View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a Linux tool that allows me to transcode videos to a video codec that is highly compatible to the Windows platform. We produce large scientific videos from measurements and would like to show those videos during presentations and submit the videos to journals. We want to be as compatible as possible (we can not influence for example the codes installed on the presentation system or on the journal reviewers system).
Virtualdub suggests one of these codecs:
* Radius Cinepak
* Intel Indeo R3.2
* Microsoft Video 1
We tried ffmpeg, mencoder and Virtualdub under wine, none of those tools could produce videos encoded with the aforementioned codecs.
i am very new to linux environment, i want to know that how to download and install the video codec h.264.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've a HP Mini 210 and sometimes it becomes difficult to watch HD Movies. Some videos in 720p I can watch perfectly, while others start crashing after 1 minute..They are mostly in MKV, which from what I understand, it's just a container for the video/audio and can be in several formats. I know that VLC has the Transcode feature, and I'd like to use that to transcode the videos to a video Codec that requires the least CPU processing.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to export a video in openshot video editor and I get this on export error:
The following formats/codecs are missing from your system:
libx264
libmp3lame
You will not be able to use the selected export profile. You will need to install the missing formats/codecs or choose a different export profile. I installed the codecs already.
I tried this command to print the buffer of an existing screen session to stdout but I don't know why it doesn't print anything.
screen -x lftp -X hardcopy /dev/fd/1
screen -x lftp -X hardcopy /dev/stdout
It works if I use a regular file instead, so why doesn't it print to stdout when I use /dev/fd/1? I do this with other applications don't have an option to write to stdout and it works, so what does GNU/Screen do that makes it not work?
I was wondering, what if you had a flash drive formatted with an FS that has UNIX permissions. Then what if you copied some of your files onto it. And then put it into another computer that has a user account by the same name. WIll the user be able to access the files?What if you named your own user differently on the other computer, will you be able to get your files?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a table-top DVD player that can play DVDs and DIVX video files.
BTW, I know how to make Divx files using ffmpeg, mencoder and HandBrakeCLI.
What I don't know how to do is add the subtitles from the DVD to the Divx files. I want the option to turn on and off the subtitles from the divx file. Is this possible?
How the Debian repository secures its keys against malicious access? Obviously, any security lapse would be concerning because it could allow an attacker to gain access to the repository's keys, allowing them to sign trojaned binaries. Are any extra security measures? Are the keys stored in a hardware security module or a keycard, for example?

My problem has to do with the mouse. Basically, only mouse clicks on one window at a time are being handled. If I have Chrome and Thunderbird both open then the mouse will behave normally on Chrome but clicking anywhere on Thunderbird will have no effect. By clicking I mean both left and right mouse button.
To get clicking on Thunderbird to work I have to right-click anywhere on the active window (Chrome in this case), then right-click on the window I want to be active next (Thunderbird). This will allow me to use Thunderbird normally but then Chrome becomes inactive. Typing works even if the window is inactive if the cursor is on the window.
I've found that if I log out and then log back in, the problem disappears. I also tried creating a new user and logging in with that user but the problem still persisted.
I installed the software Ubuntu Tweak yesterday and I was satisfied of how it worked. today, surfing the internet I was hoping to find a solution to a couple of problems that I have: the computer sometimes get stuck when opening videos or photos - I can't see streaming TV. when the internet browser was asking me to install plug-in in order to show the videos I tried to install them but errors occurred.
so I followed the instruction in [URL] (many of these things didn't work and the terminal was showing error messages...) now after rebooting I have got the unity 2D I think (which is fine as I can't notice great differences) but I can't install the updates from Ubuntu Tweak the error message is: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. how can I fix it and get my video codecds?
Can I assume that Audible ( aa files ) cannot be handled by Linux in any way?I have paid and downloaded some audiobooks from Download Audio Books, iPod And Digital Audio Books | Downloadable Online Audio Books | Audible Audiobooks | Audible.com and I cannot find any way to get them on to my ipod.I've tried Wine with Itunes but that doesn't work and one or two other 'windoze' progs to convert to mp3 but non of them work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI two servers set up: 192.168.1.150 and 192.168.1.160 Initially, I want all traffic to be served by server 150. So for this purpose I am leaving the IPTables on .150 empty. At a point in time, I want to forward all incoming traffic to be served by .160 instead. I have accomplished this using these commands (on .150):
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -j DNAT --to 192.168.1.160
iptables -t nat -I POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE
My problem is that if I have an open SSH connection to .150 (prior to adding the rules), the packets are still handled by .150 after adding the rules.. e.g. my SSH session stays active. I want these packets to be forwarded to .160, which would effectively disconnect the SSH session. I do not want the packets flat out dropped, I just want them forwarded on in whatever state they are in. If I try a new SSH session, it is properly forwarded to .160
I've just installed Fedora 12. I Love it. But .. how to install a codec package so I can watch movies? (.avi, Xvid etc.....) for Movie Player (default installed).
I've downloaded a package called "all-20071007.tar.bz2" that suggests it is just what I need.
I created a folder called "codecs" in usr/local/lib/" as su using the terminal as pkg instructions suggested.
When I tried to unpack the package into that new directory I got the reply that I did not have the right permissions.
Has anyone else imstalled this/or better codec packages?
How do I overcome this problem
ps if there's another/better video player, I'd like to know too, so I can try it out also.
installed opensuse 11.3 and i love it but i dont seem to be able to watch and play films/songs and when i try to install the codecs through one klic the warning "could not access installation media [URL] (medium 1) check whether the directory is accessible"

View 2 Replies View RelatedI boought some cartoons for my granddaughter on DVD. I want to put them on my LG PVR HDD/USB which plays Divx (.avi) Purely for storage and ease of access.
I've tried DVD::rip which creates a VOB file and I've tried converting this with Avidemux (qt) but the file it creates, although avi doesn't play - wrong codec? It doesn't recognise the vOB file.
I tried ripping it with Acidrip with the various codecs available, it created avi files but none would play, again PVR reports Wrong codec?
Am I missing something? Any other open source apps that will do it?
I opened Firefox Add-ons and looked at the Plug-ins. Firefox says the DivX Web Player is in need of a security update. How do I update this? I clicked the button but nothing happens.
