View 6 RepliesI cannot play DivX Movies with my Totem-Plugin in Firefox. But it only doesn't work with my User-Account. When I log in as root, it works without a problem. I'm assuming that that the problem lies somewhere in a config file that is different between my user account and my root account. However I'm pretty new to Linux so I don't know where to search.
My System:
OpenSuse 11.4
Firefox 6
Totem Browser-Plugin 2.32 with GStreamer 0.10.32
Cant find a GUI for Divx 6.1.1 I just installed. According to things I have read I must create one but I lack the experience to accomplish this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI boought some cartoons for my granddaughter on DVD. I want to put them on my LG PVR HDD/USB which plays Divx (.avi) Purely for storage and ease of access.
I've tried DVD::rip which creates a VOB file and I've tried converting this with Avidemux (qt) but the file it creates, although avi doesn't play - wrong codec? It doesn't recognise the vOB file.
I tried ripping it with Acidrip with the various codecs available, it created avi files but none would play, again PVR reports Wrong codec?
Am I missing something? Any other open source apps that will do it?
I opened Firefox Add-ons and looked at the Plug-ins. Firefox says the DivX Web Player is in need of a security update. How do I update this? I clicked the button but nothing happens.

I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 beta and it is currently "stock." I would like to watch Divx videos on websites using Firefox.
I've got a couple DVDs in .iso format, and I'd like to convert them to DivX, but I can't see to get anything to load the .iso. I've also tried mounting it and loading it, and it doesn't work.

Divx webplayer in Windows can download and save a divx video file while streaming, so the stream is recorded to the hdd or sth. How can I do this in Ubuntu? In addition to Ubuntu Videoplayer I have installed Gnome Mplayer and VLC Player. Will any of this do the trick? If yes, how exaytly would I proceed?

All my downloaded divxs, using WIndows, can be plaid on my home cinema (with divx-player). But when i download a movie, using Ubuntu, even it is a divx, it will not play on my home cinema.
I think it's not the fault of my divx-player, but maybe it has something to do with Ubuntu?
hate it using windows for downloading some movies.
My home theatre is from Samsung, but that has nothing to do with it, I think.
I have burned dvds with Divx for windows and likes it because they were compatible with most dvd players out there where .AVI is not. I need to find a GUI for Divx 6.1.1 or another application that will burn Divx

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get DivX streams to buffer long enough to watch them. I have installed DivX plugins and tried to use VLC, neither which, allow me to pause the video and allow the buffer to load. On Winblows and Mac, There was a different player that handled DivX streams that allowed for large buffering. I checked the /tmp folder while attempting to watch and the stream is not there. Is there another folder I should see the stream in? Is there a bug with the software, or can you only buffer DivX streams as long as they are running? I have a slow DSL connection and have no other way, other than torrents, to watch movies. And I would much rather wait a few minutes to watch the entire movie, than wait a few hours for the torrent to finish downloading.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there's another way than gecko-mediaplayer to play divx movies on the web. In chromium gecko sometimes freezes, usually when only 10 minutes are left from the movie and that's just freaking annoying, and you can't fast forward or backward also. Though it has some good things too I would like to know if there's an alternative for it in chromium, something like using vlc as in firefox.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a table-top DVD player that can play DVDs and DIVX video files.
BTW, I know how to make Divx files using ffmpeg, mencoder and HandBrakeCLI.

I'm having problems with streaming divx videos in Firefox 3.6 on openSUSE 11.2. Every time I try to load a divx video Firefox ends up freezing, ultimately leading to dialog box giving me the option to terminate Firefox. No matter what plugin I try to use it's the same problem. I've tried mplayerplug-in, which shows a gray background with the Mplayer logo where the video should be but it keeps buffering, once I press play it freezes. I tried the vlc browser plugin which doesn't seem to even recognize anything and I tried gecko-mplayer, which didn't even show the logo and buffering. I tired removing Firefox and all the plugins and tried installing them again to no avail.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've read a bit about pseudo terminal but I still don't get it fully, I've found a really sweet article:
[URL]
I thought the two end tty and pty were acting like a pipe so while testing, I opened two terminals:
terminal1: cat /dev/ptyq9
terminal2: echo "test" > /dev/ttyq9
And it worked, terminal 1 printed: "test". But if the pipe is bi-directionnal ( as terminal were echoed back what user was typing), I was expecting to be able to go the other way around:
terminal1: cat /dev/ttyq9
terminal2: echo "test" > /dev/ptyq9
It does not work ! Echoing on pty just terminates the cat on pty. How is the "return" working them ?
I just installed Gnome Do on Ubuntu 10.04 os. I have a problem that when try to name an mp3, I just get a run action suggestion. When I press tab for more choices, I get 11 of them, like copy, move, run etc, but no option to play! I have the Rythmbow plugin installed , but it still doesn't help... What do I do to be able to play mp3s with Gnome Do?!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know that this has probably been around these forms, but still. I recently stumbled upon one .mkv file and I wasn't able to play it in Ubuntu. I'm still not able. Looking at the forums around I see that many folks are able to play .mkv files with ease just running VLC player. So I'm quite confused that I'm not able to. So far I haven't had any problems with neither audio, nor video files in Ubuntu. Anyway, here's what I use: VLC version 1.0.2
(I saw that some folks have been compiling VLC, incluiding specifically the .mkv support, but that was two years ago. Now VLC should support it out of the box...)
And I should have .mkv support in the version of VLC that I have:
$ vlc --list | grep Matroska
VLC media player 1.0.2 Goldeneye
mkv Matroska-Stream-Demuxer
When I try to open the .mkv vile in VLC nothing happens. No errors, nothing. And off course neither video, nor audio.
I got a virus through thunderbird and had problems even after I removed it. Thus started over. Used CD to reload windows and then reloaded ubuntu using a CD. In ubuntu can not read CD. It doesn't show on desktop. Is there a program to download?
