
I boought some cartoons for my granddaughter on DVD. I want to put them on my LG PVR HDD/USB which plays Divx (.avi) Purely for storage and ease of access.
I've tried DVD::rip which creates a VOB file and I've tried converting this with Avidemux (qt) but the file it creates, although avi doesn't play - wrong codec? It doesn't recognise the vOB file.
I tried ripping it with Acidrip with the various codecs available, it created avi files but none would play, again PVR reports Wrong codec?
Am I missing something? Any other open source apps that will do it?
