General :: Scripting - Feed An Input File Into An If Statement Line-by-line
Dec 23, 2009I am trying to write a script that takes an input file ($FileName) and an intermediate file ($FileName.info) and removes lines from $FileName if the value in $2 of $FileName.info is <75.
I can't figure out how to feed only one line of the .info file to the if statement at a time so that it will perceive it as an integer instead of a list.
The error I am getting now is ./script.sh: line 6: [: : integer expression expected

Fedora :: No Input From Front Mic With F12?
Jan 31, 2010The microphone input of the soundcard itself (it is an on-board Realtek card, standard with most Nforce4 boards) works just fine. Recording quality is very good. But when I try to use the mic input on the front of my PC case, pulseaudio receives no signal from the microphone. Skype doesn't work, Audacity can't record anything either.
Everything is wired inside the case just fine, Windows XP has no problems in using the input on the front. Also the Line-out at the same panel on the front works in F12 without problems, it is just the mic input that doesn't work.
Debian :: Alsamixer Has No PCM Option / Solve This?
Aug 17, 2010I can't believe I'm still struggling with this sound problem. But I haven't given up and have no reason to do so. So I been playing around with alsamixer and noticed that everything had a option except the PCM section. See here for pic... So if anyone has any solutions to add to my hunt to fix this.

But now unfortunately I can't find it in Lucid have only 2 audio ports in the laptop: Headphone port, Mic port.

Jun 24, 2010I have a Creative SoundBlaster live SB0490 USB sound card. Alsamixer only shows a mic channel for this card although it has a line in. Is this because it is not supported or how it is meant to be? I have problems with no audio out on a program which directly accesses the card as hw:1 although it is actually using it and wonder if this is all related. Strangely I can play sound through the card using rythmbox.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Duplicate Front Out To Line-in And Side (ALSA)?
Apr 21, 2011I'm using a Realtek alc888 sound chipset (integrated on GA-P965-DS3 mobo) which is capable of 8-channel output (front, side, rear, center/sub). The front-out jack on my mobo is disfunctional and thus can't be used (aweful distortions and such dueo faulty connection), thus it needs to be reassigned to another jack, but simulating a 'front-out' jack. I was able to do this in windows using the Realtek HD Audio application that comes with the drivers (reassigning jacks) and need to do something similar in ubuntu.I've searched through a lot of ALSA documentation, tried to take examples of switching channels using asound.conf and modify them to my needs, but nothing has come of it. As such I've resorted to asking here.Another less important issue is doing something similar but duplicating front-out and mapping it onto the side-out jack, for headphones.

May 1, 2011I was looking for a way to totally turn off the Hibernate option in 11.04, and not just remove the option from the menu. I have read that you can easily disable hibernate from System>Preferences>Power Management but as far as i can see I have no options in there to do such.I found this and similar pages: URL... I do not have the key named can_hibernate anywhere under my gnome-power-manager.I read that this is the option that only removes the "hibernate" option from the power menu, but actually does not disable the service, can anyone confirm this?URL...
Just curious but disabling hibernate in linux save you hardisk space like it does in windows (still quite new here)?

well I install the printer, everything works perfectly.....but, when I turn off the PC, and turn it on again, the printer does NOT work!, I send work for being printed but mothing happens , Ubuntu tells me that the job was printed but ... no case, my printer does not print it.
I have to install it again since cero. what can I don to stop install it every time I turn off the computer ?

Feb 28, 2010I wanted to take an audio feed from a stereo amplifier into my HP Pavilion DV6 laptop, in order to digitally record some old vinyl.
In the Sound Preferences tab, I seemed to be able to record easily from the internal mic, but there seemed to be no easy way to switch the preferences to enable recording from the Line In socket on the laptop.
We tried muting the mic, this only caused the system to record nothing. We also tried all the various available options in "the Hardware Profiles" tab, "Settings for the available device", but no the laptop seemed to be getting no "line in" input with whatever profile we tried.
On Mac, it was as simple as switching the input sound preferences from "internal mic" to "line in".

Jan 31, 2011It has been happening to me since I started to use this laptop from the company for a linux test bed. Several times a day, when I do something from the command line, for example running an application connecting to another host on the internet, etc,it comes to a freeze and does not come out of it. I can not do anything else than a forced reboot from the power button, because the keyboard and the mouse do not respond. This work laptop is a lenovo W500, running on ubuntu jaunty, release 9.04. I have not encountered this problem before with my personal laptop though. My person laptop is a lenovo X61s, running on ubuntu karmic, release 9.10Should I reinstall the work laptop with some other version of ubuntu? Could it be some hardware problem ? What tools should I use to diagnose

How can i edit grub menu from initial grub screen is it possible to it's own 'e' option or 'c' from grub command line?

May 18, 2011I have been searching for an answer through most of the recent posts about sound issues but have not been able to find a solution. I am currently unable to capture sound from the "Line" input on my sound card. I do have sound and is working correctly for all applications and I do have P/A disabled (I'm not a huge fan of the sound quality with P/A enabled). I have checked and re-checked many settings but to no avail have not been able to capture sound. I'm sure I may be missing something or have not done something in order for this to work. I was using openSUSE 11.4 on a different pc and had no problems, unfortunately this is a different pc with a different sound card which is on-board so I am not entirely familiar with it yet.
It is a C-media CMI9880 which shows up as a Intel HDA (ICH6) and appears to be configured correctly.
