Fedora :: Pops Message Saying Can't Find Driver And Disappears

I tried adding two printers.. One remote. So I go into add printer, type its IP address.. comes up blank. no error message, it just waits. I type ipp://192.168.1.77 instead, still the same.. I eventually gave up and added the printer from [URL] Local printer. I plug its USB in. It hums for a while, pops a message saying cannot find driver and disappears. I try manually adding, again it just sits. localhost:631 saves the day again. What gives? The old printer management tool was much better, it actually worked.

I am running Pclinuxos with KDE 4.3.4. I have installed Truecrypt but am having problems using this program when the user is not root. If I try to mount or make an encrypted container a message pops up saying: Administrator privileges required: enter user password or administrator password
When I enter the root password a box then says: Failed to obtain administrator privileges: username is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported
I can't understand why this has happened as I gave the root password. Once I provide the root password, surely I become all powerful and the system should let me do anything? Also to mount a encrypted file in Truecrypt I have to assign full write permissions for users to the /media directory. Is this safe to do?
The only way I have found to use Truecrypt with a non root user account is to go to super user mode terminal, sign in with root password, CD to the truecrypt directory and launch Truecrypt from the terminal. I find this very laborious to do every time.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and GNOME 2.32.0, when the notification message pops up in the top-right corner, my instinct is to mouse-over it and click the "x" to close it. But when I move the cursor over it, the box disappears.

i have a linux machine installed with RedHat 4.7 x64 bit. toady our machine just hanged and the only thing we can do was to do an hard reboot.i saw that when she hanges all her disk looks offline. in /var/log/messages i only saw this error message:

we have 6 disks in RAID 5 in this machine- SAS disks. i've search in the net and looks like the emulex driver told the SCSI to do a reset for some reason. how can i check this issue? machine is online now and everything looks ok but i'm afraid i have a problem perhaps with my disks and this is a production machine so it cant happened again.

I have a LiveCD (DVD with many linux versions on it) and no other software on my computer at the moment. The computer specs are as follow:
When I use the live cd I get the following message: Cannot find root file system
I have tried the suggestion along the lines of:
Then it either goes back to Bash or I get "Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init"
Then my install just freezes there and I need to restart my computer.

I am running F12 on a lenovo X61. 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) If my machine is quiet for a while, then suddenly needs to make a noise (eg some sort of notification event), the audio "pops" when the first sound is made. It sounds like the noise you hear in the speakers when the audio cable is connected to a live jack while the speakers are on. A static POP.
Once that initial pop is over, the audio sounds exactly like I expect it to.Then, if there is no sound for a period of about 10 seconds, I can hear the audio pop again. If I then play a sound, I will hear the initial static pop again.It's as if pulseaudio is powering up my audio system when it needs it, then powers it down when it doesn't need it any more.And, in fact, I found that something is going in in the kernel. If I look at lsmod, I can see things changing.I did an lsmod with the sound "on", then waited for it to pop off, then did it again and noticed these diffs:

Now I also have F12 running on a desktop machine that uses an nVidia chipset. I have no audio pops on that system. I noticed that there are similar changes in lsmod on that system, though.

I have the Package nouveau-0.0.16-6.20100423git13c1043.fc13.x86_64 installed. Max resolution I can have is 800*600, can't seem find a linux driver for nvs on the nvidia site.

I have fedora 11 kde 4.2 installed. Everything up to date. My sound cracks/pops/sparks a lot. I followed some instructions on fedora faq, but that didn't help. what I can check? Also, there is so much to understand about linux sound issues (ie. alsa, pulse, etc...), where can I read about what is what in linux sound?

I have tried both the i386 (worked) and x86 64 dvd iso installations. Both sha1sum results don't match. I got a torrent copy and it's sha1sum doesn't match either.
The problem is with the x86 64 iso dvd. It boots but takes a long time(2-3 minutes)to load ata_piix driver when the title bar says Loading SCSI driver. After it finishes loading that driver, when prompted for the installation method, if I select CD/DVD, I'm prompted to select a driver or install disk for driver. I've tried several different generic ata drivers from the list and end up with a strange memory map interwoven with a multi color(red, white and blue)
copied output as best I can.

I am a new user of Fedora 11. I am a Ubuntu user and could not get my GeForce 9100 on board graphics to work on my new computer with out crashing my computer so I decided I would try fedora. I downloaded the driver from NVidia and I am attempting to install it (Fedora didn't automatically find the driver). I get the following message:
"Error Unable to find the system utility 'ld'; Please make sure you have the 'binutils' installed. If you do have the bin utils installed, then please check that 'ld' is in your PATH."
I am running the driver from $Download as root. I don't know what ld or bin utils is or the check if I have it or if it is in my PATH.

I'm trying to install F10 on an Abit VP-6 mobo with an old Lite-On DVD drivethe install begins, it loads the kernel, it asks for keyboard layout, asks for languagethen it says it can't find the installation media and offers to let me pick from a bunch of drivers that look to be mostly for wireless cards and SATA controllerswhat gives?it had to read the drive to get this farwhat changes part way through the install to cause this?just for grins I tried installing openSuse and had similar resultsthis ring any bells?

Last Saturday, I made a fresh install of 64 bit Fedora 12. Here's my problem:
I can set the desktop background; however, when I switch from one workspace to another, the background disappears from all workspaces! I have six workspaces, and clicking on anyone of them makes the background disappear.
